The full transcript is: *Lawyer:* Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse? *Doctor:* No. *Lawyer:* Did you check for blood pressure? *Doctor:* No. *Lawyer:* Did you check for breathing? *Doctor:* No. *Lawyer:* So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy? *Doctor:* No. *Lawyer:* How can you be so sure, Doctor? *Doctor:* Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar. *Lawyer:* But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless? *Doctor:* Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law somewhere.

On the last story, the cat might need a friend. His behavior is similar to a female cat's maternal urge to hide her "kittens", so maybe an actual kitten (or just a more submissive cat) would keep all of OP's & wife's stuff from being used as kitten surrogates. If the cat is instead pretending to be a dragon, maybe wrestling & stalking another cat would be a preferred way to play!

He was always breaking into food, you couldn't leave any food out, even if you put it in tupperwear he would knock it off of the counter to try to *break* them open (which sometimes worked, sometimes didn't), and when we got a tiny dog Juju (a lhasa apso mix, who can't reach the counters) Simba would knock the food down and then Juju would get it open. One time I found out because Juju casually trotted into the room, looking very proud of himself carrying his tupperwear of food. While we can’t get another cat, our pets do play a lot with each other despite being of different species. He does already have a wrestling buddy, but you’re saying that he needs and actual cat? Op's cousin in story 2 may be the golden child, but I rarely see stories where the golden child has a heart of gold. It's cool that the cousin is actively doing her best to make OP still feel special, like giving her her presents and asking about OPs cake, even going out of her way to spend money to give OP a separate birthday when their family had all the opportunities to do it themselves. Fuck the family, but the brother and cousin. Story 3: ah cats, the racoons of the common pet industry. My 4 month old kitten has recently developed her own kleptomania of stealing napkins and smaller junk from our garbage cans.

The easy is to make it seems like you found what they took. The chaotic things that make you wonder how cats even exist will be in the hard one (see my earlier comment, my cats literally took the bird from an old antique cuckoo clock without us realizing). Not every cat is a thief, and not every thief is a chaos gremlin. I just have three who all steal and the brother/sister like to work together to be chaotic.

About the 2nd story. So the parents, uncle/aunt and grandma ("abuela" means "grandma" in Spanish, meaning that OP certainly grew up in a hispanic family) are explaining that they don't have enough money to buy an Oreo cake, once in a year? It's too hard for the parents to save at least 100$ on a whole year to buy a cake and a present for their daughter, while they have to ensure the maintenance of 2 BMW each year? Ok, they surely wanted to compete in the worst parents race here. Even OP's brother and cousin have more caring and parenting skills than the actual parents and family. And now the mother feels depressed after 4 months without seeing her daughter? So what does OP could say after 15 years of being mistreated like that? Sow the injustice, reap the regrets.

@@TJDious not insane because the legal system protects women and single mothers. That’s why we have so many of them now. When the mothers realize they can’t do it on the own. They turn to their “husband”, the state, to garnish the wages of any random man they can remotely accuse. The onus is on the accused to prove his innocence of being the father. Most don’t find out till they’re being told their wages are being garnished. By then the courts have already declared him as the father. It’s like Sisyphus pushing the boulder uphill.

This is just a theory but I think she wants the money but doesn't want the father to know about their son because of his status of being in prison so she thought she could get around contacting him by getting help from his family. This wild goose chase was to find the grandfather's information to hopefully guilt him into supporting them since his trash son can't. It is extremely flawed thinking but I don't think she truly thought she could sue the grandfather for support because she knows the cousin's name and could have started there if she really wanted to get "grandpa's" info but the fact that she went this convoluted way suggests she doesn't want the "daddy" to know. She wants the cake but doesn't want to get burned while baking it... She shouldn't have done this but I can understand her perspective as a struggling mother who also wants to protect her kid from a potentially dangerous man knowing he exists. That is the extent of grace I'm willing to give because everything else is bonkers...

With so many people living in the US not having big, extended families, cousins are often people you almost never see, maybe just the occasional holiday. Therefore, they are almost strangers or at best, mild acquaintances. However, some cultures it's common to grow up surrounded by cousins and those relationships can be as close as brother/sister. Sure that can lead to sibling squabbles but it can also lead to very tight bonds. I did not grow up in quite that kind of family but did spend quite a bit of time around one cousin and we are TIGHT. I have no siblings but I'm happy to count her as one. From her perspective, I'm probably the spoiled one. My family life wasn't the greatest but it was damn sure better than hers.

Second story, good OP was able to recognize the toxicity of her family and cut them out. Though I think it says a lot about them with how easily she did it besides her bro and cousin. Not to mention her cousin also saw how bad things were and did the same minus OP and her brother considering the golden child garbage the family was doing. I will say I'm worried about OP's brother though. He was most likely going to get similar treatment to the cousin because he's the child that OP's family wanted, but he knows his parents are terrible and backs OP.

Story 2: This is why favourtism destroys family relationships, and I don't understand why families still do this. The cousin and brother are the MVPs for jumping in and siding with OP on the blatant favoritism though, because usually the birthday girl just acts like a brat and sides with the family because she got what she likes, which is rare. Cut them out of your life, you don't need toxic people who doesn't give two f*cks about you.

Okay so for context on the larger story about the Cake story: A Quincenera (I can't really type accents here so bear with me) is basically akin to a Sweet 16 in the US. But in Mexico (which I assume this is given that this is where that kind of celebration largely happens), one of the largest pieces of that culture is that Loyalty to one's family and friends is a heavily important thing. Not in the sense of "oh we have to uphold our family's honor" or anything like that, but the kind that's like anyone will do anything for one's family. It can lead to a bit of gaslighting here and there, however. The fact that they kinda just ignored her for the better part of 15 years like that on BOTH her Quince and 18th birthday? Yeah, she's absolutely right to go no contact with them. And let me tell you, she was being the most patient she possibly could have in this situation. This was extremely bad on that family to treat her in such a way. The only ones in that family who even kept true to that loyalty are her cousin and brother, stars bless 'em. I'm glad that she was able to find peace with herself, and I'm glad that at the very least, the mother will live with this shame for a very long time.

Stuck out a little paw and bonked it against the vase, knocking it to the floor. He started to scurry away, but I swiftly captured him in my hands. I began sternly chastising him. I can only speculate 2 things have happened either she and or her husband lost their jobs and are broke so they were looking to build a relationship with OP to get money from her. OR she actually did feel legitimately bad for what she did to her daughter and the realization that she had been a failure as a mother finally began to sink in and caused her to become depressed. We noticed all the cat toys had started to go missing once, and assumed that one was hiding them, but we weren’t sure where. One day, my roommate dropped his phone down the side of the couch and he was reaching under to grab it. I heard him go “…the fuck?” He found about 20 cat toys, a lollipop (presumably from his kid) and something else small, all shoved under the couch. One of my other cats was having the best day ever with all the ‘new’ toys while the thief sat there sulking. (She likes stealing gloves from his room and bringing them to him. I think it’s revenge. Once, we heard her howling near the basement door and when he went to check, she’d found he left his sock drawer open, went in, stole a rolled up pair of socks and brought it to him. Such a strange cat.)

Story 1: Sadly, this is a reality that men have to face. Never met the woman? Never had relations? Wore a condom and threw it out? Doesn't matter, submit your DNA and prove it, while spending a hefty amount in lawyer's fees and probably missed work. It's frivolous lawsuits designed to get some poor guy who doesn't have the time, money, or ability to fight to take responsibility for a child that isn't his or was fraudulently conceived. I've heard of women taking the used condoms out of the trash and using the fluid to get a bun in the oven. Even age isn't a protection. There was a woman in Cali who forced herself on her son's underage friend, his family has to pay and she had to spend alternate weekends in jail for a while. Meanwhile if you complain about how unfair it is, you're told that your opinion doesn't matter, that you deserve it, or that you should just man up and deal with it because even if it's not yours, the kid needs a father. Btw, what happened to the woman filing the obviously false report? Nothing? Sounds about right. Edit: No, I'm not some sexist who blames all women for these offenses, I'm married and have 3 daughters. Obviously, it'snotall women doing this. I'm simply pointing out that this kind of crap does happen and is rarely fairly adjudicated. While I feel bad that the woman can't find OP's cousin, wouldn't he be listed in whatever prison he's serving in?, it does not justify the invasion of privacy and hassle she put OP through and she should be punished for it. How do we know that she won't just do it again to some random guy to stick him with the bill? She was obviously willing to abuse her position to get OP's info, then file charges that she knew were bunk to begin with.

First story: What that woman did could potentially be illegal, and OP should consider suing not only her but the company as well. Second story: It would rock if OP were to get her family into a family therapy session, where the therapist asks them to each (one by one) explain why they are upset with OP, and then the therapist asks them each (based on what they have each said) about any validity to OP's actions. Like being mad that OP yelled about always being forgotten because her name wasn't on the cake. "Has her name been forgotten before?" "Yes." "So then you would agree that she has a valid reason to be upset, right?" (If they deny forgetting her name before, when OP tells how her name tends to be hastily written on there in a way that doesn't match with the rest of the wording, they'll have to deal with that. Cousin can confirm it if they try to deny it.) Or about a lack of gifts. "Well, what gifts did you all get for (cousin)?" (After several items listed.) "And what did you all get for (OP)?" (crickets chirping) Once they realize that they just proved OP is right by their own words, that's when they might also realize that they should be ashamed of themselves. Third story: Plot twist, wife is the one who did it but decided to plant the evidence to frame the cat. She would have suggested it being the cat after a few more days if he hadn't thought of it himself.

I've bought 5 PACKAGES of 20 rattle mice over the last THREE YEARS because I could never find them. I am a licensed attorney in California. In every state that I have looked at for this issue, a lawyer cannot bring a suit she knows to be frivolous or without merit. Suits also almost never start with a notice of a law suit instead they start with a Demand Letter. Is an attorney does bring a suit without due research, preparation, or fact finding, that would almost certainly be a violation of her ethical responsibilities that could land the attorney in hot water with her state bar. A court case that did started without a demand letter or pre-litigation may not even allowed to move forward at all. In short, OP could potentially end the career of the attorney.

First story: The leaps in logic done people can go through is honestly quite fascinating to see. Second story: Toxic people are like some cancers. You feel so much better once you cut that crap out of your life. Third story: You have a literal cat burglar in your house😂

First story: So this pile of nonsense was overturned, not by the logic of "she's female so not the father", but "she's adopted so your convoluted scheme wouldn't work anyway."?! Dear god. The "so stupid it burns" just set my curtains on fire.

As someone who shares a birthday with an older cousin, I never got my own cake until I moved out. As she needed to be the princess, literally. She wore a new tiara every year and threw a fit of my name was even on the cake.

"Abuela" (Grandma) is obviously a Cluster of Bees, OP's mom is also, and to them the older cousin is the Golden Child while OP is the scapegoat. (Please note "Cluster of Bees" is intended to refer to ONLY abusive people, NOT "all" Cluster B's)

Story 2 legit made me tear up. I can't imagine being treated like that my whole life. I'm glad that OP has a good support system in her cousin and brother I wish them all the best and I hope the NC makes the family reflect on what they have done and hopefully keeps them from making any similar mistakes in the future to anyone else.

The No Cake Story: This is one of the rare cases when the one receiving more than OP sees the unfairness and actually defends OP instead of siding with the family who gave her all the gifts and attention. In situations like this, they usually become spoiled and yell at OP for ruining their birthday. That cousin has a big heart and I'm so glad she and OP's brother continue to have a great relationship with OP. Even though the mother apologized, it doesn't undo what she and the rest of the family (minus the cousin and brother of course) did to OP.

Story 1 : could op countersue the crazy lady for emotional distress?? If she could she should.. Story 2 : NTA.. op in the right to be mad and so is the actually cool cousin.. op birthgiver and "abuella" and ant are big pieces of trash.. Update : yeah op did the right thing and should remain no contact with the trailer trash.. Update 2 : " she looked depressed and lost a lot of weight." yeah because the favorite child ( not really the favorites fault since the cousin is actually cool) hates her.. Story 3 : did op get an evil Garfield to go ??

For the cake story, me and my brother share a birthday, we have NEVER been left out of celebration. We have struggled to make ends meet, but neither was left out a single time when celebrating birthdays. OPs family just doesn’t care about her at all, either because they’re too cheap to do so, or they straight up do not think of her as family.

Last story: One of my cats passed away back in 2020 and was extremely possessive of catnip toys. He would take them and hide them all over the house so that our other cats couldn't find them. It's been over three years since he died, and we are still finding these toys. One of the biggest stashes was in my dresser drawer where he was able to slip in behind the dresser, break through the back piece and hide his toys there. The drawer has been broken for many years so I never used it. When it was finally time to get rid of the dresser, I cleaned it out entirely and was able to break into the broken drawer and found all of my cat's favourite toys. The moment I saw one of his favourite catnip fish toys, something broke and I started laughing and crying at the same time. I will always miss this cat since I raised him from a kitten and he was my favourite boy, but at least now I get to pass on these toys without feeling sad about it. It makes me happy to see my two kittens go crazy over these toys.

She's the father story: Wow! What convoluted thinking. So she never(?) went after support before because up till then she had a good job? Did she ever even think about asking the actual father's parent for help since it was his grandchild? Truthfully, the state (or federal) system he's jailed under would have his DNA on file, it would have been simpler just to sue to get his DNA. Shared birthdays story: I'm very sorry OP. No one should be put thru that by family. It seems your cousin and brother are the only people who've really taken note of what's been done to you all these years. With the update I think your mother FINALLY understands what the family has done to you. Maybe one day you can again have a relationship. Live your best life without the toxic family members. Missing strings story: ALWAYS make sure it's not the cat first!

Let's hit the brakes and use correct wording, here. He doesn't "deserve it" because he has a family he spends time with when he wants to feel better. Just like when you pushed him out for saying something about paternity tests. The true reason is that YOU guys want that. Come on. Stop the gasIighting.

That first lady should counter-sue the other lady for stealing personal and confidential documentation about her from the joint prior employer. Could maybe even throw said employer in there for good measure, just to be sure they're corporate lawyer pins it back on her as well.

Second Story: Give that cousin and OP's brother awards for standing up for OP and sharing birthday gifts with OP. Their families are the absolute worst. They can afford 2 BMWs, private school for OP's brother, and mega birthday parties but for rediculous reasons cannot afford to get OP her own birthday cake when they clearly can afford to get the cousin one? Favortism and entitlement that their finest. I have 2 younger cousins (both of them are brothers BTW) who have their birthdays one day apart and their parents always made sure that they each had their own birthday cakes during their joint birthday parties. Last Story: my sister had a similar issue with one of our cats. He would constantly take her hair ties out of the drawers in our bathroom (yes, he has figured out how to open the drawers and cabinets in our bathroom as well as the laundry hamper in the hall) and play with the ties until the point that they would break. It eventually got to the point that we had to put safety latches on each of the drawers and cabinets (including the laundry hamper) in bathroom and hall that he had gotten into the habit of opening. Now he can only try to open those drawers and cabinets.
