I have been into two different Japanese High Schools before, and even though generally my experience there have been incredible, there are still some sides that is not all "flowers" like the Internet usually described. First, everyone is very friendly indeed, but there is still indeed bullying, although to a lesser extent and without physical abuse. Second, even though they're very friendly, most of them will still keep their distances, especially if you're a foreigner. They will still reply with a smile if you ask them with something, but they will rarely try to continue conversations if you're from a different "group" from them. They prefer to open up, talk, hang out and so on just with their group. There's usually several groups in a class, the popular guys and girls, the hardworking and genius kids, and the so-so normal kids. And then, you'll find the silent people scattered throughout the room. Third, they talk behind your back alot. And sometimes, they even talk about me right in front of me, with Japanese and a small voice. It's like they totally forgot that I can speak their language and I can still hear them, and when they glanced to me I was forced to smile and pretend that I didn't hear their conversation. Even though I don't really mind being talked, I do prefer that they would talk to me directly if I did something wrong, so I could fix it next time. These are only a few of the minus points and there's obviously many more. But of course there still are a lot of good stuffs that only exists in Japanese High schools, and I would say that high school in Japan is generally an amazing experience. I did enjoy my time being there very much.

@@nathanieldante6612 Yeah, I was really lucky to had that chance. My biggest regrets is that I didn't talk more in class, and I couldn't stay there long enough with my friends! I made some really close friends, and somehow I even made a ton on friends with the upper classes (half of the senpais knows/have talked to me. There's one time that the guys on my class were shocked to see me hang out with the popular soccer guys in school, who's my senpai at that time) And also I do still contact my friends once in a while! In case if you went to Japan, all I can say, is that you need to put the effort to get friends. People don't just come and say hi like in animes and stuff. You are the one who needs to be proactive. Try to start conversations, even if it's only greetings. Don't be too pushy though, just be your normal, calm self.
