Ran the Bruggen 10 a number of times. Happy days, young fit and single. Old, knackered and married now.

There was a different colour T-shirt if you ran sub-60 minutes. I missed it by 1 second once. Closest I ever got!

I was thinking of all those married quarters and accommodation blocks in BFG. If the average tour of duty is 3 years that means that every home has had about 20 occupations over a 60 year period. Take into account service men and women and their families that’s one hell of a lot of people who have experienced the BFG experience. If they had as good a time as I did in the late 60’s at JHQ then there are a lot of happy memories out there.

I started my first overseas posting in 1972 with 14sqn phantoms and another later posting at 14sqn jaguars. A great time and great people. Sad to see it now.

Abandoned but that main runway looks in good order . Just like some other abandoned unused airfields in the UK . All them unused houses as well such a waste .

@@kaefermichaifyThere were only a few occasions, where there was governmental training, e. g., for wildfire fighting. Now there are no military or governmental activities anymore, as the whole area has been sold to Verdion recently. They will develop the so called "Javelinpark Elmpt" which will be a mix of an industrial area and regenerative power plants (wind generators and PV). The major part of this 8,5 square kilometres large area will be left for nature. There is no access to the area of the airbase, unless you are a member or a guest of the local golf club, whose golf course is situated on the airbase since decades. In the past, when the RAF was still operating the airbase, only their staff could join the golf club, but now you can become a member also if you are civil German.
