I don’t really have the room to collect much besides books. I have a small eclectic mix of stuff for sure, but it’s books that I feel I can consistently afford. I hit the thrift stores and look for all sorts of different books. Always interesting. You never know what you’re gonna find.

I've been slowly winding down my collecting habits and focusing instead on playing my games. I've actually slimmed down some stuff to have a better curated collection. It was too easy to just put stuff in my collection without any serious thought

Retro gaming is a personal journey, whether it's collecting, selling or buying. It all keeps retro gaming alive! And in turn it keeps our lost loved ones alive in our memories when we play the games we used to play together! So I thank all the retro KZreadrs for keeping it alive😁👍❤️

There are SOOOO many games. I’m still discovering new ones I’ve never heard of before. I have no interest in buying games to sit and never be played. We are noticing our collecting goals have matured a bit so it’s natural some games will go out to come in. The community is what makes everything worth it for us. I take a lot of influence from the KZread community and choose to focus one the positivity.

Personally I don’t mind how anyone collects- I just love that there’s an active community of collectors! Because you’re right, a lot of people don’t have real life friends that share in that passion for the hunt. I love my ‘IRL’ friends, but very few of them understand my appreciation for gaming/collecting like my KZread friends.

I quit a few years ago. My values had changed over the years, and I decided I enjoy having space, more than having stuff. The rise of ODEs and FPGA alternatives made it that much easier to let go. I still have a nice, organized little display of my favorite stuff that I did keep, and I find it much more satisfying that way. All killer, no filler.

I think I'm similar in many ways to you guys as a collector. I'll never stop collecting video games, but I have branched out into collecting laserdiscs as a secondary hobby in addition to the knick knacks to decorate the shelves & walls in my game room. I've always loved movies from the 1980's and collecting those on LD gives me a similar feeling as finding a retro game I don't have and if you know where to look laserdiscs are fairly easy to find at a reasonable price. Plus, that giant artwork looks GREAT on display.

I love collecting laserdiscs (have a few I just bought sitting in front of me as I type), but playing them not so much. I really need to find a way to get better audio and video out of the players since most just have composite.

I still collect video games and go game hunting when I can. It's still fun and always has been. What I've stopped doing is collecting action figures and other little trinkets. Instead of stopping collecting altogether, I've just refined what I collect. I live in Tennessee, so going out and game hunting can be difficult because we don't have that many flea markets around me. I often have to buy games on Ebay, but I'm fine with that. Your channel is a good way for me to see what might be out in the wild, because I just don't see it all that much where I live. So while it may be difficult to collect and hunt, that doesn't discourage me from doing so.

I slowed way down on my collecting years back, it was a number of factors like the local game store closing, leaving only a couple pawn shops with some game selection all at full retail prices. No way to really hunt for games around here other than the thrift stores that never really had anything interesting. Any occasional deals on marketplace, etc. were grabbed immediately by the same people only to be flipped immediately. I also kinda reached a point where I couldn't find much I was interested in picking up in general. This all led me to falling out of interest in collecting and gaming for the most part, after some time I ended up selling off chunks of my collection I wasn't super interested in and not sentimentally attached to. Fast forward to these last few years I've been playing through a lot of games I hadn't before, I was able to finally put my whole collection on display in one spot for the first time and I've been slowly collecting again but only things I'm interested in playing. I just recently got a switch and I've been on a streak getting deals on games and it's brought back that rush of collecting again! Through all these stages though I've watched the show and it's kept me inspired to keep on hunting even when it seems like there's nothing to find. Really appreciate all the content and always having such a positive outlook! Extra fun fact my collecting journey started with VHS, I went to a flea market type thing not owning any and left with a big tub of movies and I've been collecting ever since, whether it be games, movies, RC cars, antiques etc.

I’ve been collecting since the late 80’s. Whenever I’ve downsized its been at a loss. I don’t part things out because I don’t have the time but you bring up a good point, totes full of sealed games that nobody sees, not even me, isn’t good for the hobby. Time to clear out a bunch of stuff. Will I piece it out? Nope. Will I get what it’s “worth” nope. But maybe someone who flips what I downsize and get rid of will sell to someone who will enjoy it. I still collect occasionally when I find a game I like that I hadn’t played but most of my stuff is stuff I played as a kid and that I collect variations of. That stuff I’ve never sold off. Can’t afford to spend thousands a month on it anymore. No more space I’ve accumulated so much. Love your content. In my lifetime if I live long enough the old stuff is going to get really niche and lose a lot of its value. EEPROMs don’t last forever boys.

90's display sounds awesome! Totally agree these things need to see the light of day When I start tucking things into the closet or storage it feels bad to me. So I get rid of the overflow , If I look at the items seriously I can see what I should get rid of or what someone else could enjoy . Collecting is a lot of fun but for me its not a speed thing, if prices are bad Ill just wait or collect whats fun.

I love how you guys are collecting different stuff from years ago because it reminds me of that time when I was a kid. Pick-ups like VHS tapes, Transformers, GIJoe, the Turtles, CDs, cassettes, it's all super cool to me and I love your videos for all of that. I live in Canada, in a rather small city, so garage sales is all we have, and only for about 5 months a year. The fact that you guys have access to swap meets is mind-blowing to me, let alone the fact that they're open all year long! And although all of that helps bring me back to watch every new video, the real glue is how you guys are true friends, you guys are always nice, never disrespecting anyone, just enjoying the ride, and you all feel true and completely genuine. THAT, and all your cool pick-ups, (and Hot Wheel Ricky) is what makes me excited when a new video gets uploaded. Just keep it up, what you guys are doing is wonderful (and I'm a little bit jealous to be honest), don't change, just keep being your real selves. Take care.

I agree with you, to each their own. It is sad to see a division but that can be for anything not just retro gaming. Honestly this channel has brought back memories for me and in a way helped me see what can be found and given new life to.

The Whole Gamer or Collector videos really opened my eyes. I'm working on selling a bunch of my games to buy games I want.. I'm currently obsessed with the PS4. I'm actually packing up a bunch of NES games to send to NES Addict to help his collecting. lol

I find all 3 of you to be honest, respectable, and most important true to your love for those around you. I see alot of youtubers and resellers who are fake and in it for the money, but with you guys I see people enjoying life and not in it for the money.

We have began our KZread channel with the idea of my wife and kids and myself enjoy playing games together and going out and game hunting is something we do for some family time and the thrill of the hunt! But yes retro gaming has had its moments of wow!! Prices are crazy and reselling is at times not fun. But we enjoy it and will keep doing it. Great video dude!

Great way to put it. Collect what you want and don’t judge because you don’t like what someone collects. Be supportive of each other. Collecting is a escape from the real world and all the bad going on. Enjoy collecting.

Agree totally. I've been mainly a Sonic and Sega Master System collector, but where I live it's hard to find the stuff I love so I've tried to keep the spark by changing it up to 80s and 90s stuff I loved as a child.

Every hobby that brings nostalgia has this challenge. I collect, build and show BMX too and it’s a constant battle with negative collectors. Unfortunately some collectors have either forgotten that it should be about happiness or have come into the hobby to make money. Thanks for the video nonetheless, keep the fun alive.

Collecting since I was a kid. Sports cards, video games, 80s toys … now Amiibos and Nintendo signs / cabinets. It’s ever evolving and something I do for fun. Gameswaps and community events have sparked my passion even more. Relationships, people, and fun is what it’s about to me.

This was a very refreshing, a totally down to earth take. People should absolutely respect how other's collect, I mean nobody has the right to tell someone how they should collect an item. Really enjoyed this and appreciate the honesty.

I started collecting because it some how brings me back in time and for some reason that's always something I really would love to do going back to the good old days where your mind says everything was better then as it is now. Which is funny btw because 30 years from now people will probably say the same and they wish that they could go back to 2021/2022. Tomorrow is gonna be as great as yesterday but yesterday is better because we can talk about it. So collecting is just all about the great and awsome memories you captured with your mind and your mind yearns to relive. At least mine does or maybe I'm crazy but I don't care co's collecting makes me feel good and happy. 😃🤙🏽😎

When it comes to any type of personal collecting that should be respected. It's something I always do no matter what of the items or etcs. Along ago I met someone who collects shoes, what a whoa moment. Several of them were in glass case. I remember how I laughed about it, not as a joke, but as there was a frame background of the reason why it was created and how it came alive. My thoughts were very interesting and cool. Another person I met was someone who loves collecting Historic Pins. Another whoa moment and again got a background review. The symbols, sizes, colors, and other information was interesting and cool. So, yeah great video Riff a collector's world should be respected.

Thanks for raising this Riff. I agree 100% that there’s no “right way” to collect (as long as it doesn’t involve B&E 😂). At the same time I can understand someone being confused by a shift where you’ve started talking about flipping or selling items ONLY because, from what I recall you all saying in the past, that you won’t/don’t do that. From that perspective it could go well to have a video where the group of you talk how your thoughts on this has changed, why, etc. That could make for an interesting video and help put to bed any issues raised, even if it’s not what you “normally” do. ‘Cuz if I’m honest, it caught me a little off-guard and I’ve not been watching you guys all that long. So an explanation/group discussion talking about all this might be helpful/good for the community to see more nuance on the topic. But 100%: How someone collects is their business and everyone’s different. Being respectful isn’t too hard if we remember the golden rule and, when it is, to take a step back first before we say things that might harm community.

I agree. I run a video game group in my local county with 6k members. Made it to help myself and others help buy sell trade video games back in 2014. Made lots of new friends. Made lots of deals to help other collectors and gamers get what they want or make money. I built a great community but then their are those resellers who try to cause drama or hate cause how certain rules are needed for groups to run smooth. Respecting peoples stuff. It’s nuts how people get so mad or but hurt over video games. It’s a passion and fun thing for us collectors that we enjoy the thrill of it. Sucks to have those that try to ruin the fun by being so negative or hateful of others joy.
