Instead I’m worrying about so many other things I’d need to type out a half an hour lesson just to describe it Let the artists do their art, ffs. Tools and settings should help the artists do exactly what they imagine, not have the artists help the computer understand what we’re trying to achieve Sorry but it could just be done better. These apps should have all of the best features thought of so far, in one place.

iF you beggining your journey start with blender, it gives you more angles to master, hardsurface sculpting, rendering, riggin, you can grasp all the basics and learn how to combine them, maybe you will land a job that will require you to make props or maybe even some environmental structures at the beginning, meanwhile blender will definitly find solutions for higher polycount and vertex, and at some point you will be ahead of competition a multipurpouse artist able to be flexible to any workflow. and ye you will be the BEAST of new age of modelers that go with the flow of new technologies and possibilities. BUT If you just wanna catch up to old farts that to lazy to learn anymore, stick to that dinosaur zbrush and extintct in the near future with hes crazy creators who dont even know how proper mordern UI should look/work :) cheers

When I went to school for animation years ago, they gave us this student discount for access to Maya. I got Zbrush as a result of that, and was tinkering with it and really loved using it. Then years later I discovered Blender has 3D modeling as well, so I figured "it's free, I should try it out!" Well I hated using it, it didn't feel anywhere near as welcoming to a new person as Zbrush did, and I ditched the fucking thing. So for me it wasn't as simple as "they're the same thing."

There's also the design priorities of an application's developers. Pixo have always been artist focussed in their software's communication: masking and polygroups, real-time sculpting feedback and lighting (matcaps and pixols), the ability to take any parts of the ui you use and slap them around the edges of the viewport. Maya on the other hand has the same issues as Blender: it can be done in Maya, but it'll have more steps and take a bespoke workflow, usually with the help of devs or plugins to make things properly usable (until they buy the plugin).

🤔 this was kind of a stupid video. Blender is like an all-access pass to Disney World, zbrush is like an access pass to a specific disney world park with VIP access and a tour behind the scenes and everything else that you would get that is not included in an all-access pass to the entire part. It's no different than writing programs like final draft which is known to be the industry standard. Or back in the days when Maya was the Industry Program. My recommendation is to work with both of them for the fact that they move back and forth seamlessly seamlessly.

@@AlHowell and that is your right. but i still think it is a stupid video. i don't believe you should stop using one and work on another and many in the comments believe the same. Zbrush is an amazing software, but it focuses on one primary function plus you pay for it. so, a lot of people use blender a free software as an introductory. FYI some of us use these programs as hobbies it's not our life's dream. kind of like i taught myself to play the guitar but have no plan on being in a band. 😉
