Watching Bruce Springsteen lurk behind Al Jarreau, constantly screeching “We Are” is hilarious. I think Al Jarreau got PTSD anticipating that verbal attack.

That's very TRUE, stardom NEVER changed him one bit, if you saw him and recognized him, he'd greet you AND speak to you as if YOU were a 🌟 and he'd known YOU for YEARS, he'd say thank you and God bless you! He was a Pisces (March 12), FULL of LIFE, from Milwaukee, WI, from HUMBLE beginnings, he NEVER FORGOT that, had an ENDLESS number of friends, who had GREAT RESPECT for him! He came up through the ranks, had a Masters in psych, was a teacher, a longtime sideman vocalist for DAMN NEAR everybody, wrote lyrics to Brubecks "Take five" and Coreas "Spain", along with a few other famous jazz songs (The Jarreaus will NEVER be BROKE), LOVED his wife and child, KEPT everyone OUT of his business, made a GANG of💰and just an ALL around DECENT cat! If you just briefly met him, you'd NEVER forget it, he was humorous, quick-witted, well-spoken, he made YOU feel like you're SPECIAL and your LIFE is important ALSO! My favorite AJ album: "All Fly Home", 1978 Warner Bros.🙂👍

Bruce Springsteen sings everything with veins bulging in his neck, face & throat. He sings hard everytime. He sounds like he has an untreated case of strep throat & smoked a pack of Newports. That's what he do! His nickname is "The Boss" not the whisperer. If you're expecting him to do a soft spoken word over a harp, you've got him mixed up with somebody else. He's a legend, you'll recognize his voice as soon as you hear it. Rock on Bruce! ❤️

Bruce was ready wit his part fo sho! 😂😂🤣. He didn’t care what went on before, he was like, HERE IT IS!!! 🤣. Now on another note, as usual blog indulgence critics have no damn idea who or what they’re talking about concerning Al. Who else in that room could sing the music that Al Jarreau had accomplished in his career: Dave Brubeck’s Take Five, Chick Corea’s Spain, Beatles’ She’s Leaving, & Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk, AND improvise in the key, then turn around & sing pop ballads like After All, the Moonlighting theme song, & other radio pop major hits like We’re in This Love Together, or Mornin. Maybe, maybe Jeffrey Osbourne, who didn’t have a solo on this track, but used to sing the whole We Are The World song in his own live concerts & let folks know. So Al was a unique vocal stylist & improviser, who clearly in this moment was not yet hearing how his part was supposed to sound, & understanding which part he was supposed to sing. I give Quincy credit for not passing on him. How Al ended up doing it fit perfectly, & this still predates moving notes around with a computer mouse. One thing I always advised students is that there is absolutely NOTHING normal about performing music in the studio & having it recorded. There are many who feel more comfortable & many who develop a comfort level way of coping. So imagine being in the studio in THIS situation, hearing parts for the 1st time in the midst of this epic compilation of legendary iconic artists. Flippant criticism in this case is just mad ignorant. Educate & reckonize!

Well, it's not really about singing ability, it's knowing your own lines vs someone else's lines and when to come in and when to be silent. But yeah, end result was great, all's well that ends well. I listened to Al many a cold night by the fire with a glass of wine. Think I'll have to pull out the old vinyl and revisit this awesome singer!

ha! the do-too-much of brilliant jazz stylist on a pop record!!!!! ha!!!! love it! so lets be honest. not everybody on this song is/was the best singer or the worst. there is the punk fever of cyndi lauper, the grace a melodic crooning of Diana Ross and Dionne Warwick, the grit of Bruce Springstein and the journey and twang of Willie Nelson. and that is actually what made this song a great one. no need to clown anybody's vocal performance from a producer's standpoint. in the context of a listener, it all boils down to personal taste, not the artist's ability or lack thereof. with a song like this, a producer is orchestrating the character of various voices to give this long af song movement. i think it was a brilliant pairing or assembling of characters. this video is a beautiful testament to the fact hat we don't always get it right the 1st thru 5th times. and that is fine. its the end product that makes magic in the ears and hearts of people. at the end of the day, this song understood the assignment and rose above the expectation. this song did an amazing work throughout the world. as it should have. many people on this song have talents and careers that were unmatched then and now!
