First, you’re both adorable. But also, very enlightening. And now I’m going to go back and fix the borders on my poor wonky quilt. I didn’t even think about what would happen when I give this to someone to long arm…oops.

All good advice, except... The first thing to do is spray it good with spray starch and use a steam iron to move the warp and weft around to lay flat. You are the master of your fabric, so don't just spray it and let it air dry and hope for the best. Take control and use an iron. If it's dry and has plenty of starch, but it's not were you want, spray with water to reactivate the starch and press again. 💖🌞🌵😷 Ps. This mainly works for places that have been stretched out of shape. Use the other techniques for bad piecing (although starching will help somewhat, some bad piecing does need a tuck because there's just too much fabric.)

Wow! This was really helpful info. I haven’t run into this yet, as I’m brand new to longarm quilting. But I foresee the day when I do, bc fabric is by nature a wiggly thing; it’s not finite like a piece of wood. These are good tips to have in my arsenal, bc these kinds of things ALWAYS happen when you’re in a time crunch, and that makes it hard to think straight. Forewarned is forearmed! Thx! 🌷😀

I also couldn’t help wondering: For that bowl shaped center, and wavy borders, if it’s just stretched out, what about very gently soaking the whole thing in cool water to relax the fibers, let it shrink back to its original shape. Then gently spin it, and press it dry? Quilt it after.

That quilt would give me so much anxiety, I don't think I would do it.

I have been putting a EPP hexagon quilt top together, and it has become wonky. Any suggestions on how to make this the correct size and square it up. Thank you

It might be easier to work in some of the extra fullness when you are quilting it. I use a centering tape on my idle pole to keep my sides at the same measurement as I advance. That will help to keep it square.

Fabric fresh off the bolt is flat. I made the mistake of cutting my pieces, and then spray starching after cut. You can watch the fabric draw up. I can see that totally removing some wonkiness. Patience will remove the rest. Keeping an unsquare quilt square….I dont understand why you would want to fight that. Basting an old quilt entirely and floating works for me.

I made a photo quilt for a friend. I spray basted it but couldn’t get it smooth. I didn’t free motion quilt it but it looks like I did. All scrunchy and puffy. Should I leave it or try to quilt it?

Did you do any quilting or just the spray basting? Is is every going to be washed? How big is it? I would probably do some quilting on it.

Would you slow the stitching speed down, and if so, to what?

The speed is just whatever you are comfortable with.
