Quilt in one day #2 - simple quilt-baby quilt-use your scraps-easy to sew
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Sew along with me as I make this simple baby quilt in one day. Use up your scraps and get a quilt ready for the next baby or make it for charity.
I used twenty (20) 6" squares for some cute fabric, yellow sashing (3" x 6") and a variety of blue 3" squares pulled from my 3" scrap drawer.

Thank you Harry ! This saves me a lot of time trying to figure it out ! 😊
Thank you so much for this quilt pattern. I don't use scraps, I use 30" of one fabric for the squares, 36" for the sashing, and 9" for the corners. I've made the quilt more than 40 times for Project Linus and I've loved every quilt I've made using this pattern. Thanks for sharing.
This is so cute! Thanks for sharing. I can’t wait to make one.

great idea. I will try to address that in the future. 🙂
Beth! I am a beginner and I absolutely love your videos! I have watched many in a row at one time! My question: I never see you snip your threads as you grab the next square, as you grab the next piece. My machine has a little thread cutter at the back. But you don’t even seem to bring the material or thread up to have the threads cut. So how do you cut the threads in between each piece that you’re sewing? Thanks for your answer. Also, thank you for sharing all your videos with us! I’m thrilled!

My juki machine ( that I use most frequently) has a thread cutter. My older machines do not… so I do cut threads when using them.
Thankyou for this virtual lesson. Do you have any suggestions for finishing the quilt after the top is done?

quilt diagonally through the squares and add binding. Simple is best. 🙂
Hello Beth, I am so in love with this quilt. Where did you purchase the alphabet fabric?

Sorry...I don’t remember...but I had JUST enough for this little quilt. I think I found it as a remnant or at the thrift store. 🧐
What size is quilt finished? 40 by 50?

it is approx. 42" x 36"
hello again, new to all sewing.doing it by hand first. this will be my very first quilt for a family member due in May. when you cut the pieces, did you allow for seams?I see other videos where they mark the seam allowance on every piece.going to do this by hand.will it shrink in size by much after all the sewing. I ask because I practiced making a patchwork pin cushion by hand and all the squares started out the same size, but when I sewed them together in their rows, some were smaller and my pincushion turned out not symmetrical.

If this is your first quilt don’t be too hard on yourself! The pieces are cut and then after sewing they become 1/2” smaller because of the 1/4” seam in each. If you are hand sewing then marking a 1/4” line might be helpful so that they come out the same. It is amazing when the seam is just a tiny bit bigger or smaller how much it affects the whole thing! A baby quilt is a great place to begin learning.

@@bethshibleyquilts wow!! thank you for the swift reply. I am thinking of assembling it as you did on video.loved watching you! are you showing the binding of the quilt? that is also on my new to do list.well, everything is actually. late bloomer,I'm afraid.whether I think I am vain enough to think my quilt is any good to give to baby is another thing entirely. will show you as I go if you don't mind. Jan.

I look forward to seeing it. I do have an old video with binding . Not great quality but it gives the info you’re looking for , I think.🙂
How much material if you make 3” squares all the same.

I have not figured that out.🙃
When cutting the fabric did you cut 6 1/2 inch & the strips 6 1/2 x 3 1/2?
@bethshibleyquilts

6” and 3”… but you could make yours 6 1/2” and 3 1/2”. They both would work fine

I rarely open seams. I tend to press to one side or the other.

@@bethshibleyquilts thank you for reply. I am planning on doing this quilt. Love it!
I hate to be a bother, but I have quite a few 5" squares, and not so much in the way of scraps. Could you check my math? If I do 5", the the squares would be 2 1/2" and rectangles 2 1/2 ×5", right? So 7 across finishes about 42"? A new great great niece or nephew coming in September! Thanks, Beth for your time!

7 across? 7 - 5” squares? To do the math add all your block sizes up and then subtract 1/2” for every seam. Happy sewing
