The most important thing in this video was: Don't use over heavy bands !!! That is a thing, that makes perfect release very difficult.

Very true my friend i have a bunch of bands that I will be putting in a giveaway some day soon. I did a video a while back comparing my accuracy with .65 precise and .54 gzk and the results blew me away. Later I dropped down to .50 gong chi and it improved again. I wish I would have figured this out a long time ago. It would have saved me lots of money.

@@charlescampbell1319 you could sharpen the taper. And that can give you more speed but less band life. For example I shoot 25-15 often but switched to 25-12 the projectile seemed to travel the same or a little bit faster but failed quicker. So it will take some experimenting but you will eventually find the sweet spot for your style shooting. I went to lighter bands with wider taper because is was still a lighter draw and the width of the bands added some longevity. Currently I shoot 24or 25 to 18 .50 gong chi and it shoots great for me.

New to the hobby. Strangly addicted (recently retired). Great tips. Always felt my release was my weakness. God's speed.

Wow. Your advice on having an "open pouch" and a relaxed hand have lead to the biggest improvement in my accuracy and consistency. I've have only been shooting for 3 weeks, doing at least 100 shots per day, and watching lots and lots of KZread videos, but THIS was by far the most helpful to me. I've just built a catch box similar to your barrel, and I look forward to watching the rest of your videos and spending many more hours with my slingshot. Liked and subscribed!

Excellent video ! I've only been shooting since mid-2023, and really love shooting slingshots... I did archery with my father when I was about 5 years until I was in my mid-20s... got away from it due to other interests and getting married... now retired... been into spring-piston airguns for a couple of decades now, and have a nice 42 foot shooting range in my basement... perfect for setting up a slingshot target, & really enjoying it ! If I were to add a 4th component, it would be breathing, which is really important for everything one does (I'm also a harmonica player). Deep breath through your nose using your diaphragm while drawing the bands, pause, aim, release and slow breath out (nose or mouth). A few practice breaths before starting to shoot always helps too... helps getting you relaxed... good for your blood pressure too ! I really enjoy your channel !

Thanks, man. I like to hold my breath too before my release. Typically my whole shot hold is 3 seconds. Once I extend my arm I hold while aiming. Once I am on target I let it go.

When I was shooting a lot, we used to shoot sticks and stones against the bank. You could see where the shot went. Great help. I would have never have thought of the open pouch. Bad posture you can hear the ball hit the top rail of the fence. Thank you for the tips, Mark. Stay safe and stay cool

You shoot a slingshot like I play golf. If it doesn’t land where you want it to, you have to figure it out. Exactly. So many golfers at the range are just hitting ball after ball. They’re just practicing their bad habits. Getting better at hitting bad shots. And you don’t get ‘another shot’ in the course. I can see part of your physical pre-shot routine. There’s probably something similar going on in your head. Enjoying your clips a lot.

Excellent video. Good solid info there friend. Nice backyard. No snow! Agree on the powerful bands. Seen the same in archery. A lot of people over bow and their form falls apart cause they cannot handle the poundage yet.

Yup me too. The best is to slowly work your way up. For those that are getting into archery I usually reccomend a takedown recurve. You can usually buy different weight limbs to work your way up. Luckily slingshot bands are much cheaper. Lol

glad I found this. I was about to dismiss, believing I have first suggestion already done, but posture and bands weight makes a lot of sense that I've suspected but didn't check thoroughly, like with a camera.

Great video as usual pal. I shoot my bands the other way around, bands making a V right at the pouch. Not too sure if it makes any difference, you should try it out to see if there is any difference. If so maybe do a video on it

Weather the v is on top or bottom I don't thinknit makes a differents. As long as your bands are set up for ott on an ott frame or ttf on a ttf frame. Simple shots bands seem to be set up for ttf frames and I don't like them on ott frames at all. I prefer to tie my own bands for this reason .

@@ATOMark Hi Mark, As a kid (I grew up in Pierrefonds) I shot homemade slingshots, bows and pelletguns, now in my second childhood (I'm retired) I am back to making slingshots, bows and shooting pellet guns 😀 . Don't have any commercial slingshots, I shoot both OTT & TTF slingshots that I make from Buckthorn (my favorite wood), Maple, Elm or Birch. I make some traditional forked slingshots (like the ones I used as a kid) but most are custom carved to suit the shape of my hand. Recently I've started doing some research to get some ideas for different designs and to see how people are making their bands and stuff. I really like that jig to attach the band to the pouch. I'll have to make something similar as I have been doing it the hard way LOL! I'll be watching more of your videos - thanks for posting! Take care!

@@ATOMark I was further west, Rue de Savoie (between Sourcers and Saint John's). At that time (70s), the whole area north of the tracks was bush and fields with lots of small game. It's been 20 years since I visited there, see (by Google maps) that half of my old stomping grounds are all built up with roads and houses. Saw in one of your videos that you throw axes... yeah, axes, knives, atlal, do that to 😀

@Hank Vana2 I like to dabble with axes and knives and bows. I used to shoot a lot as a kid too. Really good times. I should do a get to know ATO video some day. Could be fun to walk down memory lane again.i Know where Savoie is. I went to Riverdale. Later I lived near there too. I guess you spent some time at the train Bridge like most teens did.

What bands do you shoot?

at 4:25 you talk about curving the pouch and not being predictable. i was having a bad time shooting with small framed slingshots and bbs. they were very inconsistent on the vertical plane. even though the anchor point was always the same i had a response from gzk to upper my pouch to lower the shot but i realized that tilting thw pouch can be predictable and very helpfull to know. Now for the slingshot community if you tilt your thumb down the shot wil.go.down if your thumb goes up your shot will also go up. give it a try. that way your anchor point dosent have to change when you change slingshots.

The point of this segment of the video is inconsistencies with your anchor point. If you always shoot speed bumping the ball you will be accurate and consistant. But if one shot you don't and the next shot you do you will have accuracy problems. So the key is being consistant with your movements. Game keeper John is a guy who holds the pouch in front of the ball and he is an excellent shot but he is consistant.

@@ATOMark i agree with what you are saying cosistency is key and everything you mention is correct. all im saying is the tilt of the pouch will raise or lower your shot it dosent neccesarily have to be pinched infront of the ball. and knowing this makes you more.concious on your pouch release. Dont get me wrong, your video is spot on correct.

@@andrewtalamas yes sir agreed. I didn't want to go into all that especially for people starting out. Too much in either direction can cause fork hits. Or if the tweak of the pouch is different each time it can cause problems. For experienced shooters this is a great tool but for someone just starting out it can be chaos. Lol

Lovely stuff, but if i pull straight at the elbow (horizontal) i literally have to turn my hand over and release finger up (upside down to you if you will) cos my arms is too long, but if i tuck my elbow in as you say my release is all over the shop, thanks for the pointers though vicar very useful!

There are many that twist the bands at their anchor point and it works great for them. I do the same when I shoot butterfly. Are you a short draw guy or long draw?

@@ATOMark Short draw mouth anchor mostly but have never been able to straighten my elbow to horizontal my hand just doesn't sit right without being painfully twisted as i have very long arms (36inch draw) so i have taken an upside down release and it seems to be ok thus far i still envy your accuracy!

@@qutube100 ya body mechanics are not universal thats for sure. I don't think it matters where an anchor point is or which way you hold the pouch as long as it leaves your hand without deflection. Keep doing what you are doing if its working brother.

I am not sure. I have tried it but found it distracting and didn't like it. I have seen guys on KZread fold bands and tie them on.

I have my Bow hunting licence but it is illegal to hunt with a slingshot in my province. It is legal to hunt with cattys in Ontario. So I am looking into getting licensed there. It isn't very far to go for me and I think it will make good videos if I can find some land.

That 2 finger hold with the fore finger and the middle finger. I am going to see if it is for me.

A little over 10 meters. 35 feet. I practice regulation distance 10m and 20m although I'm not too good at 20 yet.

I see allot of people on youtube aiming straight to the target, but i noticed that i need to aim a little lower from the target to hit my target, is that a release problem or just a distance thing?
