Genitive case in croatian looks like genitive in spanish, comes to second after word "de", for example "car keys = las llaves del coche". "coche" is the possesor and comes after "del" and "llaves" is the possesion.

Hello Ines! Your videos are simply brilliant. I have learnt a lot through them. One small question. You've given the genitive endings for the singular nouns in the three respective genders. What are the endings for the plural nouns? Thanks a lot!!
@learncroatian9135

At the time I made the video, I didn't want to focus on the plural, to keep it more simple, but people asked about it so I started adding them to other videos... 😅 It's a little hard to write them on here. Hi! In the case of feminine adjectives ending in a consonant, the example that you've given is "mračna" but it ends in a vowel.
@learncroatian9135

Hi! Thank you for your question! The note in the brackets was referring to the nouns and how to tell the grammatical gender of each noun. So, the feminine nouns can either end in - a, which is the most common ending, or a consonant. That's what I was referring to. However, the Genitive adjective has the ending - e (for singular adjectives). The reason why I put the note about the nouns is because the adjective has to match the noun in gender, case and count, but it has different endings sometimes. Does that make sense?

How do you tell the feminine nouns apart from the masculine that don't end with an -a? Is there a rule how you can tell them apart or is it something you just have to learn?
@learncroatian9135
Жыл бұрын
It is something you have to learn. There isn't any particular rule for it, unfortunately. However, there aren't too many of them. Majority of feminine nouns end on -a.

@@learncroatian9135 I can't believe you've replied to me so quickly! I'm mind-blown actually, thank you so much! You're correct, I've googled it in the meantime. Basically, all the nouns that end on -ost are feminine and around a 100 which, as you said, need to be memorized, so it's not that bad. Again, thank You 😌
ok. So how do you say "there is butter on the slice of bread" ? Thank you for the answer.

Maslac je na kriški/krišci (both Dativs are correct) kruha (Genitive).
Can you tell me which is correct: Učim svakog dana or učim svaki dan Thanks.

Certainly! Actually, you can use either one. Both (the genitive and accusative) in this example express an adverb of time and both can be used and both are correct.

@@gerardk51 yes, these languages are quite similar, I think.
Ne bi bilo loše spomenuti naglasak, npr. ŽENE mogu biti gen-singular ili nom-plural, razlikuju se po naglasku. It would not be bad to mention the accent, for example WOMEN can be genitv-singular or nominativ-plural, they differ in accent
So no rules anywhere essentially, just through in any ending to any word and hope for the best. Brilliant .
