Yes, these are probably the most dense, easy to follow and to the point painting lessons on the internet. The best imo. Learnt a lot from from ms Maize, a true teacher and artist.
I think if I watch and listen to enough of your videos, “Value Correct” will finally be absorbed into my brain…I believe this is referred to as the process of osmosis! Thank you, Dianne for continually and consistently informing us just how important value correcting is as one of the basic building blocks of successful painting! 🙏💕

Hi Dianne, thank you so much for clarifying the importance of value correction. I would greatly appreciate if you explained how this technique would work in watercolours, given the same example. I have been exploring transparent watercolours just recently.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction

Veda, with watercolor we mix a bit more water with the darker color and we get the same results. When working with watercolor, water is our white.
Thank you Dianne!

Thankyou Dianne great instruction as always .I use to use a amall palette but my palette now is a 40cm x 40cm piece of glass , its great to have so much more room to mix. I found pre mixing all the colours i think i will need before i start painting such a help , it can be laborious but my paintings have improved a lot and the time in which they take is quicker and the flow more enjoyable.

Once again thanks so much. I have the right knife but wrong mixing technique. I would sort of stir. This will save paints and space. Also the value correct way is so helpful. 😊

Yep! You'll see how easy it is to work with de-saturating.
Hi diane. Unrelated topic. In the winter months over here in Ireland I noticed 1 year a prismatic effect in my kitchen. The sun was coming through the living room window, also through the glass on the door separating the kitchen and living room, and creating a prismatic effect on the door frame and the tiles.These colours are electric, neon like.They blow my mind every time.Have you ever experienced this?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction

Yes, and what you are seeing is what Newton saw when he shot a beam of light through a prism. You're seeing the true relationship of hues! Thanks for sharing that!
If you want to maintain the value of violet, but mute it would you add a near black color to the lighter yellow compliment, then mix with the violet?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
Жыл бұрын
It depends upon the value you want to maintain. I should have mentioned that Rembrandt raw umber is a dark low saturation yellow and can be used to desaturate dark values of violet. If you create a value line of yellow with Rembrandt raw umber, you should find within the value the adjustment you need. There might be other brands of raw umber that will do that, too, but many of them tend to have more red in them. In that cause a bit of green would need to be added to the raw umber to bring it to the saturation you want.
Hi Dianne - Especial thanks for reviewing value correction again. Question when mixing colors, do you always mix light into dark? I see you added the yellow into your viridian green for instance. Thank you and best wishes.
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
Жыл бұрын
No, Lolita. If the value we're aiming for is in the light range, we have more control if we gradually mix dark into light, but if we're aiming for a value in the dark range, it works better to mix light into dark.
Is this oil paint specific or does it apply to all paint mediums? If I’m doing watercolor should I add more water to my purple before mixing it with my yellow?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction

The color principles apply to all mediums. Only the technique is different.
