It would be awesome to be able to paint a bunch of seasonal paintings to accent your home when the seasons change. I want to be able to paint so bad. So far I have painted four paintings Bob Ross style. I am having issues with my paint smearing instead of blending. after applying they layers of paint, he will go back and use a brush to blend the colors and get rid of the brush strokes. When I do that it tends to smear and not in a good way. His layers pretty much stay in place and just blend so nicely. I'm using winsor & Newton paint.

You don't have to be a genius to be an artist, but just like any other field, there are skills that can enhance the quality of your work. There is some essential pieces of information here. If you take one at a time and practice it, you will be surprised at the results, and you will realize that knowing what to look for is essential to any good painting.

@@IntheStudioArtInstruction There just seems there's so much to know it seems overwhelming. But I have been reading a lot and watching tons of videos like yours. Hopefully I will start to get the hang of it. One thing I can't figure out is when I am trying to make little grassy areas with my liner brush, no matter how I dilute the paint my brush just makes a wide groove on top of the paint exposing the paint underneath and the canvas and I promise I am barely touching my canvas. This is the wet on wet technique. I also noticed that whenever I'm trying to blend the color out like say the sun on a sunset it just doesn't do right. I don't know if it's the paint or if it's the brush or if it's because it's wet on wet on top of gesso. I'm going to try to do another sunset painting without the medium on top of the canvas. also I know I'm not putting too much medium on the canvas as I did learn that in a Bob Ross painting class. I don't put much at all I just put a lot film and then I go over it with a paper towel. Thank you for responding to me I like your videos.

Diane thank you! I have learned so much from your excellent teaching these last few months since I found you. I have drawn my whole life and done artistic things, however I had never had instruction in painting until my 40s, from a good friend. I had always wanted to paint, however had no instruction in good technique and consequently already had bad habits (holding the brush like a pencil, working too close to the canvas, etc). You are one of my favorite teachers on KZread. Since covid, I have not worked and now have time to paint and to learn good technique. Because of your teaching and that of a couple of other teachers, my paintings have gone to another level! Thank you so much!

Dianne, I see plenty of videos of how to paint snow covered trees, but how do I paint bare deciduous trees that have ice on them after an ice storm against an early morning sky and bare frozen grass?
@IntheStudioArtInstruction
Жыл бұрын
Observation! What are the edges doing? What are the value variations? Ice reflects light--what is happening value-wise there? There is no how-to for any subject we see, but a matter of observing the value, color, shape, edges, direction, texture, and size, and using technical uses of the brush and paint to create those characteristics.

It illustrates a tiny human in the huge landscape of endless mountains in snow. The man struggle upwards a mountain. The couleurs are a yellowish sky and pinkish snow. As good as possible of course, With shades and shadows, .../It looks like the sun is behind a haze, it might be a thin veil of light snowflakes vibrating in the lightly covered sun. / I think while writing this: - maybe not easy to explain or paint.....?/Grateful if possible to give any advise here and if not, I do understand!/Thank you so much for your videos anyway!
