★About Professor Herp★
I started getting into the reptile hobby in February of 2018. My first reptile was my Bearded Dragon - Maxine Pegasus (creator of duel monsters btw). Since then, I have added five Yellow Ackie Monitors (Asus, Dell, LG, and two unnamed babies), a Chacoan Black and White Tegu (Frappuccino), a Crested Gecko (Destin), and a Russian Tortoise (Tortellini). I also have a dog named Thrall (yes, from World of Warcraft) who is a Dachshund/Chihuahua mix - aka a Chiweenie.
My goal with this channel is to share my knowledge, experience and journey with other reptile/animal enthusiasts and become a better caretaker because of it. Hopefully I can learn a lot from the community through these videos.

My tegu was recieved as baby in 2021 july , he went down same year in october and just came out of brumation thus june 2022 / 8 months@! he grew a bit and last 3 weeks he has been making gains . I live in nyc so it gets cold . I wsa sure to make him stay up bumping up the heat for at least 2 weeks so he gain empty food from gut then let him do his things , another youtuber who has HOBBS tegu sayed his passed and i automatically thought of impaction before i saw his video (was food impaction) thought it was from bedding , I see a lot of people just throw food in tank and they eat bedding , thats a risk easily can be avoided , just feed at separate area . Any who he woke up and is chill as he remembers me possibly . I am daily increasing his meals little . I feed raw unshelled shrimp fruit vegtables meatballs fish etc .

Our girl Kanada, has just transformed into an adult the past year. We live in Wisconsin and she still has not went into burmation. She sleeps from 9pm-3pm every day and eats every 3 days. The problem is, she will not poop in her enclosure. She doesn’t poop unless we let her wander around or give her a bath. Is this normal? I’ve owned an iguana before who was potty trained but am new to tegu behavior. Thanks and great video! Lisa

I’ve been watching different vids on tegu brumation and everybody is saying different things, with this being my first time dealing with a tegu that is brumating

Any other negatives to preventing brumation besides reproduction problems not going to ever breed so

I think the best way to go is let them choose. Not able to really say all the negatives and positives since brumation is not studied enough

Thanks, i think my girl is going down but not 100% sure. Definitely will be watching for more signs, the only things i've noticed so far is her lack of appetite and she is not out most of the day. She is still taking inverts and whole prey every 3 days or so but shows no interest in anything else i offer. She even turned down grapes and blackberries which are her favs so i'm pretty sure shes getting ready to brumate.
