the cobalt SS motor is actually reminiscent of the redline... redline came first

Yeah, the Redline had the LSJ in 2004 and the Cobalt SS had it in 2005.

I rescued one with a dead battery, 2 flat tires and a blown out clutch from this chick I was banging, pumped up the tires and pushed it start into 2nd Gear and drove it around the corner to the shop, ran a stop sign making a right turn right in front of a highway patrol, he must've seen me jerkin it along and just known I had no clutch and took pity on me but he just followed me down the street, I turned into the Firestone shop on the corner and skid to a stop in front of the bays. That cop just rolled on by, he was probably shakin his head laughing at me, but idgaf I'm glad he didn't roll me. Got the clutch fixed and got a battery and 2 new fronts and that car was a beast, the supercharger is so nice, it pulled in any gear. Beat ass little FWD coupe.

They are Dyno'd all day at 214 bwh. De-tuned. And you don't have the Competition Package. Stick in a stage 2 kit, consider some Toluene ( 1 gal per 10 Gal 93 gas) , and your close to a 4.0 second car with wonderful handling capabilities. But ....still your lucky to have one.... they are a collectors item and are far superior to the BRZ and FRS. They are a little beyond the Subie WRX and a unless you have the stage 2, it's a little less than a Subie STi. With a Stage 2....they hang with the Subie Sti's....on regular gas. With the competition package you get a limited slip differential, which will help with the wheel hop on take-off...but not much. With only 2 wheel drive, it is a driver's car...OR it will teach you to become a driver. Or a casualty. Please remember this is a car capable of 150 miles an hour in a split second, and has a lot of torque steer, which requires a heavy hand. The steering is also twitchy because the steering ratio was cut by a third from the regular cars, and driver-induced over-steer is common. Unless you lower them, they tip a bit topheavy rear, and raise weight light an inner wheel on curves. The frame is so stiff you can jack up the front and the rear tire comes off the ground. The suspension of this car was developed from the best parts of the Corvette, and is the secret why it will easily beat a 5.0 GT Mustang around VIR (Virginia International). Yes, The suspension was developed at The Nurbergring. In my opinion, this is one of the cheapest and most fun cars to drive for a guy or gal that likes to drive. In a non-modified form it is a fast car with great handling, perfect pedal placement, and a sheer joy to drive in a spirited manner. In a 2, or 3 stage modification, with wheel horsepower above an Sti, and this car can become a killer if you don't lower the back end a bit and even out the weight. Overall, I have driven a lot of cars. I'm 50, and have loved cars since I was 15 and took a Vette over 100mph for my first time down a 2 lane. This is one of the best cars I have ever driven. And I stand by it, even though it has a Saturn Badge. It's like calling a Shelby Cobra a Ford. I congratulate anyone who has a Redline for their innate sense of knowing a good car without following the herd in damning the car. In my opinion, Chevrolet Performance Division was on target when they named the ION REDLINE as the Flagship car that they developed in 2006. Nope it was'nt the CTSV Cadillac. It wasn't the 'Vette. It was the lowly ION that they chose....because they took a frame from Saturn, and the engine from the Cobalt SS, and tranny from a SAAB truck, and other parts from Audi, VW, and other companies they owned....and tested each component on the Nurburgring,,,and kaboom, the ION REDLINE. They were proud and it is a superior car. Because of the Saturn Badge, the motor news thought it was a "Saturn". And shoved it into a cubby hole as a non-serious car for a driver. But to anyone that has ever driven one, you know what I mean. They are taught, spritely, wicked fast little buggers that make driving fun. Anybody that gets their hands on one is lucky - they made very few. If you happen to own a Redline, please take care of it....but enjoy the little bastard. They are such fun to drive. And you only know this if you have ever driven one. So to hell with the magazines....you guys had it wrong, and now, as popularity for the poor little car rises, you will be found guilty of badge-ism. Keep'em out of the trees my friends, Sincerely, Car-man.

And another thing to make you more proud of it? It wasn't given the Cobalt SS's engine. The Cobalt SS got the Redline's engine.

I proudly own a '07 Redline with the Competition Package. Let me tell you, this thing flys, and what I love about it is the uniqueness..they are a rare find. I got lucky and bought it from someone who babied it Best part about it is...it's a sleeper. No one suspects its quickness until I pass them..

you say "it is reminiscent of the cobalt ss." This is true BUT what most people do not know is that the redline came out in 2004 the cobalt as did not appear until 2005. So if you were driving a cobalt ss and said "this is reminiscent of a redline" it would be a true statement. also, the redline is better in regards to looks and not to mention the recaro seats. the center mounted cluster and the rear doors make it so much nicer. and I believe it is a little bit lighter as well. I have a 2005 redline and I wouldn't trade it for anything. nice review btw. it is definitely a torquey S.O.B., and that supercharger wine never gets old.

I like the term you used you become a part of the car it's true you really are in control of these suckers. I dropped my pulley down few sizes, replaced the crap cooling pump they put in it, and put slightly bigger injectors you really feel the pull now

I have some constructive criticism. The first one is music that isn't as shrill in the intro; it doesn't match the pacing of the shots at all. After that is that you should open with shots of the Ion, not a 'stang. In fact, I'd scrap the Mustang shots all together. But what do I know? Maybe you've learned in the past 3-4 years.

The ion redline came out before the cobalt ss, GM used it as the "test" to see if buyers would be interested in the cobalt ss. Also the engine is from a saab.

They're GREAT cars. Needless to say, I've thought about buying one. The Cobalt SS is practically the same thing. Difference is, the Saturn Ion redline feels a little more dated than the cobalt. I'm going to be reviwing a Cobalt SS very soon, so stay turned. It's going to be an awesome video. :)

I miss my redline sometimes. Makes me wish I didn't trade it for my 2010 mitsubishi lancer gts. But it had 97k miles on it and I felt like it was just shit the bed. Especially since the timing belt and tensioner went not to long before I got rid of it. I'm sure if I had done some Seafoam through it, changed the plugs, new wires, new battery, you know the works, it probably would have ran alot faster and smoother than it did. But me being 16 and not knowing alot about cars didn't realize that. That's the good thing about the mitsubishi community though, since I joined when I was 17 I've learned so much about cars since. Which again is bad because it makes me look back and see all these things I could have done to my redline. I miss boost. Oh well. You learn from your mistakes.

I have this same car but mine is manual but it is now acting up and there is only 80,000 miles on it . Car battery is good but when I'm driving sometimes the speed will reduce to 5mph and won't go any faster and there's days where the car won't even turn on. Where I have to jump it. I've had it for a year and this is the first time I've had any problems with it. It is also winter here. What is wrong with my car Took it to 3 mechanics and every time they put it on there diagnostic thing nothing comes up and says it is perfectly fine but than the next day it won't start or Will only drive 5mph
