Quick mod to adjust the handle on an arbor press, without grinding the teeth!!!!

Just a quick video on a mod so I can quickly alter the position of the handle of the axminster arbour press. It isn't ideal and I have a better, but, more complicated idea that I may get round to, but this will do for now and keeps the solar in place.

Great simple video on adjusting my arbor press. I did not use the ball pin but now I see why that is an awsome idea

I just replaced the Allen set screw in the retaining collar with a thumb screw. Easy on and off without a tool needed.

Guessing you could also put shims under the workpiece/big metal thing at the base? I do like the method you showed as it keeps the depth to the max and seems easier to get the right angle over the grinding teeth method.

I just leave the collar off and add a spring from the handle to where the collar is supposed to be installed and just hook on one of the bolts that adjusts the tension on the up and down motion...you can run the spring under...over or in front of the gear/plunger holder...your call...when you want to adjust...just pull on the handle sideways and viola...you're done...no muss no fuss...

Clever idea. its a bit like drilling on a mill, the handle is never in the right spot for comfort. I found a jones and shipman press like this in a pile of crap at work, stuck in a cheeky bid, so fingers crossed i'll get it.

I'm pretty sure the one I had nicked ws a jones and shipman, so much better, this does the job but nothing like the quality of the J&S, Hope you get it.

Cliff, nice mod. However you’re probably all squared away by now with this but I was thinking...... Regarding the handle, possibly weld a half inch socket on they’re so you could use a ratchet wrench. You can make the handle as long as you need. Just a thought. Another nice video. Thanks.

Jasper Trills, I like your idea as well as other ideas mentioned, I am not sure yet what I would choose in this situation. I will say I have another project in the pipeline that your thoughts will be applied, Thanks. Cheers from John, Australia.

@2steelshells He said he had it "lying around" his shop, so I guess he was his own source LOL. I often find things in my boxes of scrounged and spare parts that I've long forgotten their origin and source yet they help me anyway. Just google "ball catch" and you should find some industrial supply place likely to have what you need. In the US I'd suggest Grainger's as a starting point.

Don't feel bad, I've blued the wrong side more times than I'll care to admit. Appreciate the video, just picked up a Jet number 2 and I've been shaking my head at what a piece of ^%#^ it is. Probably made in China as it's the worst casting Ive ever seen.
