Quick & Easy Banana Pudding | No bake pudding, vanilla wafers, bananas &

This quick and easy banana pudding recipe is the perfect dessert to whip up on short notice. Chances are you'll have most of these items on hand anyway!
INGREDIENTS
2 boxes Jello vanilla pudding (banana-flavored pudding can be used if preferred - either way, make sure it’s instant pudding!)
4 cups milk
1 box Vanilla wafers
2-3 bananas
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Line bottom of square casserole dish with vanilla wafers.
2. Mix up one box of vanilla pudding. Spoon pudding over top of vanilla wafers.
3. Slice up one banana on top of that layer.
4. Line sides of casserole dish with vanilla wafers to create the outer "crust."
5. Mix up another box of vanilla pudding and spoon over the top of what is there.
6. Slice up another banana on top and press pieces down into pudding and smooth over with more pudding.
7. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Serve with Cool Whip. (You can add Cool Whip to the top of the whole banana pudding or you can serve it individually on top if some don't like Cool Whip.)

    Why use Vanilla pudding instead of banana pudding? I've asked all my Southern relatives that. Just asking your opinion. And is it ok to use the instant pudding or the cook n serve?

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    @OldTimeKnowledge

    Жыл бұрын

    @@SW-Lopez1980 I only use the instant pudding because the cook and serve won’t be as quick. You can certainly use the cook and serve but it won’t be these directions. You would have to cook the pudding first. And the reason why everyone I know uses vanilla pudding for this is because it just has a better flavor that blends well with the banana. Using banana pudding with bananas it’s just overwhelming. It’s almost like you can’t really taste the bananas on their own because the pudding flavor overwhelms the actual fruit.

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    Assuming you used instant pudding, it should be thickened up within just a few minutes. It won’t be as thick as it’s going to get if you refrigerate it for a while, but it will be thick enough that you can tell it’s a setting correctly.

    I searched for banana pudding after seeing a skit about "the South." This is so not what I was expecting! Here (Australia) a pudding is a boiled/steamed type of cake. Sometimes self-saucing. Banana pudding is more like a banana trifle. It's tempting to make, but I've never seen Nilla wafers, that custard-jelly (that you called pudding), or Cool Whip (is that just wiped cream?). LOL

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    @OldTimeKnowledge

    2 жыл бұрын

    Cool Whip is a very cheap imitation of proper whipped cream, but it holds up really well long after you've used it to top a dessert. The "custard-jelly" you refer to, our Jello, is an instant version of this type of thing (www.mybakingaddiction.com/homemade-vanilla-pudding/) ... I can see why you'd call this a trifle. While trifles aren't typical desserts here in the southern USA (yes, some people make them and eat them, but it's not a common thing), I do know what they are and this does seem similar. Regardless of whether you make it or not thank you for watching and for taking the time to comment!

    Seams kinda complicated to me. In the video you only use 1 box of pudding. In the directions you say to use 2 boxes. Which is it?

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    @OldTimeKnowledge

    It’s not complicated. Just follow the directions in the show notes. If you have a large box of pudding mix, you would just use one but if you have the smaller boxes of pudding, which is the normal size then you would use two.

    I got my pudding runny. I’m wondering what went wrong 🤔

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    @OldTimeKnowledge

    3 жыл бұрын

    It could be a lot of things. First of all, this recipe calls for instant pudding. Also, you might just follow the directions on the box for how much milk to use with the pudding mix. In this case, we use less milk than the box actually calls for. The box calls for 3 cups per box but we only use 2 cups per box for this. And lastly, it does take a little bit of time for the pudding to set up which is why you should put it in the refrigerator for a while.

  • @sahithinickhy4192

    @sahithinickhy4192

    @@OldTimeKnowledge thank you for the reply. I have used 240ml of milk for each pack of instant pudding. Do you think this is where I went wrong? I refrigerated for more than 12 hrs but it is still runny. I have made this for the first time, sorry for bothering you with too many questions.

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    @OldTimeKnowledge

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@sahithinickhy4192 My guess is you are using a different kind of pudding than what we have. I had to look up the conversion. 240 ml would only be 1 cup. For our pudding, you would use 2 cups per instant package and I use two packages in this recipe, so 4 cups total. I think you can get the idea of how this is made, though. You are basically just putting vanilla wafers in the bottom of the dish, around the dish, and after the first layer of pudding, and also adding in some sliced bananas and if you like some kind of whipped topping on top. You might need to follow the instructions on whatever type of pudding you are purchasing and use a little bit less than what it calls for.

    Fair point. Where I live, when you just say Jell-O pudding, it’s always instant pudding. The regular Jell-O pudding is instant, otherwise it’s specifically Jell-o Cook ‘n Serve. But it might not be that way everywhere. I have added instant to the description above. Thank you for the suggestion!

  • @OldTimeKnowledge

    Plenty of vanilla wafers? Two small boxes of instant pudding? Sliced bananas and cool whip? Honestly, the pudding should already start firming up before you even put it in the refrigerator. It should definitely be thick so if it was already runny, then you might’ve put in too much milk for the amount of pudding you used. I hate that it didn’t work out for you! An issue of runnyness is almost always going to be either too much milk or it’s possible that you used a different pudding than I used, or different amount of pudding.

    That’s why it says in the title “quick and easy banana pudding” and then it says “no bake pudding”. Those are cues to let people know that this is not the regular time-intensive banana pudding recipe. It’s a shortcut, just like using a box of cake mix as a shortcut. And yes, this is delicious. 😉
