Hey Mike, My name is Joseph, I'm a college student now(Freshman). I discovered you through American Football. During my Senior year of high school, I asked my teacher for albums to listen to further my music taste. This random teacher chimed in and told me to listen to American Football, the first LP. I was apprehensive but I took a lesson and ever since then, I've listened to every song your band has released. I have so many memories in such little time with these albums and these songs. I've cried so many times, laughed so many times, and made so many memories with this one girl who is out of my life from the mistakes I've made. I've fallen asleep to your albums and have lost myself in them. Even listening to this song and writing this comment, I want to cry. I love every single song and am so grateful I was introduced to your music. Even when times are hard, even when I want to let go of the past, these songs help so much. Even when I look back to my relationship with this girl, the one where I still think I love her; the one where I connected with her over your music, I still smile because your music did so much for us; it did so much for me. Thank you, Mike. Thanks for creating, and thank you for staying true. You are so talented and poetic with your music, anyone who is anyone will be impressed Truly, I am so appreciative of your music, and I hope to one day be able to compose like you. You're down to earth.

I think it's my first ever KZread comment in more than 10 years but I highly regard everything you write Mike. It's really touching and beautiful and this probably be an understatement. Looking forward for the new album. Btw "Who am I kidding?" would be translated by "De qui je me moque ?" in French if by that you meant "Who am I making fun of ?". Anyway greetings from Brussels

We live in such a weird time ir seems like everyone knows who American Football is. This may be kind of rude and I apologize for that but I am finding myself flabbergasted by this contrast. To answer your first question yes he is! He is one of the pioneers of Midwest emo, and as you can see, he’s still got it in spades. Unfortunately, his solo stuff has always been criminally underrated.

He says that the title is “probably” an incorrect translation of the phrase “Who am I kidding?” There is a line in the song that indicates he wants to learn another language (in this case, French) but doesn’t ultimately make the effort. So the mistranslation in the title comes full circle - he half-assed the effort, ergo the title is poorly translated.
