    Yeah but quest is like "ok, look the thing is, first of all, when this was, let me back up, ok, you know like when" and he can't just tell a story without restarting like 10 times. He's like the character Fred Armisen played on SNL with the newspaper. And those dudes aren't start struck so they're just like talking all over each other while quest still wants to finish the first part to a story they already forgot about. He does this all the time. Watch the Red Bull video from back in 2005. Interviewer asked him a question and he answers it in a way that never even addresses it because he rerouted his response so many times mid-sentence.

I turned to another hip hop station, and sure enough, they were bumping Biggie too. I knew he was dead!

But I respect Quest and the roots as musicians so much that I wish we could have heard more of why the album frustrated him. I have to agree somewhat with Chris Rock. Dark Twisted does deserve to be mentioned among the great albums like Thriller and Purple Rain. I'm not sure I can co-sign that it was better than Purple Rain though. I will say that the only reason Dark Twisted didn't get it's just due is because the majority mainstream America was too anti-Kanye back then.

    I'm going to assume Chris Rock feels that way because he seen where it was at some point in the project when he came in to do his part for the album and then to hear it all come together it means more to him...he sees the genius behind it...where we just see it as a project that has some hip hop elements and some of our favorite rappers sprinkled through it but doesn't quite sound all the way like hip hop...at least that what i get when i listen to that album

  • @Dave....

    @Dave....

    9 жыл бұрын

    dasmobster Yeah I could definitely see more appreciation coming from it that way. It just shocked me even more that Chris Rock is way older. So he's lived through many eras and to chose that as his all time, just is wow. I'd expect that from anyone under 30. But it's his opinion at the end of the day.

  • @robg7843
    @robg78439 жыл бұрын

    This is why l hate debating who is the best rapper or rap album with people. When people become fanatics, they can't be objective about a rapper or albume. Chris Rock now thinks MBDTF is the best ever cus he worked with him and the features? Are you kidding me? Better than "Purple Rain" or "Songs in the Key of Life?". And Questlove likes "Blueprint" a lot because of 9/11. And Rosenberg doesn't like "All of the lights?" You will have a head ache trying debate people like that.

    For any1 that disagrees with Chris's opinion on MBDTF, you are some fucc bois who don't know SHIT about music and/or music production. That album is as decadent and beautiful as sonics can get. It's like 'Ye took all of the things that made his previous albums amazing and condensed it into a disc/iTunes media file. It's also him @ his darkest and most introspective moments with a lil (or a lot of) dichotomy on the side. It's the most critically acclaimed album out of any music genre in the 21st century so far and that's a fact Metacritic can even back up. GKMC, Take Care, NWTS and WTT can't even touch it. And that says A FUCKING LOT. Call me a Yeezy dickrider, but myself and many true music connoisseurs including a very noted hip-hop 1 like Chris will agree. Shittt, ppl who don't even like Kanye LOVE that album.

    Better than Thriller? Better than Purple Rain? Lol two of the most critically acclaimed albums from two of the most critically acclaimed artists that shaped the life of generations INCLUDING KANYE. You're comparing this album against 1 Kendrick album and 2 Drake albums. Hip-Hop didnt start 10 years ago. I wouldnt've even waste my time listing classic 90's albums that are just as intricate, you're obviously already biased for w/e reason, but I just urge you to atleast look up some of the great albums in music of the last 20 years before speaking. Music isnt sports, it cant be quantified so you're allowed to have your OPINION. But dont state it as FACT because some b.s. internet website told you to. Negros listen 2 rap all day and think they know music lol. I might as well say something stupid like the Mona Lisa is the best painting of all time.

    ***** I will say Thriller is in the debate for that title, but more so culturally significant at the time than musically significant lol. And I never said my opinion was fact, but based on the odds they definitely are VERYYYYYYY close to it. And things in general get better over time as they're improved upon by new methods which is why I believe the best rap music is from 2000-present if you really look for it. And those albums I named are imo arguably the best rap albums of the past decade. Definitely the past half decade for sure. Like I'm way more impressed with the production of say a "Tuscan Leather" or a "All of the Lights" than fucking "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" or "Pop Life" lmfao. The only niggas in hip hop that I truly believe in right now is 'Ye, Drake, Kendrick, and J. Cole so those album picks in that regard are biased but odds also say it's not far from the truth. And it's not bad 2 be biased to those guys I just named. The only reason you probably look @ the projects I named the way u do is because they're relatively recent. It's like niggas is stuck in time periods they can't get out of and can't accept the new and modern and how this shit is way better and improved. These niggas is pushing the culture forward the way they're supposed to do it. Niggas need to get wit it

    Kanye is the most overrated rapper ever. He made some good music. Personally, id say 808's is his best album.

    Who the hell thought that Biggie said "Invisible bully, like the Roots, vamoose, you're wack to me."? That shit don't even make any damned sense. He clearly said "The Gooch". Maybe I lived my whole life wondering what The Gooch, from Differnt Strokes, really looked like so I caught the reference. Maybe Different Strokes wasn't as popular as I thought it was. Either way for people to automatically think of some beef shit, without any other inference, what so ever, is pretty fucking lame. Chris Rock is trolling hard with the Kanye comments.

    At the time it made sense that he could possibly have said "like The Roots" because of the What They Do video. It could have easily been a response from Biggie. So I don't think it was that far fetch for people to think that, unlike some of the stuff today that people pretend is a sneak diss now that rap beef will get you popular. Personally, I did get the reference because Different Strokes was my shit and it was a sick like by BIG to bring it up.
