    This is why politicians have lost respect. I feel sure that, before they go on any programme, they are instructed in what they must not answer and told the answers they must give, irrespective of whether it is appropriate to the question. No way was this guy ever going to answer that simple question. He should have been asked whether he would answer the question or not and pulled up abruptly by Fiona Bruce immediately he started his prepared irrelevant speech. Presenters and interviewers must bear some responsibility.

  • @robertp6859

    @robertp6859

    Жыл бұрын

    @@keithbarlow6596 I agree, presenters and interviewers need to crack down on this. First time someone refuses to answer the question they should be warned. 2nd time they should be instantly silenced and not allowed to make any further comment on that particular topic. If they continue to dodge questions, there should be a studio vote on whether or not they are dodging the question, and if 2/3 say yes then that person should be asked to leave the studio in a walk of shame, and their chair left vacant for the rest of the program. This should become standard practice in all current affairs programs. Only then can we change this culture of avoiding honest answers. It is NOT ok!

  • @robertp6859

    @robertp6859

    Жыл бұрын

    A few caveats: There are situations where a person may feel genuinely like they have been pushed into a no win corner, or genuinely unable to answer the question. Sometimes people try to force politicians to fall into a trap with an unfair question. So people should have the right to remain silent or refuse to answer a question they feel is unfair. But they should not be allowed to deflect or spin away from the issue. I also respect people if they sometimes admit that they don't have all the answers. Even if the question is fair and a politician just wants to avoid admitting an inconvenient truth, an honest refusal to answer is better than twisting and deflecting. Obvious case in point half way through this debate: At the point when Andrew Bowie was offered the option to shut his gob, he should have sensed the mood was against him and taken the hint. He might have gained a bit of respect, but instead he doubled down on his party promoting spin and lost any last shred of integrity. Meanwhile, Louise Haigh's enraged face said it all!

    What should have been done to solve the problem of rising crime rate is to change the current civil and criminal codes of laws to increase punishments to make people think twice before doing anything illegal because they do not want to deal with unbearable severe punishment, but not merely increasing the number of police officers. Additionally, the requirements for recruiting people into the police forces and training police officers have to be reviewed and changed. Such problems have much more to do with the organisation and the ineffectiveness of the current old laws which needed to be updated to function well in new social contexts, than with the quantity of the police forces

    The legal system can function as well as expected by the public only when the laws are effective, without the presence of police officers, and in order for the laws to be effective, they must be strict, and the punishments must be so harsh or severe that no-one wants to break any law to deal with such unbearable punishments with persisting negative effects on their lives. If people abide by the laws only when there is the presence of police officer, they don't really see or understand the consequences of illegal behaviour or actions, and still commit crimes when there is not any police officer in sight, but when they understand the possible consequences, such as long-lasting and severe punishments which can affect their lives for so long that they do not want to deal with any of such punishments, they would rather not violate any law which can lead them to experiencing such severe and unbearable punishments. That is how to make the legal system of any governing system function well, without having to increase the police forces, or use a lot of police officers, but still failing to control rising crime rates as currently seen in both the UK and the US

    We need to be totally self sufficient. Then brexit would work. As long as we are relying on other countries it won't work. You can't have the cake then eat it.alot of this points to defence.

    We're not getting "a lot" of help at all. The pittance the government decided was enough to cover our energy bills pays for 3 weeks worth of heat a year. Let's not forget who forced us into poverty either. I refuse to be grateful for money I'm given by the Tories because I have paid thousands of pounds in tax and I've never been well off.
