    the amount of variety in this game is MIND BOGGLING. it's crazy how many cards are in the base game alone, not to mention the huge amount of cards added in the expansions. i've been shilling for this game online since i got it last year. the price is admittedly a bit high, but also maybe A BIT LOW given the overwhelming amount of cards that come! i've only ever played solo, so i don't know what it's like with other people but...anyone who plays solo games should look in to this. if you know what rogue-like video games are and enjoy them, this is THE ABSOLUTE BEST board/card game version you'll ever find.

    There's a crowd funding sale on it and the last add-on going on right now. These sales are the best time to pick these rather expensive games up.

    Should I get either the Risk and Reward or Hack and Slash Loot add-on for Pixel Quest? I can't figure out what they add except more stuff. I am hoping that either expansion adds more challenge to the game.

    Love this game, recommend it to anyone who wants a roguelike in a boardgame, spent a lot of time searching for one and this is by far the best out there. Mainly three complaints: 1) the combat is too simplistic for me. There are elements on weapons and armor, but these are largely just extra hit pools and do not add any mechanical complexity. Good because you're free to house rule how poison works, bad because theres nothing there to fall back to 2) its way too easy to become OP. I wish the treasure rules and artifact rules were more balanced because on my 1st run I was able to get some of the best gear in the game on my first floor. From that point on, every treasure I gained was irrelevant, and I never made use of gems or potions. 3) I wish there was some questing system, anything really. Something to give you objectives during your dungeon crawl. Again, the game's fundamentals are truly there and well, and its very easy to house rule something in, but again, the fact you have to house rule or not have it is a con in my eyes. I've heard some balance house rules can fix some of these, such as having artifacts break after a certain number of uses. I recommend adding stuff from D100 dungeon too if you have it, such as geographic features or doors, or being able to search rooms. Also recommend adding some quest structure of your own - each run is 10 floors, so maybe 1st floor is a sewer, after this you come back up, finish that quest, head to a new one (2nd floor). I think if you pause thinking about it as one single game, and instead as separate parts that are combined to make a game, you can add your own flavoring to it and use some of the structure out of the box to really define an experience that works better for you

    I want to love D100 Dungeon, but I just don’t. I’ve tried to get into it 4 times now and it just doesn’t grab me. Some parts of it are just too abstract. Quest for the Lost Pixel does a lot of things well. And I agree, you have to house rule a few things to really get it over a hump and change it to something that really flows well. I may cannibalize some of my D100 components later.

    It's weird to me that tabletop games found their way onto computers as they got more complex and now people are recreating the computer experience in a physical game. It seems inside out of backwards sometimes, like looking through a telescope the wrong way. Does anybody else ever get that way?

  • @TheDungeonDive

    The symbiotic relationship has always been there. It used to be more that computer games borrowed from TT games, but now the reverse is just as, if not more true.

    I have tried a publisher with this twice…simple answer I have received, too many cards. This has always been a game made for me. I will not reduce the content in hopes that a publisher will budge on it. I love this game…it’s my baby. I hope that makes more sense.

    @@MrJankTv I get it. It’s a true shame that this gem doesn’t get the reach that it deserves though. Lots of folks outside of the US who would love to get their hands on it but the price is prohibitively expensive via Gamecrafter, especially if you’re adding up to $50 of shipping to it.

    One more thing: i'm not suggesting you need minis. My favorite board game EVER doesn't have them ( Escape From 100 Million BC) .. It's just that the price for Quest For The Lost Pixel is high considering it has no minis...

  • @TheDungeonDive

    @TheDungeonDive

    It’s print on demand from an indie developer. Things get exponentially cheaper when a publisher can print thousands of copies. However, this is still cheaper than things like the Arkham LCG, and is infinitely playable, and one of the best dungeon crawls ever made.

    The $199.99 is straight up the cost of printing, materials, and labor here in the states for the best quality components for an Indy designer. I make $.19 for every copy sold. It’s not a rip off as this is a print on demand service. I don’t make the prices, this is the price for 800 cards being printed in America for an on demand printing service.

    I feel that this game is OVER PRICED .. $124??? And no minis? Come on. It seems that nostalgia is being used to tug at the heart strings of retro fans to reel them in...the game is simply not worth $124.. Anything over 100 bones needs miniatures. Card stock standies aint cutting it, no matter how you slice it...

    Everything looks good BUT the art..... Why? Why this pixels artwork? I was happily left that pixels back at the start of 2000. Why go back now? We have seen so wonderful art in various games that are an enjoyment by themselves. This......no.....no......why? As a person that likes hand drawing and have worked as a graphic designer in a company it makes me feel...awkwardly.
