My favorite SL of all time, no wonder Mercedes built them for nearly 2 decades, and it fitted those 2 decades perfectly and it still looks timeless
Why does this awesome video have so few likes?? Great writing, timing, videography, cleverness... and about a classic car beloved by so many (including yours truly and P.J. O’Rourke). Excellent video!!
I’m getting one. This is the epitome of cool!

The SL Shop is a wonderful place 😊
Only a handful of cars warrant the moniker "icon". No one would disagree that the R107 SL is among them. Great vid !
Great video! I honestly think this is perhaps the best looking car ever built. Timeless! It's one of those very few cars that as they age, they just look even better.
When I was younger I work very hard to try to buy a 1989 red one I was just a teenager I never bought it I bought an older 1974 50 SL and recently last year about a 560 SL 1987 I sold the 415 years ago and kept The 560 SL
That Champagne is beautiful!
First Mercedes I ever sat in I remember it like it was yesterday I was 6 years Old and now I am 32 and I still love Mercedes its a very nostalgic car brand for me in my life

I rode in one in 1985 and resolved to get one. 34 years later I did. Most enjoyable car I’ve ever owned. I rarely drive it without someone commenting/asking about it. So much fun!
beautiful video SL Shop. :)
My dream car
QW perhaps the best and certainly my favourite motoring journalist
I have my w116 350sel...but my dream car is still the 107. Amazing machine!
I just bought one at last. The autobahn beckons once all the C19 stuff is over!

I just bought one today too Bob. I hope it lives up to your expectations.
Yes! Valet man parked it up front! Whew!
No touchscreen nonsense in this Merc, just pure driving
Such a wonderful video, actually on the market for an SL. Been to the SL Shop...yep!!!
These and the pagoda roof are the most desirable in my opinion.
Got one and I love it
Great car and affordable compared to the crazy money paid for the 'Pagoda' tops .

Both cars have a pagoda top!!
The think the earlier SL's looked the best in terms of style.. more of a classic look than the modern 80s examples.
Quentin Wilson looks like Sir Kenneth Clark. Art historian.
Which Mercedes-Benz Fan other than Quentin Wilson would have suited to this review better? None. Hope the man does still well today.
I have a red 350. I cannot drive it wthout a smile.
wish Quentin would come back on tv brilliant
The 500 is epic. There’s nothing quite like a big slow revving massively torquey V8 that burbles away from the lights and cruises at an indicated 80 just barely ticking over at 2,500 rpm. The best of the late model rust free ones are now past £50k, but worth every penny.

Much much cheaper in the USA but still rising slowly. A very good one can be had for less than $20k

MarquisRex For some unfortunate reason, perhaps demand, perhaps the relative rarity of RHD cars, classics are more expensive here. So much so that it often pays to import from somewhere like the US and do a RHD conversion for the UK market. This seems to apply in particular to the XK120 and the E-Type.

I’ve been looking at this phenomenon closely. The US classic euro scene always lags Europe itself but it will catch up! I bought an M635CSi in 2012 for 8k!!! I bought a close to mint 560sl last year for 3500!! The M6 has gone be nuts now. I just think Americans are SLOW to appreciate European classics. You see it with old jaguars imparticular!

Mercedes Benz….simply the best 💗
C'est une excllante voiture!
I’ve never heard anyone suggest this was a woman’s car.
“The Germans know a thing or two about building tanks” 😉
Inflation might have a problem with your argument😂 29000 today is not the same as 40years ago. But a lovely car and a nice video👍
The 560 sl. Is like. A fine. Wine it just. Gets. Better. With time Classy. And sports. And. A real eye. Candy
What’s the song about 50seconds in
I have owned and driven this car and recently bought a 1999 R129 SL320 that is literally streets ahead of the car it replaced and actually better in many respects than the car that replaced it!

It’s. A. Classic did they rolled out of the assembly line it was destined to be one it’s like a black tux or little black dress never goes out of style I preferred to 560 sl these things are shooting up in value and would prefer it over a new one timeless classiy. Money well spent
They look beautiful. I have heard they rust quite a lot around the front windscreen drains. Is that true?

Ladies car is an easy car to drive!! But hey, what's easier than driving a Bentley?!!
This guy's a far better presenter than those other two idiots, Tiff Needell and Jeremy Clarkson
Great video. Beautiful car. Questionable comments regarding no depreciation and then he says he could get one for 5,000 quid. If you get one for £5k I’d imagine you’ll have at least £10k of maintenance to make it right. Great car, and they do require upkeep. (Mine’s 40 years old and flawless, so I think I have some idea).

Don’t worry about Rust on other cars, because they went through the crusher long ago
Honestly I can't agree with Quentin on this. Always thought they were ugly (particularly when compared to their predecessor) and my uncles one always drove like a boat. When it launched it was competing with the Triumph Stag. The Stag is much nicer to drive, looks a million times better and drives beautifully. Yet BL never put them together properly. Mercedes build quality it was held the SL up so high. No one else could compete, even if (on paper) they had a better car.
@bernardwarr4187

I love Triumphs, but can’t understand why anyone would buy a Stag over an SL. Quality is just from different worlds
The R107 is girly!!!? What? First time I hear this
Well Quentin , I've got my 5k, where is my money's Worth?

5k can get you to the SL Shop and back!! In America you will need to at least $20k as starter to buy a decent SL, otherwise it's a waste of time!! Because these cars must run like the way it left the production line!!!!
Nice examples shown in the video, but the valet parking bit was so staged that it was cringeworthy. If you're going to try and make a statement like that, at least TRY and make the "test" seem believable.

Clearly, no clue how depreciation works. At least say that it depreciated close to the rate of inflation.

@Fanzindel

@@gusibrahim6961 sure, but that’s what this discussion was about. Also, appreciation is just the opposite of depreciation, still a financial term. So...
Snob appeal has been out of fashion for a long time. Just who is our presenter aiming his message at? This video is long on image but damn short on substance. Many owners bought these cars for the top build quality, safety, reliable performance, and engineering excellence. My 1971 350 SL was all of that and more. There were faster competitors but none easier to love and live with. Still trying to impress the valet? How sad.
Downvoted for disgusting useless commentary at the end
Nice to look at, boring as all hell to drive. Had a 450SL for awhile. Handling was great, power feeling sucked. Car just didn't have much character in my opinion.

Great pics of the car but horrible video -- who wrote the dialogue, Harvey Weinstein? Talk about a horrible representation for a company.
