I'm honestly glad Kurt Russel got the role over Mickey Rourke. I could definitely see him working in the creepy sense but the aspect of Kurt Russel that works soo well in Death Proof is his natural innocence. It sells you on the possibility that "maybe" he isn't bad. He pulls off both sides off the psycho flawlessly.

Yeah at the beginning, you have this sense of... "Am I judging this guy too quick, maybe he is not that bad", something that you would not do with Mickey Rourke who just looks like a iredeemable villain instantly.

You nailed it, I feel like Rourke would be more psycho than anything else which wouldn’t be terrible for the role and still would have been good, but Russel had more than that, he was perfect.

Just watched death proof for the first time and damn was it ever good. Especially near the end. Finally a movie giving me exactly what I wanted. He was once excited about this movie and was so excited to share it but because it didnt recieve well, you can tell he started to seperate himself from this film and claim it as his "worst" film. This was actually an outstanding film.

Yeah, the way Kurt screams and cries at the end and turns into a helpless kitten is hilarious. I don't think Mickey could have pulled it off quite the same way. Kurt brings a sorta creepy, but sadistically humorous feel to stuntman Mike. But I guess we'll never know.

Death Proof is arguably one of the most underrated movies in Tarantino's filmography, but as time goes by, the movie was gaining a certain notoriety, think also of Marty Scorsese and his movie The Irishman, some people found it boring because of the quantity of time it lasted and those who love cinema found it a real masterpiece. The following years will decide whether the film deserves to have people's notoriety and if we talk about the most actual fillmmakers, Chris Nolan is one of them, from being an underrated director to one of the most acclaimed ones thanks to his succesful movie Oppenheimer at the Oscars.

The extended, standalone version sucks, honestly. But the short edit released alongside with Planet Terror is absolutely one of QTs best. Right at the top of his movies. It cuts out a lot of the unnecessary fat the extended version has. Carsploitation needs to be fast.

Agents are legally required to show their clients ALL offers, so this is more likely Mickey just not wanting to do it and told his agent to handle it.

I remember seeing Grindhouse when it came out at the Pacific 12 in Culver City. Of course I knew what the vibe was and the fake trailers in between were a delight(save for that terrible Rob Zombie one), Death Proof didn’t really feel like a Grindhouse flick, but it was a thrill ride nonetheless. So much talking and naked dirty toes…QT’s heaven, but the stunt driving was the hook for sure. After the double feature, we are piling out and I hear some girl ask her granny what she thought of the film….”I liked them, but they sure looked old.” I laughed to myself. At the time, most casual filmgoers just didn’t get it.

I don’t even hear them mention the theatrical cut or extended cut? Surprising because it’s almost day and night the difference of the quality of film to me but still love the movie in both versions. I was surprised when Tarantino felt it was his worse films because it’s one of my favorites 😂
