A person saying a classic Bond movie is "cheesy" in a depreciative way can't possibly be a real Bond fan.

It is my favorite Moore Bond film. I did not care for him in the role though. I saw it as a double bill back in 79 with ALIEN. I am 67 now, and have to say I prefer the CRAIG bond films more. Also the death of one of the people in tilm, is not shown, ut the violence of what happens to that person is pretty bad, and I am talking about MOOTRAKIER.

Some great stunt work in Moonraker. And Shirley Bassey's theme is beautiful.

Moonraker was the first James Bond film i saw in the Theater. I thought it was starsky and hutch for some reason, i was 6. My view of it over time has changed, i loved it as a kid and then hated it up until about Ten years ago. There is a lot of stupid shit in it but i love Roger Moore in it and i love the way it looks. I like the set pieces and the wardrobe, there is something so of a specific time and place (ending the 70s and moving into the 80s) with it that i now smile watching it……the Gondola chase is terrible.

I notice that Kingsman: The Secret Service borrows the same meglo villain plan from Moonraker - to destroy all life on earth except for his own elite select people.

There are good things about Moonraker. Moore is at the tail end of his prime as Bond, Drax is a great villain, Jaws is still fun to watch, the set design is fantastic John Barry's score is great, and the opening skydiving sequence is entertaning. The space stuff is just silly and stupid though. I get that the whole point was to cash in on the Star Wars craze, but if that final half hour had been set on Earth, it would've been a much better film.

Drax’ one liners are all time classics. Michael Lonsdale is menacing. A very entertaining movie. It is self deprecating in a way no other movie had been at the time, decades before MCU seemed to invent it. Tarantino is way to harsh.

The question is; Could "Moonraker" be saved with a talented edit version? For my example please see "Dune 1984" theater release vs "Dune 1984" Spacediver edit with more Fremen, more costumes and more villainy from the Harkonnens.

The answer is yes. Such a fan edit exists. I've been it and, without the self-indulgence and silliness, it's worthy a entry in the franchise.

People kinda drive me nuts when they get overly analytical with Bond movies. The thing with Bond movies, depending on what era & Bond actor the entry came from, they’re like apples & oranges. If you’re in the mood for a down to earth, serious Bond movie, watch The Living Daylights. If you’re in the mood for a silly, fun Bond movie, watch Moonraker. If you’re in the mood for a Bond movie that has the best of both worlds, watch The Spy Who Loved Me. It doesn’t have to be so stress-inducing or complicated. Sheesh.

Oh Yeeeah, it's toooo bad, that no one in Hollywood ever asked Quentin to remake Moonraker, cause we are living in modern times where this Space tech is normal everyday stuff, so a great theatrical blockbuster can thrive without the need for cheesiness.

This movie could have been so much better. First of all , Jaws should NOT have been in the pre-credit sequence. His first appearance should have been walking through the metal detectors at the airport. Second , the stewardess should have pushed Bond out of the plane ( instead of Jaws ). Third , after Bond gets his parachute on , I would have had Bond land in the back seat of a convertible driven by a gorgeous babe. And finally , had most of the silly humor been taken out , all of the above would have made Moonraker a better movie.

Agree with most Bond landing in the circus, not Jaws the kicking out of Bond from the plane Venice chae scene could have been better, too much Benny Hill influence with the pidgeon looking no need, also pity no British and Canadian commandos onboard the Space station laser fight ripe for major update.

@@patrickthomas8890 disagree completely. OHMSS the film has consistently come top of many ‘what is the best Bond film’ polls, and over the decades many film critics who once derided the film because “it didn’t have Connery in it,” have now reassessed the film (as well as Lazenby), in a much more favourable light and admit what a fine Bond entry it is. It is filmmaker’s Christopher Nolan’s favourite Bond film and even Diana Rigg (who supposedly had the odd run in with Lazenby), was once quoted that in her opinion, Lazenby’s performance was ‘fine.’ High praise indeed, coming from an actress well versed herself in Shakespearean plays, as well as TV and film roles, even before starring in OHMSS!
