quentin coldwater; start living

this is NOT my usual type of video - it's basically just clips that are thematically similar with random background music; there's very little tight editing or attention paid to the bg songs in this. i started this just after 4x13 and i just spent some time cleaning it up a bit. i added background music so it didn't feel so long; there's not really any significance to the songs - they just gave off the right vibe and it was hard to find instrumental songs that i liked and that went together (although i did consider making a q vid to "a million dreams" once upon a time). also, the mosaic scenes are blurred bc if they weren't nbc would k.o. the vid
speaking of, sorry if any of y’all have had to see my aborted attempts to upload this b4
come talk to me on tumblr! i will take any excuse to talk about the parallels i explored in this video!!!

Quentin was more than just a basket case, he was the Que that was needed, with an angelic heart and face. I also think they have a couple more seasons, if they would just bring him back.

He lived a whole life, got married, had a son and had great loves. He experienced so much more than he ever expected.

I disagree, i think the ending of quentin was perfect. however it shouldve been the series finale instead of a season early.

This is the first time in years I’ve been able to watch a Q edit and honestly I’m so glad I watched this one. Who knew all I needed to heal myself was for Q to slowly find his way back to Brakebills again while music from the greatest showman plays in the background. Screw noble sacrifice; start living!

Somehow I managed not to cry until the very end when it showed Q finding his way to Brakebills and then I sobbed lmao. This was so good and so sad and I loved it :(

I didn't appreciate Quentin enough as a character until he was gone. It devastated me and it took long time to understand why and be able to move past it. I think that kind of fits how characters on the show acted towards him. Despite everything he still had hope and watching him slowly losing that was devastating. When he asked that question if he did something brave to save his friends or finally find a way to kill himself that broke me. Like anything we move on from the grief. I didn't understand until it was too late. The character Q was portrayed exactly as he was meant to be. This was a beautiful tribute.

Since finishing this show yesterday this video really sums up the show. It really is about the would around Q, he is the glue and rock of this journey. Really if you think about it yes they did him dirty and he deserved better but, I’m glad it wasn’t like a luke or Harry Potter story in which they are the hero and all glory to them. In fact I like that the writers did an entirely different story and it turn out amazing and it will live in my heart. So thank you to all these actors and writers for honestly giving me the best tv show I have ever watched!

I see myself in Q I’ve had a lot of trauma and escapism saved me like it did Q but losing him hurt because it felt like part of me died with him but his love his passion his devotion to help anyone stays in me. Quentin coldwater you saved me you beautiful fictional character.

I understand your comment so well because I also have had a lot of stuff happen in my life that I also see a lot of myself in Q. It also hurt when he died because he didn’t get a chance to talk with Eliot after what Eliot went through to just say hey I’m still alive in here and I kind of understand that because there was this guy from my old high school that I kind of liked because he was one of the few popular guys that didn’t bully me and he was just so nice and I never actually gotten the chance to thank him for being nice to me. I was also going to tell the whole reason why I was thanking him and that I liked him but I never got that because of COVID-19 because they shutdown the schools and went to online school so I never saw him again. Also I’m sorry if that was too much I kind of over share about my feelings.

The difference between Quentin and the others is he lets himself feel horribly emotionally distraught while others brush it off he feels deeply pained and broken and sad when most characters default to anger jealousy and sarcasm. That's why his magic is so powerful for a character that isn't inherently talented. Alice Eliot penny and kady hold themselves back cuz they pick social norm and playing it cool Margot gets more powerful and succeeds more when she lets her emotions run wild and deep instead of being a partier and sarcasm machine (not a complaint of her character I love how she develops) and Eliot's love for q and Margot sparks him taking things seriously and standing for injustice instead of just solving problems with booze and parties. Alice and Julia are literally the chosen ones by other world stories standards. Handling spells others can't, becoming deities and giving up that power for the benefit of others. Their story revolves around being given ultimate power and potential and choosing to be happy content and friendship over that ultimate ability. Julia with penny and her child and Alice with her resolve to finally let Quentin go and be happy for herself.

Found this while searching for recaps up through season 4, beautifully done and very moving. I started watching this show because a friend told me Q's mannerisms reminded her of me, and especially through this retrospective I've felt a connection to the character in several ways.

I always felt like Q and Margo made more sense than Q and Alice. Margo fell for Josh because he had what she didn't. Well in truth Q had that and more.
