Jet city woman is basically a perfect song. Geoff’s vocals are among the best in rock music. Wish they could just bury the hatchet and have an original QR tour they would be so successful with a reunion tour

Guitar work on this song is exceptional. DeGarmo's solo is not flashy, instead, he builds suspense and drama with excellent feeling for bends and pauses, and it sounds absolutely fantastic.
@purplekat5864
Жыл бұрын
Yes! You explained it so well! I love how they were always about playing what served and enhanced the song, and not just showing off. So many decent songs are ruined by an over-the-top guitar solo that, musically, has very little connection to the song itself. They had such a good feel for building a song's intensity and drama, and then counter--pointing with a softer, melodic section that just elevated the whole song! I LOVE them!! And how I miss all of them being together!

Hand on Heart is another song on this record with a seriously great solo - even when you hear the song fade out at the very end the solo is just amazing
@BodhiSoftMobileApps
Жыл бұрын
This solo is a master class in the fundamental purpose of music - storytelling and connection, something that is accomplished through tension and release, conflict and resolution. Chris creates tension and resolution by alternately locking in tight to the rhythm for a couple bars and then floating out of it for a couple bars, both rhythmically and melodically, with soaring bends and freestyle rhythmic phrasing, only to come back and lock right back in, and he keeps alternating between the locked-in and fluid rhythm patterns right into the final flourish. Very much worth studying for guitarists.

Yes, that's one of the first things I noticed about Geoff (along with passion, intensity, expression, range power, overall charisma, etc.) is that he annunciated every word so they could be easily understood. But at the same time, it didn't sound at all stiff, stodgy, or contrived. It sounded very natural. Plus Geoff has such incredible control over his voice, he can add textures and nuances, and STILL be understood. ALSO, I noticed that he was not a sloppy singer. When he held notes, those notes rang with power till the very end. They didn't just dwindle and fade out. Such a fantastic singer!! He has spoiled me for most other singers.

This song is about his wife and his long times on the road doing tours. However it holds value to me from back in 91' when I had a fly in fly out GF. (she was only 17 and I was 19 and she lived in WA and I in NT in Australia. She flew in to see her mum as her parents were divorced.)

@BodhiSoftMobileApps

Very much worth studying for guitarists.

this aint metal. good yes, metal no.
This is quality Rock. Rhythmic sophistication, one of the best vocalists in the genre, guitar work is classic, mean bass line and drumming like he's on triple-pay (his follow-thru with the vocals). Seen them a few times. Never ever wanted my money back.
I've never heard a better vocalist anywhere, ever.

This is a masterpiece. Every part is perfect. It's over 5 minutes long and yet it's gripping from the first note to the last. That guitar solo always reminded me a little of "Stairway To Heaven" has that same kinda epic melody and tone. Everything you love about rock music in one amazing track! The whole "Empire" album is Queensrÿche at their best I think.

@@DragonboltBlastter they used the guy that produced a lot of Pink Floyd's legendary tunes..with new technology in the studios,it was super 'crystal clear' sounding and 'crisp'..didnt sound like a typical production from bands like 'Skid Row'. It still holds up 30 years later much better than other albums from bands back then,and much of that is due to the mixing process/ideas in the studio..L.A.Guns and Poison didnt have anywhere near the production sound of this album.

I was at this sold-out concert where this video was shot in Madison WI. I am in the audience shots by the stage. Fantastic show!!!

Agreed! They wrote their strongest stuff in that era. Even when they strayed into stripped back, minimal production mode on Hear in the Now Frontier.....DeGarmo's last effort with the band.....I like that one more all the time. DeGarmo could get above Tate on those harmonies...that's saying something. You never know man...I could see them putting some stuff together again...maybe...during Seattle's rainy season some time in the future.

This song is about his wife and his long times on the road doing tours. However it holds value to me from back in 91' when I had a fly in fly out GF. (she was only 17 and I was 19 and she lived in WA and I in NT in Australia. She flew in to see her mum as her parents were divorced.)
