Queens of the Stone Age are known for their killer grooves. I think you guys would really like some of their other stuff even more than this though, since this one is their radio-friendly hit and other songs have more to them (Song for the Dead, 3's and 7's, Millionaire, My God is The Sun, Little Sister).

The singer, Josh Homme was the guitarist for Kyuss, so it makes sense that he's pure groove. Definitely a unique guitarist. Gotta do another Kyuss song, Whitewater and Green Machine specifically.

I think once Josh Homme was asked what the song was about, and he was like, "Dude, I said! No one knows!" That dude can be hilarious sometimes...
These dudes opened for NIN and seared everybody’s face off! Loud is an understatement and it was cool to see how much talent they all have. The guys all jumped on different instruments thru the show trading places on the stage. Very respectable band!!👍

Love the Crooked Vultures album as well. Really sad they never made another.
The outro is related to the next song of the album: "First it Giveth". That radio vibe sound goes into that song.
You guys definitely need to try out a track from their album "...Like Clockwork". It came close to winning rock album of the year when it was released, and to this day is one of my top 10 favorites of all time, across any genre. If I had to recommend a song off it, I'd go with "I Appear Missing" or "If I Had A Tail". Keep on rockin 🤘

I was playing this album (selected songs) at work once and this older dude had been browsing the store in silence for a few minutes. If I had a tail started and mid song he comes dancing up to me and asks who’s playing because it can’t be the radio. I was happy that song was the one playing because you could tell his mind was blown.

You guys should never feel shame for rocking out to a random rock track on the radio. I'm an English white guy and God knows how many times I've been caught listening to some long lost b-side deep from the crates soul music. I frikkin love music ☺
I had a really rough pregnancy and Songs For The Deaf by QOTSA was one of the albums that got me through it. I listened to the fck out of that album. I also rec go with flow and Mosquito song from this album. The whole album is fire but mosquito song is so different from the rest of the album, but mournful and beautiful.

@@DragonTigerBoss I love their titles. They’re such a unique band and their sound is addictive. I was trying to express why that first album was such an important album for me, but I sometimes have trouble communicating my thoughts concisely.
Lots of QOTSA songs are about drugs. They're part of a genre known as "stoner rock," which is pretty self-explanatory. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Josh Homme was previously in a band called Kyuss that's often creditied with inventing the genre. I've oft recommended Kyuss's Gardenia on here; killer groove on that one.

Ahh, I wish you'd done Song for the Deaf. Good video though. QotSA were formed by Josh Homme following the dissolution of an absolutely amazing band called Kyuss, who you need to listen to. Before you get to them though, you gotta hear Sleep - Holy Mountain
Awesome choice, Songs for the Deaf is one of the greatest alternative rock albums ever made IMO. You could honestly do the whole album and it would be fire, but just I would like to give some love to First it Giveth, not one of the most talked about songs, but it has an amazing groove.

Yes to both of those!
So proud of you guys! Glad I've seen yall since beginning with just thousands of subscribers...now a million! Congratulations
Just so you know. The album is about all the songs youd hear on the radio on a journey like a car ride. So between each song is a sort of commercial or a bit from different radio stations talking about things where they are in the country. So between a couple of songs you have the west coast style LA where it's big clear channel then you have the Spanish parts because of how much Hispanic Influences are in the west coast and desert. So between every song they have those little bits. Only 2 are in spanish
‘Songs for the Deaf’ is concept album that takes the listener on a drive from LA to Joshua Tree, CA. So between most tracks there’s a radio DJ that intros the next song.
One of the coolest basslines out there. The tone the tuning the groove is killer. I recommend a song called Better Living Through Chemistry
I've been watching you for 5 years now. Love your channel. This is my favorite band and this and go with the flow are their most radio friendly songs. They have a vast WEIRD catalog and it's all amazing. Sky is fallings is awesome. Make it witchu is awesome. Tangled up in plaid. Etc. Thanks for playing em. I'm on Patreon keep em going
This album was huge for me in high school, glad to see you guys digging it!
Finally some Queens of the Stone Age, my favorite band of all time! This song kills. Suggestions for (maybe) a next time: Sat by the Ocean (acoustic live) and Song for the Dead
YES YES YES!!! I have waited and begged for any of my favorite reactors to do this song! The fact I just came on here and it was YOU GUYS that did it....This is like opening up a Playstation 5 on Christmas Morning!! You guys are the greatest of all time. LMAO this song is the very first song I kick on when I am sweeping and mopping my floors
Man.... You guys are one of the few react channels that actually read into the music/ lyrics and not only give reaction but feedback and opinions... This is proper content. Keep it up 💯
I think they would of appreciated this even more had they seen the video, just that the video gives SO MUCH empathis to the killer Bass playing & one of Dave Grohls best ever drum solos. Dave is a legendary drum player & ive always thought props to the QotSA usual drummer to step aside n let Dave do this as when u actually pay attention to how dam fast he managed to get it truly imho is one of Rocks most iconic performances. Also the bass playing in this is just killer but then as this was my era maybe I’m biased
I love your reactions in general ESPECIALLY songs that I already know and love
Great reaction as always. You guys crack me up 😂
Dave Grohl on drums. Mark Lanegan from Screaming Trees on vocals, with Josh Homme on lead (now the lead singer). Songs for the Dead is probably the best track on the album and has a very hard intro by Dave Grohl.
I didn't expect you two would ever cover this. It's not even in the range of my favorites, but when I was DJing my "thrash & pop" show for GSP in the 00's & early 10's, this was my go-to filler song. You'd hear it once every show I did, because it's such a good simple break-down in a set. Groovy, fun, catchy, heavy, light, it hits all the bases. And it doesn't draw your attention in too hard, but it also beckons you to keep listening and nodding along. For an alt-rock track, No One Knows is kind of that C+ yard stick by which I grade the curve.
The long awaited QOTSA reaction. Legendary band, been my favorite since I was 12 years old
HELL YEAH! 🤘🏽 Been wanting y’all to react to this band. I definitely hope you guys do more QOTSA, they are tremendous.
an earworm of a riff that digs deep for sure.... the video clip adds to it even more
the face of confusion of both when the outro hit was so worth it lol , so this was a semi concept album , based on the concept of the listener being on a trip to the dessert and the static and wierd noises u listen would be the ones u get while going tru the different stations on the radio . the end of the song is just the radio anouncer stating his name and presenting the next song .
Oh shit, it not caught one of your guys vids ina. Minute but the algorithm knew I needed to see this 👏
OH MY GOD! I've always liked this song, but never known its name nor the band's name! This is like a God-sent gift! Thanks guys!
This entire album is 🔥
Little sister was a big radio hit back in the day, and had the same kind of percussive guitar and sweet chorus.
You guys won't believe this but the singer/ lead guitar was the guitarist for KYUSS...KINGS OF STONER ROCK......also JOSH HOMME , is the guitarist singer for THEM CROOKED VULTURES, with Zeppelins bass player JOHN PAUL JONES and on drums DAVE GROHL from FOO FIGHTERS AND NIRVANA !!!...also the bass player on this song was in KYUSS also.....NICK OLIVIERA....And JOSH HOMME...writes music and is part of ''EAGLES OF DEATH METAL''
This would be a great rabbit hole - Dave Grohl on drums and Josh Homme (the ginger Elvis) on vocals. So great.
There's a gag through the album that makes it seem like flipping through radio stations (which is why I thought your radio comment was awesome). The outro a "radio host" leading you to the next song. Also, Go With The Flow is excellent. I'm going to go find it and listen now. Thanks again, you guys are great.
My fave band of all time!
really hope u guys listen to more of them, this whole album is great!!
GOT to do First It Giveth. My favorite QOTSA song, that shit is definitely metal.
love this....laughed my ASS off.. you got a new subscriber... amazing x
This song was written by Josh Homme about his affair with Brody Dalle (from The Distillers) who at the time was married to Tim Armstrong (from Rancid), she eventually left Tim and Married Josh.
Yesss!!!! glad you finally got to Queens. These guys are super talented. Queens of the Stone Age- Make it Wit U
“I appear missing” AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING!!!🤩
I can tell by the audio quality and video format that this is a couple years old. Maybe include the original date of recording in the description, guys. Love what you guys do. What you bring is 100% original. Never stop killin' it (like how you always do)!!!
QOTSA formed originally with all former Kyuss members and roadies. And on the whole Songs for the Deaf Album they had Ex Nirvana drummer and The mastermind of the Foo Fighters Dave Grohl behind the kit Josh and Dave also worked with John Paul Jones on the ThemCrooked Vultures supergroup and Josh had also appeared on Dave’s Probot side project
I'm a massive fan of QOTSA! Saw them live and it blew my mind. So many good songs of them to cover! Depends on what mood you're in. Right now I'm in a Smooth Sailing mood.
Honestly, you guys should do either an album reaction or review. This album is *chef’s kisses*.
I like that you talk about this song played on radio while driving because i believe this album is one of the best for that purpose
It's funny that you mentioned the song reminds you of tuning into some random radio station, the concept of the album is actually a sort of radio tour across the california desert, with each song loosely representing a different stop.
Go with the flow, is the ultimate driving song! 😃
The music video for this was wild! I loved it. Hilarious and that deer is seared in my mind.
"Little Sister, Mosquito song, Sick sick sick." Thanks guys!
I like Ryan's take on it. It's kind of how I looked at it. Especially in an industry as commercialized and pasteurized as popular music. They had to follow stupid rules that know one really knew why. Did some things they didn't like that stuck in their throats but the payoff was hitting it big (gold). /shrug no one knows...the real meaning of the lyrics.
Qotsa, white stripes, and wolfmother too...they all have that sound. Wolfmother's Joker and the Thief is awesome song.
Hope all is well with you both. I can tell you’re uploading some old videos, and your channel has been stuck at 1.11m for several months. Keep trucking! We love your content.

This has been used on a few adverts over here in England. So I would imagine most people over here would've heard it whether they are into QOTSA or not. Great track regardless. I can't understand how anyone couldn't rock out to this. Thank Mr Grohl for that....
HELLO FROM NEW ENGLAND...DAVE GROHL PLAYED DRUMS ON THIS WHOLE ALBUM
The album concept is supposed to be a trip across the desert, listening to random radio stations - thus the spanish out-tro (supposed to be a DJ) QOTSA (Queens of the Stone Age) are an amazing original band, never the same song twice. BTW Josh Homme (lead singer/guitarist) is from the band Kyuss - he also started the Eagles of Death Metal (HIGHLY Recommend as well) and Them Crooked Vultures.
Excellent choice, guys! Little Sister and Go with the flow(video clip) are other must hear songs of them. Keep it up!
Next one has to be Go with the flow
Thank you for the disclaimer in the beginning
This is my favorite album of all time and I feel like it has a lot to do with me immigrating into Vegas

You should also check out Eagles of Death Metal. It has Josh Homme (lead singer/guitarist from QotSA) on drums with his childhood friend Jesse Hughes on vocals and guitar. Similar overall vibe to QotSA with more of a boogie rock sound. Check out 'I Want You So Hard' for a starting point
"look around, put the windows up" hahahaha 😄
This entire album is amazing. I encourage you guys to listen to the whole thing through at some point, maybe as a video? Or just after you react individually to each song lmao
I do not speak Spanish, but as an avid fan of the album I can tell you the context of the outro. The album is presented as a concept, where the listener is dialing through radio stations of a fictional Los Angeles. The entire album is peppered radio blurbs.
Fuck yeah! Everyone’s gonna be requesting Go With the Flow or Little Sister etc. but I’d love for you to listen to some of their ‘less popular’ songs (amongst casual listeners anyway) such as Someone’s in the Wolf, The Fun Machine Took a Shit and Died, Feet Don’t Fail Me (when that riff kicks in 🤯), Smooth Sailing, Misfit Love, God is in the Radio just to name a few
You guys should check out "I appear missing" or "smooth sailing" by queens. Both songs are amazing. Thanks for reacting to my favorite band!
The fact that the song seems to apply equally to religion and drug use speaks volumes, doesn't it? I think this was a fascinating take that I'd never considered. Most adherents don't follow EVERY teaching, right? Some of them stick in the throat to varying degrees, don't they? Anyway, thanks for the effort, gentlemen. Sincerely. P. S. In response to the "my family is from" and "I should", I was a 22 year old white kid living at Lampson & Magnolia in 1992. My neighbor was my age and a citizen but, he was the only citizen in his family that was living in CA. It got really fkn hot at one period and my neighbor's family asked us to join them at an area bar for some air conditioning and margaritas. Point is, the white kid knew more Spanish than his neighbor and had to tell him when they were talking shit about him. One of the best times I ever when I had been surrounded by people I could barely understand. His family paid my tab because I spoke more Spanish than any of them knew English so, they considered me the funniest interpreter they'd ever had. Chest thumping pride ensued.
QotSA at last! How did I not watch this before? Never clicked so fast in my life...
One of the greatest album i've heard,Saw them live in roskilde 03 and and it was mindblowing
Fun fact. That's Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters and Nirvana on the drums.
just love your thing guys you're great..'Little sister' is another cool song of Queens, but I'm pretty sure that you guys will really love the classic 'In The Fade'
George is a little bit early on QOTSA, they didn't really get much mainstream attention until this album and that was 2002. Surprised there wasn't more praise of the drumming. Dave Grohl played drums on this album, and I love his unique fills and beats on the whole album (Go With the Flow and First It Giveth are other great examples). And you guys definitely picked up on the "vibe". QOTSA are often categorized as "Stoner rock".
The concept of the whole album was that it would represent a bunch of shit you’d hear flipping through the radio stations out in palm desert (where they’re from). That Spanish outro was supposed to be one of the stations that you’d come across. If you listen to other songs on that album you’ll come across a lot of instances of that, it kinda ties the whole album together
The Spanish at the end is because the record is a concept album and it has skits of a guy starting the car in the beginning changing channels between each song.
“The Way You Used To Do” by Queens of the Stone Age is the other fav of mine by them :)
If you play this cd all the way through, it plays like a drive from LA to Joshua Tree, with the driver changing stations in between songs
Gonna be a ton of comments saying this, Dave Grohl is a goddamn beast. He has the musical version of midas touch.
@ericacord5965
2 жыл бұрын
Just my opinion but Dave is sort of the musical elder statesman of gex x. Sort of like Paul from the Beatles.
Man, the thing about the radio is so accurate ‘cause the album was record as you’re listening the radio crossing the desert !
Finally! I thought you'd never react to QotSA. Love em so much
I love you guys. You keep an open mind about music, and I appreciate that so much. One request - you gotta hear Celtic Frost's cover of 'In the Chapel in the Moonlight.' I'd avoid 'Mexican Radio'. They didn't do Wall of Voodoo justice.
