Queens of the Stone Age - 18 A.D.

Музыка

Rare QOTSA song
Very Kyuss-ish.
The very first song done under the "Queens of the Stone Age" band name.
Released on the "Burn One Up" compilation.
Lyrics:
There is no yesterday
There is no tomorrow
Hello, did you miss me
Another word
As far as you know
Over and over
Clear and forgotten
Over and over
Over and over
There is no tomorrow
There is no tomorrow
Enjoy ;)

The bass player for this song is Milo Beenhakker. Together with Eva Nahon they formed the rhythm section in Beaver. They were asked by Josh for this song, first song ever released under the QOTSA name. It was released on the compilation album "Burn one up".

Bought this album the day it came out. QOTSA, Fu Manchu, Karma to Burn, Sleep, Acrimony, Beaver. This was the birth of the term "stonerrock" because of the album said "Music for Stoners" right on the cover. I wasn't a "stoner", but I loved Kyuss and wanted to hear more music like it. The album was an amazing corroboration of awesome underground bands.

A lot of early QotSA & Late Kyuss b-sides were released on Frank Kozik’s Man’s Ruin Records label, which went under and hasn’t given spotify permission to upload it. Beaver/13eaver, the Dutch stoner band that Queens recorded this song with, also was signed to Man’s Ruin, and I believe the beaver guys owned some of the publishing rights to the song.

I like to think this song is about suicide. "There is no yesterday, there is no tomorrow." Then I hear the words as "Can't look, can't speak, another word." And then, "As far as you know, " would imply things about after death (heaven, hell, the void, etc.). "Over and over," would be the contemplation of suicide and finally, "Clear and forgotten." That's how you feel it would be. Forgotten but for a while a terribly clear conundrum in peoples lives. Anyways, what do you think?

I understand that Queens of the Stone Age really means a literally evocation to Ishra, Inanna and others Goddess from the Mesopotamia and Mid West in the Stone Age, where the use Cannabis for the rituals and stay in contact whit God. So is more literally of what we think...

no sir. you are right, the last two albums sounded differrent compared to the older ones, but they still have the good old quality that we are all used to and love about qotsa. every band changes its sounds over the years and plays with its music to find new ways to express itself. but that is not a bad thing. and beefbourito is right, this sounds very similar to kyuss, which is great.

Love the big mean truck. American badass is coming down the road whether you like it or not. But it not just American, it's everyone. It's so awesome that the sound has gone global. I wish America would embrace this style of music like Europeans and South Americans do. Makes me sick and ashamed that the best band in the USA is more supported in Europe that it is in the USA. The sheep want more Timberlake and JayZ. I want more QOTSA.
