As we gather to induct Queen Victoria School prefects 2024, we recognize the importance of leadership in shaping the future of this school and our ultimately, the future of our nation. The role of a prefect is not merely one of authority but of service and responsibility. Prefects are entrusted with the task of upholding the values of integrity, compassion and excellence that defines Queen Victoria School.
Two days ago, I spoke at the Prefects induction of Gospel High School, and I said to them - The badge you will be entrusted today will tell us who you really are! For indeed badges and positions give us power and power always reveal the heart of a man. An American lawyer, who became a politician, who became a statesman and later became the 16th President of the United States once said that “nearly all men can withstand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power’.
The badge you will be entrusted today will give you power and when you have power, your teachers and students will get to know who you really are.
