gents i give you the genius called Sir Dr Brian May PhD who wrote this after a dream, His guitar (the red special) was down tuned to D to give it the dreary tone. one of Queens rarest gems

Rian May is a straight up genius. Built his own guitar, plays some of the best licks and is an Astrophysicist. He does the same kind of solo in every show and it’s from the song Brighton Rock. First track third album and it’s crazy. Freddie’s range and Brian’s delayed guitar effect solo. Freddie took that delay effect and put it on the vocals.

The thing with Queen is the hidden gems are better than the hits.

Brian penned this masterpiece after a dream he had about the Great Flood. Nods to Noah’s Ark, the white dove 🌿, “two by two my human zoo” .. Love the vocal cannoning technique by Freddie!! You guys should check out FATHER TO SON. Genius! 🐘🐅🦓🦒🐫🐅🦏🐆

Love this song. You said you wish Freddie was in a power metal band? Then you need to listen to their first two albums. Queen were considered metal back when metal was just being established!

If you have watched the Queen shows on video you will notice that when Brian plays his solo he uses a delay pedal. That sounds just like the Prophets Song, only they do it with voices here but it is the same concept. The modulations are clever, though.

Most of Queen's best song where never hits! They where just ahead of their time and not very suitable for radio, which was very important back then.

Brian worked so hard on this song. I don’t think he is under appreciated. You should read how this was made. They had to run tape over chairs to create the sound. You don’t hear most of their fabulous songs. You should do a whole album. You will be very surprise. Listen to their first 2 albums. You will be very surprised.

Bought my first Queen record back in 1976 and been a life long fan since. Queen in the 70s was different gravy. Their debut album was hard rock and heavy metal, "Queen II" progmetal and rock, With "Sheer Heart Attack" they branched out and added vaudeville and pop to the hard hitters, "A Night at the opera" is all over the place stylistically prog, metal, 20s jazz, ballads, mock opera - you name it, and yet miraculously sounds coherent as an album, "A Day at the races" had similar feel as its predecessor, albeit with a somewhat simpler approach - still fantastic though. "News of the world" was much more stripped down and raw sounding - even featuring a pure punk song in taylor's blistering sheer heart attack. "Jazz" featured shorter tunes but it is great fun - and yes, they still hit you in the face with their take on heavyrock with let me entertain you and dead on time. Then, followed a decade of albums that I don't particularly care for - they went totally astray with Hot space for example. However, their swan song; innuendo is a truly great album - has this 70s Queen feel to it. Although Queen is most famous for their singles, I look at them as an ALBUM's band. Their first 7 albums or so - AND Innuendo - are just so coherent - one song logically leads to the next - often in the form of medleys and these albums should be listened to as one big suite rather than "song by song".

You mentioned the Radio which was super important. You may or may not know, a DJ (Kenny Everett) loved Bohemian Rhapsody and insisted on playing it several times, despite the bosses not liking it for being too long. I think they probably couldn't get away with pulling that trick twice, especially from the same album, hence very few people heard about it, unless they bought the album.

Roger's high range is best shown on My Fairy King.. Brian's introduction to the world of speed metal is best shown on Stone Cold Crazy or Brighton Rock .. Freddie's vocals growl is best shown on Gimme the Prize.. Deacy's bass playing is best shown on Dragon Attack.. PS , Prophets Song is my favourite Queen track, great reaction

Great reaction guys!! This is the track I use to show that Queen went progressive (to those that debate me) - AND heavy - almost metal (but I have other examples of that too!) Such a dynamic, varied and epic sound throughout! Distinctly remember when I bought this CD, and heard this for the first time...shocked was an understatement! If you think that Freddie should've been in a power metal band? Then you need to listen to their first two albums! Songs like Son & Daughter, Ogre Battle, Stone Cold Crazy (off their third - and I'd debate that this track borders on thrash metal! Heck, Metallica covered it years later!) Queen could do heavy, and do it superbly! Check it out. Cheers.

Remember this was pre digital so the vocals had to be done again and again. Also Freddie didnt write this. He didnt write a lot of their hits. Radio GaGa, You're my best friend, I want to break free and Another one bites the dust to name a few.

Keep going backwards on the Queen discography. You want power metal - they fricking invented it. Queen II will destroy you.
