    my friend witnessed people swept out by a wave and the grandfather died rescuing family members. know your surf prediction , go only when flat to one foot. go only when the tide is low. go only may to september after checking out surf and tide. parking is VERY limited and wet trail is very slippery. that being said it is SO beautiful there and sacred. be respectful.

    I've been there. It's a hike to get there through a small rain forest; no charge. The only way you find out about it is from the locals. It's NOT a tourist attraction because it can be very dangerious. As you see from the video, you can't stay too long because once the tide starts to rise, you can get swept out to sea. I was bitten by tiny crab but no harm done. It really is that beautiful.

    When I went, I went swimming in the pool of water and there were so many crabs on the rocks it was a bit scary to find a way to get out! It was beautiful though, and you can enjoy the view of the tides and the turtles below from a nice perch on the rocks.

    Christopher Waite of Kilauea.... As an EMS worker, the call to respond to Queen’s Bath occurs far too often. Extremity fractures, head injuries, life-long debilitating spinal injuries, heat exhaustion, heart attacks and death by drowning occur at an alarming rate. Extrications of injured people are extremely difficult and hazardous to rescue personnel.

    Noel-The She-Male i didn’t understand how waves worked. I though all they did was push you away from wherever you were. I neglected to advise that waves pull you back too. I was pretty close to the edge after having jumped in, and a mediocre wave came crashing in. It wasn’t a big deal at first, all I did was hold my place, and when it stopped, I relaxed. Then the wave began to retreat and started to pull me before I knew what was happening. When I finally realized what was happening, I was at the edge and bracing my self against the rocks, so it wouldn’t pull me out to sea. I got banged up pretty bad, and thankfully I only walked away with a mild concussion. Rarely do people die in Queens bath, they drown when it sucks them out to sea. That day I learned I will never be stronger than the pacific ocean.

    Jackson Cude so it’s the current that pulls you out to sea that kills... That current must take people down deep before they even know what’s happening? I swam at Waimea bay once when it was calm...there is a mean current at that beach pull you out.

    One other thing, it is EXPENSIVE to live there. Most jobs, including schoolteaching, don't pay enough to live on. Most everything comes in by boat, or airplane. Local produce & diary is about it. Ecuador is it's own paradise, and it is very inexpensive. They use U.S. dollars, too.

    I promise you this, avoid the big island and go straight to Maui then Kauai or vice-versa. The best and most beautiful sites to see are there. From Waiamea Canyon(Think Grand Canyon but all lush and green) to The Road to Hana. If I go back I will only visit those 2 islands.

  • @RedroomStudios

    @RedroomStudios

    9 жыл бұрын

    xraeddie I think Maui is a bit over rated in a lot of ways. it's crowded with tourists and it can take a long time to get anywhere if you want to see different parts of the island. all the resorts on the upper and lower west coasts are a fake man made tropical paradise as they are built on otherwise dry and barren hillsides on the leeward side of the island. I did like the north shore as it was more naturally tropical (we stayed in Haiku) as well as Upcountry with it's temperate weather. I suppose it depends on which sort of vacation you are looking for. the great thing about Big Island is the road and highway system there is modern and efficient and you hardly have to deal with any traffic hold ups. of course your distances getting to different areas are long and the scenery can be depressingly boring in some parts. We stayed on the Kohala Ranch property about 2000 ft above sea level with expansive 360 degree views so that was certainly memorable. I would go back to any of the 4 main islands again and I even hope to add Lanai and Molokai at some point. Kauai is certainly my favourite and fits what most people envision a tropical island to be. we are going again the first 2 weeks of April... can't wait!

    Hawaiian instrumental (music) would have made this video more pleasing. There are many beautitful instrumentals....Ozzy Kotani, Keola Beamer. I visited this place three years ago. One of the best places to go when in Kauai.

    Go to Papaya's, Hoku and Kojima Market to start (all in Kapaa). There are a few choice spots in Kilauea and Hanalei (N Shore) + one in Lihue.

    I take it this is a place that is nice to visit under the right conditions? It looks so lovely, but lovely and dangerous can and do co-exist I guess.

    couldnt they place anchored "Bell Bouey's" outside the pool to warn people when the Tide shift enters? I hear that the pool, though very beautiful, can be quite dangerous when those tides enter.

    that would completely ruin the natural beauty of the place! you simply have to observe what is going on around you. the only part that is dangerous is the one pool that is always open to the surf.

    Ahhh. Or...being an Artist you could make realistic seals that head bob in the water. Therefore keeping a safe but aesthetically pleasing environment.

    The video contrasts the Queen's Bath area during stormy and calmer seas (Mar 22 and Mar 26 2010). Forecast surf heights 4-6ft vs 12-15ft.
