Queen rides new carriage made from Isaac Newton's apple tree

The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, travelled to the State Opening of Parliament in a new state carriage that celebrates hundreds of years of the United Kingdom's history. The Diamond Jubilee state coach is made from fragments of priceless historic artifacts, including Henry VIII's warship the Mary Rose, Sir Isaac Newton's apple tree, and Westminster Abbey. This footage shows the carriage leaving Buckingham Palace on the 4th June 2014, bound for the Houses of Parliament where the Queen was due to deliver her annual speech setting out the government's agenda for the coming year.

As an engineer I approve. Unlike that Georgian gilded monstrosity, this one has the finest in traditional carriage suspension. It looks like double elliptical springs between the running gear and the undercarriage, combined with the carriage being suspended from leather straps. There are also some other connections between the carriage and undercarriage that must be for location. Can we call it a 4 link suspension? Since both the monarch and the heir apparent are of a certain age, it seems appropriate to make the mandatory rituals a little less painful. I think one of the British car shows should do a road test of the two coaches I mentioned. Probably just around the Palace gardens, or wherever they practice driving those things. Perhaps for April 1.

This is an impressive gift from Australia. Really fitting and the finest craftsmanship of an expert carriage maker. All down to the finest details, practical with the modern elements for comfort whilst adding in historic prices of wood to link to history and going with a beautiful classic carriage shape and outer design The Queen must really appreciate this gift, especially the great suspension. Probably her favourite carriage now. All gifts to the queen should be as carefully thought through as this.
