Hi, have been watch your queen rearing videos this spring. My son and I have been keeping bees since 2016, decided to try queens this spring. Grafted 34, got 15 viable cells and ended up with 10 beautiful queens. We are so pleased. Thank you for being such a good teacher.

Makes me want to start the queen rearing season!

I done made some this year, can't wait to make more.

I started 4 hives with 3 pound packages last year. They wintered well here in Minnesota. I was considering doing walk away splits but thanks to your queen rearing series I just might try raising my own queen's .

Started grafting 2 days ago for our very first try. We are having a family competition to see who is a better grafter! We was told that women are better grafters so we will see.

Really good job on that, I am still wanting to get into beekeeping and I think your videos make me want to do it more.

Watched all your videos and I don’t think you have addressed this much and would love to see how you handle things, especially this time of year as we are all getting into the honey season. How do you harvest honey supers, get the bees out, your honey harvest process, and those related items. Would be interesting to see and I’m sure many 2nd year bee keepers that are not sure what to do would benefit. Love you videos, keeps me motivated.

Hi Common Reynolds It's nice that you shared your knowledge with others. I usually make queens with a Chinese stick but this year I have a new problem with my eyes, I can't transplant. I am looking for another method of raising queens do you know or have any idea. One of my solutions is to find the queen remove her from the hive. Then force them to raise a new queen for them selfes. If a few don't raising , we can move between hives. Most beehives are good, so there is no problem to moving between hives. Nicot system is pure garbage

Corey Matheson ...it’s not as easy as he makes it, I tried doing queens and wasn’t good. My queen cell cups were ripped down , I may have done something wrong so don’t be deterred. The only way we can get better is to keep trying so if things don’t work , keep trying , may failure is not going to be yours . Just letting you know there’s a lot more than you think that plays the part to make it happen. Maybe I’m slow I don’t know but give it a go , I wish you well , let us know how it goes. 👍

Did you say how long you waited to drop the grafts in? I just did my first graft and I sucked they only took 6 of 22 because their focus was on the emergency cells on the frames. You rock Kamon and Laurel!

So with the dry grafting method you don't need alot of royal jelly? It's just basically transplanting the larvae into the plastic cell and the queens will do the rest?

Hi Kamon, I love the queen rearing videos you put out. I want to try making a few queens this year myself. I plan to try and graft and if all else fails in goes a frame with eggs lol. I have a BeeWeaver queen coming to I know you didn't like them but I was going to try and graft from her maybe if she makes gentle bees lol i hope. I also have a hive with some come non jumpy bees I want to try and clone - I think the original was a VSH carni but lost her to a swarm I think weeks ago while at work. :( ******* I just want to try grafting if not just once to know that I can do it, even just one bar.

Hey JP thanks for the comment. Just cause I don't like Beeweaver doesn't mean they are no good for sure. Many times after one bad experience many of us make up our minds and that is the end of it. If she is good she is good. :-) I am confident you can graft. Best of luck this year!

Seems like a good take to me, especially being dry when grafted. What is your thought on putting the cups in empty for a few days prior? I read the Essential for Queen Rearing, and I very much liked the builder rather than the starter and finisher. If my cups hadn't been on back order due to you grabbing up all the amber cups, I was going to try a few this year. I want to be able to make 10 or so each year for my size yard. These videos have been really good and backed up the book. Thanks. And don't listen to any comments from people that might mention that I might have said something about you ordering all the cups in one of my videos. All lies!

Hi Kamon. Great video series on queen rearing. I’ve learned a lot and have my first starter finisher colony going now. Have you ever tried storing the royal jelly for use later on?

I'm getting four 5 frame nucs this weekend. I was thinking of splitting two of the five frame nucs down to 2 frame nucs and add mated queens to each of the mini splits. What are your thoughts on that? Understanding that I will need to feed all of them due to lack of resources from the original nucs.

Going to take my 1st go at graphic this weekend. My question is What is the Avantage of having a Queen right colony finish the cells vs Having the builder finish them or incubator. Thank you

Nice! 👍 Are you feeding syrup to any of your hives or starters? That frost really cut back the nectar flow in our area. We went from seeing decent amounts of uncapped nectar to almost none. They are feeding on the Ultra Bee and Healthy Bee patties nicely but unless the blackberries go into full bloom pretty quick, we may have to feed a little syrup. Thankfully we have about 20 acres of clover that is coming in like a green carpet that I hope will fill in for the loss of the poplar and black locust trees frost damaged. I just built 10 wax dipped Canadian style 6 frame nucs like Ian Steppler uses. They are doing well so far. I haven't decided if I want o add a 2nd 6 frame deep box or just let them make honey on a single deep.

Kamon, have you ever placed one bar of grafted cells and then added a second bar within a couple of days? I was wondering if you got mixed results on the first graft if you could supplement to increase the number of successfully grafted cells.

Great videos, I tried the grafting and queen excluder and all the bees did was draw out comb in a 2 deep finisher. Can the scent of the old queen throw off the bees to finish cell cups.

I keep my bars in same box till capped. Once capped they go into a cell holder in a incubation unit till day i set into a 6 frame nuke

Yesterday where I live the high was 40 degrees 😢and we haven’t had a 60 degree day yet.

Bees hate artificial bee brushes. So I grab some grass and tape one end together, and use the other end as a natural brush. Bees accept this.

Hey kamon. If I was to put my grafts into a busting starter finisher nuc. When all the cells are capped could you put roller cages on all the cells and let them all hatch into the rollers and then just take them out for your apideas? Is this possible do you think? Regards phil

Kamon I have some deeps and supers with drawn comb I’ve been storing over winter. I have para moth crystals in them and they are covered. How long do I need to let them air out before I use them.

I don’t have trouble making the queens I can get them to grow. I can get them to draw them out and then I put them in my incubator and I get them to hatch the problem I’m having is having them come back matedI don’t know how to and back into their hive

if you put half distilled water and half royal jelly into the queen cups then insert the larvae, how does it stay inside the queen cup when you place it upside down into the hive?

Maybe discuss what mic and camera you use?

I kind of though you might have chilled the eggs too much during your previous grafting video...poorer results on lower bar, which you acknowledged here in this video. Hello kamon I live in central NC . I was planning to do some practice in grafting queen’s . How long do you think I can have that frame out of the hive . Say the temperature is around 85 give or take . With out getting it to cold an damage to it so I can put it back in the hive . Thanks for all your help and information.

Kamon off topic. What do you do with the sugar water that gets stored in the hive, in your recent video you made a comment about sugar water and nectar. What do you do with the sugar water that gets mixed in ? I’m in my second year, and try not to feed much because of messing up the natural honey? Can you explain to me please? Thank You

I've looked on your playlist and can't find what I'm looking for. I'm wanting some information on how to overwinter a nuc colony. If you have made a video can you point me in the right direction or if you have not, will you do a video well before winter? I'm trying to replinish my decimated apiary. So I'm concentrating on making colonies and not concerned with collecting honey right now. And I'm trying to do this without spending a ton of money on buying bees.

Kamon, how are you determining which queens to graft from in this series?

What would happen if you put one of these queen rearing frames inside of the top box of a double tall hive with a queen excluder between the boxes? Would the bees still make these cells? Or not because of the existing queen?

Kamon, thank you for this video. But when you make a finisher, heavily populated, should I be worried about swarming? You’ve got a heavy population, lots of resources and queen cells... what am I missing here? During the 10-day period, do they have time to put the queen “on a diet” so she can fly away? Keep up the good work!

Your missing that they are just Finishing a cell because it's there, just like a job..they are above excluder...plus the hive isn't in Swarm spirit or preparation,it's just a cell needs finished, nothing more they just seeing cell needs finished,not cap this and let's go

So I have a question for ya. I'm new to using the nicot system. So after the queen layed hers eggs in the cells, I harvested the eggs and placed the cells with eggs in a queenless hive stocked with nurse bees But they just remove the eggs and cleaned the cells out again. I did condition the cells and equipment first. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? The one hive was a new package installation with no queen or larvae. The other hive I tried with had a queen in bottom box with queen excluder on place a frame of capped brood next to cells but again the same thing, the removed the eggs and cleaned them????

I am not very familiar with he nicot system but likely you need to wait till the eggs have turned in larvae before you transfer. Make sure the larvae doesn't get to old.

How do you judge the good cells from the inferior cells? In general?

I am a newbie. Is the starter colony supposed to have a queen and what about the finisher hive. Can I just put the queen cells on the super where there is no queen? I told you I am a newbie sorry.

I am seeing a new queen laying eggs that are on one edge of the bottom of the cells, and also laying down. What am I looking at?

I hope to one day. Right now we are selling queens but they are pick-up only or dozens shipped at a time. Hope you are doing well One Shoo 😀

So what do you do it you only need 4 or 5 queens a year? And once you get yourqueen, what do you do with the box you made for reering?

I would personally still do this method I just would try to raise 10 queen cells and if you only get half to work out then you are good to go still. Once you are done with queen rearing just place a queen cell or queen into this queen rearing nuc and they will take off fast!

10 days after the graft when the cells are ready to be moved into a finisher if I only want to make one batch of queens what would I put in the that nuc that I am going to put the cells into.

if you are done with the grafting (starter) box then leave one if the queen cells in it.

What do you think of Saskatraz queens? Can you graft off Saskatraz queens and convert Italian Russian hives to Sasakatraz?

Got bees Sunday eve. Checked monday..queen still in cage. Checked yesterday TWICE. Couldn't find her! Checked early this am. Found her but she looks like she's hurt possibly. She was under the slated rack w a bunch of bees. Should I go ahead and replace her? I wonder as robbing was horrid first day n half of yesterday. and fear she got injured in the Malay. Would robbers try to hurt her? I am just..ughhh..and I have ONE HIVE...lol.

Hi. Is it possible to go even lower? Can i make a starter with only 3 frames of bees? Use it for only 2 queen ceels that i leave to hatch out there. I have bees from last year and now its first time i try to multiply them. Because of my day job i will not have time to take the cels out at day 10 and make new colonies so i think about this methot. What do u think?

Some use different colors to separate different genetic lines. I personally like the light green-yellow so I can see into them better

Are you leaving you starter/finisher entrance open? I thought one could shake a lot of bees and leaving the entrance open the field bees would just leave

They are over 4 days old when we graft. Graft day is day 1, the 10th day the cells go into mating nucs
