They were recording this song and they were going on and on and he was just joking around while recording his vocal track. They decided during the mix to leave that last "fried chicken" line just to have a laugh. Not dismissing the gravity of the songs overall message; UNITY

@@theresanaber6955 They wrote it originally whilst ad libbing for a laugh but planned to end with 'One Vision' really. But yep, Jim thought it was funny and encouraged them to keep it in but Freddie wasn't sure in case it devalued the seriousness of the meaning of the song. Jim assured him if anyone has the guts to keep that in, Freddie does. So they did.

Legend has it that when they where writing and recording the song, they where having problems making it rhyme and make sense. Well in order to get it all to fit, they used foods to make it work, and us Brits have a sense of humour they kept fried chicken in at the end!

The documentary on the making of "One Vision" is really interesting showing the creative process in the studio, including all the discussion on the lyrics.Some interesting alternatives were sung!!! Roger said "that rotter Freddie changed my words!" 😂😂😂

This whole album “Kind of Magic” is pure gold and my favorite album of theirs In general.

"One Vision" is from the "A Kind of Magic" album, which is the unofficial soundtrack album for the movie "Highlander." Funny thing is though, "One Vision" is one of three songs from the album that were not used in "Highlander!" Instead it was used in the film "Iron Eagle" which was released a year after "Highlander." The "fried chicken" line was made up by Freddie Mercury during recording. He like to make up joke lines during recordings and for whatever reason they decided to leave this one in.

Freddie Mercury had a degree in Graphic Design John Deacon and Roger Taylor also have degrees, one has a degree in dentistry and I don't know what the other person has a degree in, I also don't recall who between Roger and John has the dentistry degree or whatever other field of study

Yes there was a Documentary to this, Nice that you noticed. The Documentary is on the Official Queen channel you can check it out too! The Lyrics to this song were inspired by Martin Luther King's Speech. This is written by Roger Taylor (The Drummer). Yes Freddie said Fried Chicken, if you watch the Documentary you'll understand why they left that Joke in. Freddie would freestyle with joke words. Roger has written the last Word as GIMME ONE VISION. Freddie had the Idea to change it just as a joke and they all agreed because why not? 😂 Awesome Reaction.

"Fried chicken" were the words that just fit in that space at that time. They were going to change it later but decided to leave it in. "Yesterday" by the Beatles started out as "scrambled eggs."

Jamel_AKA_Jamal the odd vocalization is altered sayings of “God works in Mysterious Ways, Mysterious ways”. At the end, Roger Taylor, the drummer said Freddie couldn’t come up with anything that made any sense or went with the mysterious ways vocalizing, so he just ad libbed Fried Chicken.

I was just waiting for your reaction when they shout "Fried Chicken!" at the end, because the message in the song all the way through is a heartfelt serious one about the world and then that joke lyric is thrown in the end. All I can say is you did not disappoint. It was the best.

Yep, Fried Chicken...I have seen Queen (with Freddie) about six or seven times...the entire stadium would yell it out. A Queen concert was all about singing. They were pioneers of the sing a long concert. 90+ minutes of a stadium full, standing up, dancing and singing their hearts out.

One of my favorite Queen songs....But almost every song is one of my favorite Queen songs.

Gotta give them shoulders a break! Yes, that's Roger Taylor for you, one of the best and most under-rated drummers in rock. They really took advantage of Musicland's extra-bright center room--the drums just bark out like cannon fire. That was the same room that John Bonham of Led Zeppelin took advantage of to record his epic work on Led Zep's "Presence" album.

"For the love of music!" Right on, J. If you liked this song, watch the 80s movie Iron Eagle... they use this in the movie. I always see jets flying when I hear it.

The “fried chicken” part was thought up by Freddie’s partner Jim Hutton who he was with for 7 years right up to his death. Apparently, they were watching tv one night and Jim said to Freddie he should sing Fried Chicken for him as a laugh at the end of the new song instead of One Vision. Freddie being Freddie decided that’s what he would do and that’s all the story is behind Fried Chickengate 🙏🏻❤️🇬🇧 stay safe from the U.K.

@@melissap1575 ummmm actually NO, They did the entire soundtrack to HIGHLANDER then were asked by Russell Mulcahy to write the soundtrack for HIGHLANDER 2 THE QUICKENING. But at that time Freddie was getting more sick so he used songs from the 1986 album and a few Queen wrote SPECIFICALLY for the movie. The movie was released in november 1991 while freddie sadly succumbed to AIDS November 1991 but made a video for the song. It was originally written for first movie but was rejected

Songfacts: Queen was inspired to write this by their Live Aid appearance in 1985 - millions of people sharing one vision of a better world. When the band was approached to perform at Live Aid, they were in a rut and reticent to appear. But after their show-stopping performance, they re-entered the studio with renewed energy. They were back in Munich (a place they had previously hit trouble during the Hot Space sessions), but this time spent a lot of time working in the studio, not being distracted by drugs or other distractions - unlike the earlier sessions.

One of my favorite top 5 songs from Freddy and the gang. Was a treat for the wife and I to see you react to seeing an hearing it finally Jamel. Best Wishes.

you are completely correct Jamal, this footage was includeded as part of a docu-special called "the Magic Years" which included footage of them writing and recording this song in their Montreux studio..

During the time they were recording One Vision, Freddie, Roger, and Brian were rewriting the lyrics in the studio (John was late getting to the studio because he was on holiday with his family). Roger originally wrote the song and based it on Martin Luther King but then the group got a hold of it (especially "that rotter, Freddie", as Roger said) and changed the lyrics a bit. (Yes, there is a documentary on the Making of One Vision). At one point, they got kind silly with the lyrics. Freddie actually recorded "One dump, two turds, two tits, John Deacon" as one of the lyrics. I guess they got kind of hungry because they threw in some food lyrics also. Freddie's partner, Jim Hutton was there watching and he pointed out that "Fried Chicken" had the same rhythm as "One Vision", so as a lark Freddie sang that on one track. Later, when they began mixing the tracks to actually produce the song, they worried that the song sounded too serious and heavy, so Freddie suggested they lighten the ending of the song by using the "Fried Chicken" line. ( It is a hallmark of Queen songs to have a bit of a hook at the end of their songs.) It always makes people smile.

I was in We Will Rock You (Queen musical) in school and this is the one song without fail that takes me back to performing and all the hours we spent practicing this dance number

Freddie was working on finishing the song and was just tired of searching for the right words. He said he felt like putting " Fried Chicken" at the end, but probably ought to change it. Not sure who but, someone responded you're "Freddie Mercury" you can end the song however you please. So, he did! FRIED CHICKEN When I reflect on it, (One Vision) who doesn't like fried chicken? Even in the 2018 movie, "Green Book," the actor Mahershala Ali's character, Dr. Donald Shirley, is introduced to eating fried chicken, with his hands, by his driver, actor Viggo Mortensen, who plays Tony Lip. Great Movie, Jamel. It surely gets our attention!

This is my FAVORITE Queen song so I went looking for reactions and was really excited to see you had done it! You loved it as much as I do, and it was awesome watching you get into it. I love the message behind the song and have come to discover that most of my favorite Queen songs were written by Roger (lyrically at least). I’m sure many others explained the meaning by now, so I won’t bore you. But that fried chicken part! The first time I heard it I was thrown off too, swore I was hearing it wrong. Many years later the Internet confirmed it for me and it cracks me up every time I hear it. Still a fantastic song.

Queen was such a great band that just plain made great music without care of fitting into sound or style. They were just as comfortable making a great hard rock/metal song like this as they were making an R&B song like 'Another One Bites the Dust'.

Lead off song for their 1986 Wembley concert. Give it a watch sometime. Shows the power of Freddie and Queen.

You can blame Freddie’s husband Jim Hutton for the “fried chicken” line. He told Freddie to use it in the song as a joke & Freddie took him seriously! 😂 You should really check out the documentary, which is basically them showing how they went about writing the song and footage from that was used to create this music video.

Freddie Mercury was a man of many visions and yet even while he was sick with the aids virus he would never disappoint his fans. He delivered the goods every single time. Incredible timing and range. He can sing subtle and make you feel what he wants you to or like this song,the raw power of his range yet giving you that energy.

Queen; There can only be one! They have an incredible library of music. I love all their music, my fave is Khashoggi’s Ship. Yeah he went to a party on his ship and wrote a song about it.
