I was shocked at how slow Now I'm Here was at first. They started to speed up songs later live because they thought it was more exciting. Montreal '81 everything is at warp speed. 😂I heard that Freddie learned to sing from listening to Jimi Hendrix and Liza Minelli from the Cabaret musical. Ogre Battle is one of his fantasy world of Rhye songs. On the first 3 albums there are several songs referencing Rhye. He made up the world for his sister. 50s artists like Little Richard were big influences but they were never blues orientated. I love that you are reacting to the whole concert! I love 70s Queen and this is a great concert.

I've only ever seen bits of this concert. Great! Love the way you keep replacing your favourites along the way of Queen discovery. The plain truth is we end up loving and appreciating all of their songs from beginning to end and are left to marvel at their diversity and evolution, especially Freddie's. Keep it going, Rory.

Your right to say "Ogre battle" is definitely a song that has early 70's all over !! Tolkien inspired like some Led Zeppelin songs from same era. Freddie wrote this on his guitar in 1971 according to Brian May , so is unusual for that and one of Queen's heaviest songs

Good we're at the Rainbow! I've read older brother Freddie would make up stories for his little sister, I easily feel Ogre Battle lyrics came from some of those...plus his I heard his Mom say he warned her not to throw away any notes she found under his pillow. Together with their instrumental creations while jamming ---Freddie being a sponge learning and applying art from his surroundings we have this Queen track.

Fuc**n deadly! Back in the 70's, cinema's used to show real bad documentaries before the main film and never advertised. You'd make out with the girlfriend or arrive half hr late. Went to see Jaws and this came on before it, ... I was glued to it and knew most of the songs but never heard them live. It was a really good memory. What girlfriend? She was really pissed as I'd forgotten she was there. lol Queen, every member had a hit and they were the first group to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

They had released their first album in 73. Then two in 74. They were now headling uk. And had supported mott hoople in the us but Brian was seriously ill they had to come back but when they toured their 74 sheer heart attack album they headlined the us as well. They had two singles chart seven seas at no 10 then killer Queen at no 2

Thanks for reacting to this wonderful concert, you reactions are always great! It is short but there is also a Queen live at the Rainbow 1974 album, there are a few more songs on there, that either weren't recorded or the footage was lost. You can add those songs as well, they are great songs! Ogre Battle is alike an early power metal, it was released before Rainbow released their first album. The funny thing about the song is that Freddie wrote it on the guitar. According to Brian Freddie strummed the guitar furiously to play this song, because he only played in downstrokes. Of course Now i am here was a concert stable, did you noticed that you also heard it at Wembley 1986? The song became faster and faster through the years, the best version is perhaps, Now I Am Here - Queen live at the Hammersmith Odeon 1979. Freddie grew up with classical influences at boarding school, he also did a few grades of classical piano from a very young age. As you have noted Bohemian Rhapsody has some references directly to opera. The other songs you should add to this concert is: The Great King Rat - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974 See What A Fool I ve Been - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974 (This is a Zeppelin style blues rock song) The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke - Queen live at the Rainbow 1974

Queen also performed "Now I'm Here" at Wembly but they modified the production to make it seem "bigger" since they were playing to a much larger audience. For one thing, they extended the musical interlude which allowed Brian and John to really rock out and also gave Freddie time to run across the entire stage from right to left. Also, since it wasn't performed in a blacked-out theatre, they couldn't do the spotlight bit on Freddie in the intro but the opening was still impressive. BTW - I love the way Freddie ended "Now I'm Here" at Wembley.

Rory , when I first heard Killer Queen/ Flick of the Wrist late 1974 , I became an instant diehard Queen fan , actually my all-time favorite band . I was the ONLY person in my entire school that was public Queen fan , everyone else was Led Zeppelin , Jethro Tull , Stones ,and a few others , everyone knew me as the huge Queen fan , still to this day everyone who knows me knows Queen is my favorite band . My very first concert was Queen Nov 23 1977 @ The Spectrum Philly Pa , Queen also played the following night November 24 1977 @ The Spectrum , Freddie announced & passed away EXACTLY 14 to the day from the first time I saw Queen in person 😥🙂😭A very bittersweet day s for me personally . I also saw Queen two other times ,from the first row in front of John fro the Jazz Tour 78 , and The Hot Space tour , row 4 or 5 ? in front of Brian . A biker dude walked up to the stage and threw a large cup of beer on Freddie who was standing at the front of the stage , Freddie responded something like " Beer ! You could have at least thrown Champagne , I guess that's why they call it PHILTH ADELPHIA ! EVERYONE Cheered Freddie ! 👍

What a difference between Now I’m Here at Wembley and this one. The original was so much slower and with time, in my opinion, Freddie’s voice got better. Brian said in a documentary that Freddie use to study his voice by listening to the replays in the recording studio and then practice adjusting his range and learning how to control his pitch etc. Freddie actually studied videos of Frank Sinatra singing because he had incredible breath control. It’s amazing how he taught himself. Never a voice coach or teacher. This was 1974 and I can even tell a difference between this and when they did Bohemian Rhapsody just a year later. After the Rainbow I would love you to do the Montreal concert 1981. It’s on KZread. I think they will do White Queen sometime during this concert. You should watch the 1975 White Queen live at Hammersmith Oden. It was incredible. A huge difference in just one year. Thanks for becoming a Queen fan. It’s easy to get “hooked”. Their impeccable musicians.

Paul McCartney said in the 80' that Queen was Freddie's voice and Brian's guitar, that's true at first, but Queen is above all a team. Did you notice Freddie's black nail polish and Brian's white nail polish ? Black and white was the concept of Queen II, Freddie was the devil and Brian the angel… Is that make sens to you ?

I noticed Freddie's not Brians though, but that makes sense with why he mentioned "has everyone got there black and white nail polish on" I thought it was just because nail polish etc was just a thing at the time

@@Roryreacts As far I know, it was unusual for men in every day life… there is a famous interview of Freddie in 1984 (kzread.info/dash/bejne/hIplzauIZtiXnbA.html) you can mesure his sincerity and his great sens of humour : « if you want to have a good time » react to it !

I think it should be mentioned that this full sound is accomplished by bass drums and 1 guitar, no rythm to fill the background. But those bass lines are amazing, Deacon never gets enough credit, and being the shy person he is, I think he liked not being in the limelight.

I really like your reactions, Rory, you're so cool... no drama to interfere with the mood, just honest enjoyment on your face! Has anyone recommended that you react to Australian John Farnham singing "You're the voice"? If you hear about this song from others, perhaps you could put it on your list? Don't know if you'll ever read this, but thanks in advance!

YES Let’s Go ✌🏼🔥 I love Baby Queen ( what I call them when they were young ) Love all Queen … every bit from beginning to end but adore early 70’s Queen. I don’t think they were heavily influenced by any band… I think THEY were the influencers to so many bc they were so uniquely original and didn’t give a damn what others said about them or thought about them ( they probably did… they were only human … maybe 😂… but it didn’t stop them from doing their thing ). Thank God❤️ and thank you Rory for reacting to this😘
