There actually was pitch correction back then, just wasn’t widely used until Auto Tune was invented as a real-time pitch correction in the late 90s. Before they had digital real-time plugins, there were studio tricks engineers used. Like Queen, who had fun being experimental in the studio. Or The Beatles.

Might have been used in the studio's back in 85 but im sure it wasn't available for live performances back then. A lot of reverb and compression yes but not autotune or pitch correction, back then you needed raw vocal talent because you had nothing to hide behind and very little to mask a shit voice when you sang live.

I was born in 1944. And when rock 'n' roll hit the scene in the mid-50's, I had no interest in it. It all seemed so childish, or perhaps it was self-centered pubescence. Whatever, I paid very little attention to rock through the 50's and 60's. The Eagles got to me in the 70's, along with some others. But by and large, music for me was the classics and show tunes. Then, in 1985, I was living in Germany teaching English as a Second Language. After a long Saturday morning, I came home eager to enjoy what was left of the weekend. Once I got home, I turned on the little black and white TV I had been lent in hopes of finding something I could understand enough to enjoy. What I came across was the Live Aids broadcast from Wembley Stadium I shrugged and watched. Almost immediately, Queen was on stage. For the next 20 minutes I was glued to my seat, absolutely dumbstruck by Freddie Mercury's performance. In the wake of this extraordinary experience, I learned to appreciate a good deal better just what rock had to offer. My horizons were most happily expanded. And I still think of the Wembley experience and Queen as an epiphany, my own little satori. It's a memory I treasure still and always will.

OK I'm old, I saw Queen live 5 times. Live Aid, to this day it's the largest concert ever held. It was in aid to raise money for the Ethiopian Famine in the early 1980's. At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who I had fought along side in a war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is one of the two worst memories I have. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.

Freddie would then leave the stage and sit in the corner, a very quiet & shy guy he was. This is what blows me away about Freddie. The man wasn't nervous about performing in front of thousands but to get Freddie to walk into a room full of people he didn't know was something he could not do because of his shyness. Unbelievable.

I think one of the most amazing things about this, is that most people gathered, merrily singing Queen songs, were fans of other groups. This was Live Aid, charity, and a lot of people were secretly waiting to see how well Queen would do without a fan base, without flashing lights and theatrics. And they just went in there, ruled the stage and everyone turned into a fan.

I also got to see the Brian May band at Hammerjacks in Baltimore Maryland. It was so cool because it was a SMALL venue (which no exists that’s where they built Ravens Stadium) but it was AMAZING we waited in line for three hours so we could be in the third row. NO seats standing room only. We didn’t even go to the bar during the show.

Actually, beside not being Lady Gaga's target audience, I've seen some videos of her singing Led Zep (in pubs, before being famous), also singing with just a piano, and she CAN sing very well. Sad that she had to do all the drama to get recognized... If you listen to Taylor Swift's "As tears goes by" massacre WITH the Rolling Stones... It's horrible. You can see one great singer (Gaga), and one poser with nice legs (Swift).

My mom was a huge queen fan while she was alive. So she introduced me to them when I was very young, I'm 32 now. Everytime i hear queen i think of her. So naturally I introduced queen to my own children very young as well. I always tell them your grandma would blast these songs while we were in the car. (There was no talking in my mom's car for this reason) I cant listen to their music without getting emotional. Most the time I get teary eyed cause the connection it gives me to my mom but also just the music its self just touches me. Like we are the champions always makes me cry idk why just the song its self. And we will rock you always gets my heart racing and I get into the song. That's magic that a band from the 70s and 80 can still be killing it with music they made then to new generations like myself and my children. There will never be another queen or another freddie mercury. I just barley watched bohemian rhapsody due to covid gotta lot of down time and I've been obsessing over them since I always knew their music but their story was amazing how we will rock you came to be. Completely genius btw and shows you what an amazing person Freddie was and at times lost person as well but just made me love them more.

Totally get you... My dad was a big fan, so I grew up with Queen music in the house. But when I got older, this became like a link between my dad and I... We never really spoken much about anything but we were always talking about music and especially Queen... It was kinda like our thing and when my dad left this world, their music helped me to keep that connection with my dad and the pain of losing him just when we were about to develop our relationship as I grew older and in my 30's I understand him better and he started to get me, that pain was easier to cope with through their music. And whenever I think of Freddie I automatically think of my dad and they are somehow connected to me... I love and always will love Freddie! The world, the music industry lost the greatest performer, song write and vocalist of all times when he left this world! We miss u Freddie!

dont, I only found out about Queen thnx to getting into Bowie because of his work with Trent Reznor on the song "Im Afraid of Americans" back when I was in High School in the late 90's, ended up listening to Under Pressure one day, looked up Queens stuff and fell in love on the spot with them, Found out a few years later that he had died of HIV/AIDS complication back in 93, felt I had missed out on witnessing something great and wondrous
