I attended Live Aid. I remember watching this at Wembley like it was yesterday. Freddie wasn't just a singer, he was an entertainer. Still got my ticket. Nicely laminated now and locked up in my safe.

You must keep in mind that the crowd (Live Aid) even didn't know they were coming, because Queen were added to the list when all the tickets were sold out. THIS WAS NOT A QUEEN CROWD BUT STILL THEY STOLE THE SHOW. Freddie commanded the crowd at 2 stadiums simultaneously (Wembley and Philadelphia) and HAD THEM IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND. Queen's performance at Live Aid is voted MOST ICONIC festiwal moment in music history. BTW Radio Ga Ga = Lady Gaga ,she is a huge Queen fan

They didn't know at the moment they purchased their tickets but found out Queen had been added just a few days before the concert itself.

When Bob Geldoff announced the performers at the first press conference, Queen were definitely announced even though they hadn’t agreed to do it among many others. Geldoff was just announcing people he hoped would be there including a reunion of The Who. The crowd definitely knew Queen would be performing.

92,000 people attended that concert it was classed as a global event which we will never see the likes of again. This has been hailed as one of the greatest live performances ever by Queen, I was 23 years old at the time and I still remember to this day how great it was. RIP Freddie.

Let you know the fact: 72.000 people at Wembley London 89.000 at JFK stadium in Philadelphia 1.8 billion people watching via satelite around the world... that is 1/3 of the world population at that time Bob Geldof stated that when Queen performed the donations for Live Aid finally started to roll in in huge numbers...

This was televised world 🌎 wide. After the London concert ended, the Philadelphia concert came on. Phil Collins played both concerts, took the Concord to make it. This was a fund raiser for Africa. Each band has 20 mins most only did 2 to 3 songs. Queen rehearsed over and over with a big clock to get their timing perfect to be able to do more songs. Also Freddie was advised by his MD not to sing due to having strep throat. Lady Gaga got her name from this song Radio Gaga as she loves Queen. It was very hot that day, they used hoses to cool people down.

It was great to watch you two just enjoying every moment of this great show by the fabulous Queen! You didn't need to say anything - your faces said it all. Queen were used to playing to stadiums with much larger audiences than that.

It was for famine relief in Ethiopia. The stadium was the old Wembley stadium in London - it since been torn down and rebuilt. Other bands/people were David Bowie, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Status Quo, The Who, U2 and many more I can’t remember just now. Freddie did that performance against doctor’s orders, as he had a throat infection, which made it very painful to sing

There will never be another Freddie. Taking nothing away from the other band members. They are a gift to the world.

I thought I was the only one that knew Freddie and Brian closed the shoelw with the song is this the world we created. Such a grear song they wrote several years before.

They were the best! It’s hard to see and hear Freddie’s dynamic singing and energetic performance and realize he was already slowly dying from AIDS. I can’t think of another performer who could have come close to pulling this off. Love them

Freddie wasn’t diagnosed till 87. He did have a throat infection Freddie loved the people, and he always said the more the merrier. The band had just come off a huge tour with mostly sold out stadiums. Queen were pros at huge audiences. Not many people notice this but Brian changes guitars three times during Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Just a note the facts in the movie are about 94 percent wrong. Sorry guys.

Read the comments, no-one mentioned that Freddy Mercury and Brian May were asked to do an encore with 'Is This The World We Created', a very fitting song to play for Live Aid.

@@SimplyTwoDudes Yep - this was a time when the world was, actually united in supporting the cause that was Live Aid. Will we ever see that kind of linked humanity for the good of others even in my lifetime again - after everything that has been over last 2 years and with how fallout from even more things now, I would say more chance of another 1 of Jesus's relatives being identified! But yeah, this happened when global satellite technology to even deliver this was in its infancy - the broadcast used 13 satellites to be able to broadcast worldwide. In effect the first live streaming event enabled by all those satellites and all that before, mobile phones before email - before internet! The whole event itself even helped in the direction of telecommunications over the subsequent years becoming more and more globally connected. Bob was told for multitude of reasons this wouldn't be possible but he stuck to his vision and refused to give up on it, he navigated broadcast rules treaties he got the major competitors of US networks ABC CBS AND NBC collaborating with each other and all that from no politician but as he was back then just another famous musician! He was ultimately proved right!!

All these years later and STILL fresh, alive with energy - and for a good cause (responding to Famine in Ethiopia). Queen delivered and Freddie drove his way into hearts everywhere. (Radio Ga Ga - think Lady Ga Ga, who got her name from that song.). This performance would lead to their last global tour prior to Freddie's diagnosis. They were all champions that day.

I saw Queen in79 at Newcastle City Hall and again in 86 at Newcastle Football Stadium. They are/were fantastic and i feel so fortunate to have gotten to watch them live.

I was 14yrs old when this concert aired and I missed it. I didn’t truly appreciate what an amazing band Queen was and is plus the experience it was to have seen it. Freddie Mercury was and will always be a one of a kind showman, a phenomenal singer, didn’t need auto tune like these so called artists do today and the entire band will always be one in a million. It’s sad when you look at him on stage now knowing that dreadful disease was destroying him and no matter what, he always gave 100% RIP Freddie ❤❤❤.

I love you two men (I’m an old British woman), but your reactions to Queen, especially Freddie has made my day. Just subscribed, keep up the good work, keep the faith.

Ahh Freddie’s voice is eargasmic! Thanks. Even with laryngitis and only an 18 minute set it was jaw dropping 😮 listening to Queen who managed to rehearse and get in 6 songs versus the other great performances of 1-2 songs. Freddie sang, strutted and held 1/4 of the world (live and on tv) in the palm of his hand. No one performed live better than Queen with Freddie Mercury’s gifted vocals and strut and playfulness. They became the world’s ideal rock band that day. And 6 years later he was gone!!😢❤

Live aid was for Ethiopia hunger...this was at Wembley, it was televised around the world performances took place in Philadelphia and England...there were multitude of performers...Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Madonna, Hall and Oates, U2...but this performance outshined them all

I loved your enthusiasm and appreciation of every moment, watching the masters of their craft at their best. It was shown around the world. There was an encore later that evening with Brian's acustic guitar and Freddie singing Is This the World We Created; beautifully performed

FYI there was 100,000 people in the audience and add to that the TV crew, security, the technical staff and who knows how many more!

Check out Love of My Life live in Rio 1985 for a 250K live crowd and keep in mind English is not their primary language when you're watching.

About 72,000 in England and 103,000 in the USA, but through satellite link up 45% of the world's population saw this, 1.9 billion people. Extraordinary. Freddie had a really bad throat infection, his doctor told him not to sing, but Freddie marched out with his buddies and became the greatest of the day, Queen was voted the best band, and to this day their performance is considered the best in history. Fun fact, Lady Ga Ga took her name from Radio Ga Ga, she is a big Queen fan.

People still rock out to this. When you’re great the music never dies.

I was 16 and camping in Yosemite when this concert took place. My friend and I took control of the clubhouse, put the concert on and NO ONE was allowed to touch it. Just wish I coulda been AT the concert, but that’s too much to ask. I just happy to have been alive at the time.

Wow, its just amazing that we can still watch and at least relive it through the internet.

They had done Rock in Rio earlier that year that had over 250,000+ peeps, so this was a club gig. 😆

The show started out with the beginning of Bohemian Rhapsody, next came Radio GaGa, then into Hammer To Fall. Oh, then we have A Crazy Little Thing Like Love which takes us to We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, and finis. Freddie had 72k people eating out of his hand. The best 17 minutes of live rock you’ll ever hear.

The remarkable thing to me is that even though you are watching a video, you are so sucked into the moment that you feel you are there! I got to see Queen in 82, and really, they are special and could connect with everyone in the crowd.

It was for Ethopia famine. They were starving. They were at Wrmberly Statium and there was 72K there. 1.9 billion watched via tv. I watched it. I was 14 at the time and when Queen started we all stopped and did exactly what the crowd was doing. Best concert I have ever seen. Tons were at Live Aid, David Bowie, U2, Elton John, Les Zeplin, Madonna. The list goes on and on. Even the performers said Queen stole the show. Watch the last performance of the night. Freddie and Brian do the last song to close. They wrote it 4 yrs before but it was called is this the world we created.

You wanna know exactly how good Freddie was??? At 12:00 (in THIS video) Freddie and the cameraman were circling each other. Then at 12:26 you see the cameraman pull the wire and Freddie notices, then grabs the cord so the guy can't accidentally rip the cord from the microphone. Then in the next few seconds--all without any real hesitation--Freddie heads back over so he can help the camera man untangle the wires. At the end of the song, he goes over to say something to them and he has a smile on his face. The professionalism and wherewithal is simply astounding, and out of over 1 BILLION people watching, nobody ever even knew it happened (in the moment of course).

There is your set list. ...and all this in just 21 minutes..Nailed It! Wembley Stadium, London. 72-80, 000 people in the crowd depending on who is telling the story. It was a concert to aid famine in Ethiopia. Queen was one of many bands at this venue and many more in Philadelphia where the other half of the benefit was going on. It was broadcast worldwide on TV and Radio. It was 1985. I remember watching it on TV and no matter where you went it was either on radio or TV. It was an event of gigantic proportions. Bob Geldof put the event together and when the tickets were sold, Queen was not even on the docket because they had not been confirmed. So all those singing fans didn't buy their ticket because Queen was going to be part of the show, but they seemed to know all the songs just fine. Home town crowd that is true, but this was the home town for a lot of the bands. Thank you for your reaction.

Freddie was very sick with a viral infection and was still brilliant! Best concert set in rock music history without question! Freddie wrote A Crazy Little Thing Called Love as an Elvis tribute!

I've watched this concert 100s of times. Of course cause I love, love love it. Watching today with you was wonderful. The bad thing about the Bio-Pic movie was they failed to honestly represent what a fabulous human being Freddie was . . . that dishonest creativity hurts my heart. Have you reacted to Freddie singing "Barcelona" with Opera Diva Montserrat Caballe (a 1988 Album, a masterpiece). He knew he had Aids by then. Thanks for your reaction!

In 1984 the BBC was reporting on the famine in Ethiopia and Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats) was so upset he cajoled all the top chart acts of the day to make a single to raise money for the famine relief effort. It was so successful that America joined in and made a single the following year. They then decided to hold the Live Aid concert to raise more money. Pretty much everyone in pop music played at the event. It was a great day, hot for the UK (thundered in the evening after the concert) and as they set up each act they showed films about the famine or did small acts like Tracy Chapman. All punctuated with Bob Geldof shouting at everyone on TV to ,"give us your bloody money!". Find memories.

I was 17 years old by that time and I remember skipping school to watch the whole concert on TV. It was the best! Specially Queen! I was 12 when they came to México to perform and it was the best experience. If you can see we did not have cellphones by that time so the concerts experience was different. I miss those times.

Queen stole the show at live aid and everybody knew it!! R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU

FYI Freddie has throat infection, doctor told him not to perform...

13th July 1985 at the old Wembley Stadium, and Queen were used to playing stadiums, I think the biggest audience per concert was Rio around 250,00 per night, this was an idea by Sir Bob Geldof for the famine in Ethiopia back in the late 70's which went on into the 80's. This was live via satellite over two billion saw this, and while Wembley was happening there was a concert in the States no gaps in the music, which went on all day, you'd have too look up the list of who took part and in which country, it's way too long to list. You heard songs written individually by Freddie, Dr Brian May ( astrophysicist) and Roger Taylor, they all had a set amount of time for their sets, and Freddie also managed to sing against doctors advice with a throat infection. I remember the concert very well 80,000 at the stadium as many don't know that all of the corporate hospitality boxes which held around 40 per box were also full and the restaurants, I know this as I was there all week during the set up and rehearsala in hospitality, unfortunately not at the concert as I had a family wedding to attend

Its Radio Ga Ga. Lady Ga Ga (singer, actress, performer) took her name from the song. There was never anyone like them, before or since. I miss Freddie. RIP.

In Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bryan May changed guitar twice during it. He started on acoustic, swapped to one electric for the middle break and yet another for the outro.

75, 000 people in attendance and 1.9 Billion people from around the world, which was one forth of the world at that time were watching.

This is probably the greatest concert ever. Queen was a late addition and Freddie had a throat infection and was told by his doctor not to perform. Obviously he ignored them. There is no doubt that Queen stole the show and Elton John said backstage "You bastards. You stole the show!"

Hope you have/had more reactions to Queen and good luck in the mid terms - please remember to Vote - we in the UK really do care about you guys int he USA. Live Aid was a charity concert to raise money for the famine in Ethiopia with several famous acts who volunteered to participate and didn’t get paid. Each act had a 20 minute set. A lot of the other performers played their current songs to promote their albums and didn’t take advantage of the time. Queen took it seriously and spent a week or so putting their playlist together and they had giant clocks in front of them so they could practice and pack as much in as they could in 20 minutes. It also helped that the sound guy worked for Queen and tweaked it so that Queen was louder than everyone else. By the middle of the set, the other acts backstage started to watch them on the monitors and realized that Queen was stealing the show and basically kicked everyone’s ass and they knew it!! Brian May (guitarist) said that they had an advantage because they’d been playing stadiums for years and Freddie knew how to get the crowd involved. Many people say it’s the best live performance. Also, because the stage was pretty basic due to all the different artists, critics didn’t think Queen would pull it off because their shows are typically a huge production with lighting etc. and again Queen shut down the critics proving that they can put on a great show with just the four of them. David Bowie who was a big star back then was the next act in the lineup and was quoted in an interview later saying how was he supposed to follow that. Elton John was quoted as saying 'Freddie, nobody should go on after you - you were magnificent. ' Freddie said: 'You're absolutely right, darling, we were - we killed them.

Lots of inaccurate things played out in the movie. They had in fact been touring on the Works Tour from 1984 to May 1985, 2 to 3 months before Live Aid. Freddie never left the band nor did he have to beg them to take him back. They all did solo albums too, not just Freddie. Also, Freddie found out he had AIDS in April 87. Although I do suspect Freddie had some idea from Live Aid onwards. 🤔... The whole band took drugs and partied too, Queen were well known for their big parties. Best way to hear the truth on Freddie and Queen are through interviews and documentaries. Live Aid was phenomenal and pretty much breathed new life into the four members.

Hammer To Fall was the only new (then) track in the set. Set list:- 1.Bohemian Rhapsody - 2.Radio Ga Ga - (Eh Oh improvised) - 3.Hammer To Fall - 4.Crazy Little Thing Called Love - 5.We Will Rock You - 6. We Are The Champions. Later in the evening Freddie and Bryan May the guitarist came back ( 9:48 pm, as a 'fill in' while things were set up in Philadelphia) to sing the acoustic 'Is This the World We Created?'

It was for famine relief in Ethiopia. 72,000 people here , 100,000 in Philadelphia and 1.3 trillion on tv worldwide. In Rio they played to 230,000.
