That's not true. The title president and queen are synonyms they both control their country. The only difference being is that the president gets replaced every 4 years while the queen when she dies and she passes her title to her descendants while the presidents are chosen by the people. Its monarchy vs democratically accepted independence.

@@icarusgotooclose, you are partly right here. The head of state of the United Kingdom (Queen Elizabeth II) HAS in fact political power although she normally doesn´t use them. So, she could in fact dissolve Her government (wich she has asked the Prime Minister to form). But in principle that could only happen if the government went against the will of the people-thus she is the foremost guardian of the nation's democracy.

I’m American but my grandmother has always been a fan of the Queen. She was in middle school when she was coronated. She and a group of friends made handkerchiefs for the Queen and sent them to her. The Queen sent a thank you letter back. My grandmother had it put into a glass holder and still essentially shrines it to this day. She has nice handwriting.

We have the ceremony of coronation in this country but no monarch is ever ‘coronated’ but simply ‘crowned’. It appears to be a US usage. To us it sounds as it would to a US citizen if on inauguration day a Briton were to describe the new President as being ‘presidented’. Not exactly wrong but definitely not right!

You may find this really interesting: "That's Edward VII's work mostly when you look at the Palace now. Back in 1889 when Edward was the Prince of Wales, in a private event when he visited the real Moulin Rouge its reported this happened: "26 October 1890: His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the future Edward VII, who on a private visit to Paris, booked a table to see this quadrille whose reputation had already crossed the Channel. Recognising him, La Goulue, with her leg in the air and her head in her skirts, spontaneously called out "Hey, Wales, the champagne's on you!"." The birthplace of the modern can-can dance, though really the tune had existed before then since I believe least 1840 I think, when it was first created. Actually the tune associated with its the Internal Galop from Orpheus in the Underworld a form of Bouffon Operetta by Jacques Offenbach a bouffon Operetta being a comic form of Operetta believe it pokes fun at the scandals in politics of the 3rd French Empire lead by Napoleon III who gave Offenbach French Citizenship (was quite essentially German-French" Something I said just above this comment.

@kevin cheeseboro313 Being American doesn't matter to The Queen. She's made History in America TOO! Having to be the First British Monarch to ***EVER*** step foot IN America since the American Revolution, In Virginia, She is also the VERY First British Monarch to ride the Virginia Royal Carriage which was supposed to be built for the next person in power after His Majesty King George III but was never used for royal occasions because of the revolution and revolution aftermath. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the royal guards, standing on her carriage like they were working as a British Army Guard during The Queen's Trooping the Colour. Her Majesty fit very well in that carriage. Everyone just pretended that America's Republic hadn't existed yet and pretended it was still a Constitutional Monarchy and see what it would be like if Her Majesty was Queen of America and part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. America is a different country Her Majesty thought, It wasn't a country where she rather present herself as Head of State of the United Kingdom, It is a country where her great great great great grandfathers ruled over and established by Queen Anne; The First British Queen, America still wanted to be part British and at the same time it's own country, Her visit to Colonial Williamsburg brought attention to members of the small royal village that a Living British Monarch is coming. Last year in Spring she was going to return to America to mark another anniversary, But on behalf of All Americans she had to stay for the British-American-endorsed Royal Wedding! - And we Americans sure did understand, Many people were wishing for Prince Philip to be there, And many hoped The Queen would enjoy the service and thanked her for it to exist. America is indeed a country she truly loves just as much as the United Kingdom, So much that she decides to have 2 Americans in The Royal Family. Even 3 U.S. Presidents are related to royal blood; George Washington - twice removed cousin of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge George H.W. Bush - twice removed cousin of Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom George W. Bush - twice removed cousin of Elizabeth II, Queen of the United Kingdom America is a nation that shouldn't have been a Republic but had to become one for the best of the future and all of humanity. God Bless America And God Save The Queen!

I then received word that I would not be needed, because the bride had decided to exclude her sister as bridesmaid, because the sister was too fat and would ruin the wedding pictures.

I'm still in the first season, but so far I was very often disappointed with how she never pulled through with her own choices, but always comes round to what other people tell her to do. Of course she was still incredibly young and suddenly queen and that can not have been easy at all, but still. I only just finished the episode where she had Peter sent away before him and Margaret could meet again, what a shitshow. Going from 'I'll support you all the way, you can legally get married in scotland' to 'I' m not allowing you to be together at all also you can't see him for 2 years and even then you still won't have my consent'. The lack of backbone there really struck me - I get the monarchy was important to uphold, but family is so important and she really treated her sister terribly, just to uphold status. Please don't spoil for me what happens next (okay I guess history isn't really a spoiler but still^^) but so far I am getting ever more disappointed with young Elizabeth.

We tend to pronounce things the way they are spelled. We are very literal in that sense. Hence why American English is considered "business English". How is it supposed to be pronounced, just out of curiosity? I mean.....there are words that the British pronounce that sound funny to American ears, too. It goes both ways.

This is actually false, for example in all of europe and asia, schools teach British English, Well just English. Not American english. Also a lot of schools in asia choose to follow a british curriculm too. Also as the inventors of English, hence why its called english not americanish, the pronunciation of words are up to the creators. A letter by itself isn't decided how to be pronounced, until someone says its supposed to be pronounced that way, of course you wouldn't know that as many americans dont prioritise learning second languages in schools, For example if you see germans typing, wasser, you will think its pronounced how its typed, but again, its not as the creators decided the W is more equivalent to what we would consider the sound of a V in english. Sorry to correct you.

That's Edward VII's work mostly when you look at the Palace now. Actually the tune associated with its the Internal Galop from Orpheus in the Underworld a form of Bouffon Operetta by Jacques Offenbach a bouffon Operetta being a comic form of Operetta believe it pokes fun at the scandals in politics of the 3rd French Empire lead by Napoleon III who gave Offenbach French Citizenship (was quite essentially German-French).

Her Britannic Majesty is an institution unto herself. Elegant, gracious, and of remarkable wit and warmth, her reign truly is equal to the magnificence of the Victorian Era as one of the most remarkable periods of the history of the UK and it’s predecessor states. I may be American, but I’m a proud Anglophile and the UK holds a special place in my heart. God save the Queen.

She's speaking American English. (except her clumsy, momentary attempt to feign an English accent out of utter boredom, probably) I've heard more than one UK newsreader pronounce the US state of Maryland, in almost the exactly same "incorrect" way - i.e., literally as spelled. Should I write them a letter next time I hear it? Changing dialects to "correctly" pronounce words ultimately leads to a ridiculous effect, e.g., Phil Hartman's hilarious Enchilada skits on SNL.

God save Queen Saxe Coburg and Gotha [ fake windsor name since 1917 ] ? Save the poor the helpless homeless those who served in armed services Your Royal Highness for what exactly ? silly made up titles , utter claptrap the sheer absurdity of HRH silly made up titles four generations of spongers on the balcony The former Royal Palace (now the National Museum of Art of Romania) ....21 December 1989 Bucharest. and self entitlement , all dished out by granny saxe coburg and gotha as the royals live in palaces with chefs and maids pontificating claptrap and hypocrisy. The cost to the taxpayer of events like trooping of colour, royal weddings the security detail alone was £24M + for meghan and harry. more funding for hospitals and schools .Oh no ,hundreds of millions spent on buckingham palace and extension at kensington palace . while homeless sleep rough on the streets. .As food banks open ,and poverty and homeless on the rise. wearing chocolate coin medals ascending to very high military ranks just because royal status , in most cases no active service mollycoddled by special forces as a PR exercise . Inequality is perpetuated with a medieval feudal unfair society this is so 19th century. Democracy is about the people voting and our children aspiring to be The next UK head of state not via birthright and self entitlement Stasi form of brainwashing the public into acceptance and validation. will not work in the 21st century.the monarchy is a waltz into the past , stifling the evolution of democracy in a modern democratic society
