Queen Camilla Reveals Her Favourite Children’s Writer at Charleston Festival
The Queen has opened this year’s Charleston Festival - to celebrate the power of books and reading for children and young people.
Appearing alongside Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and local primary school children, Her Majesty named Victorian novelist Frances Hodgson Burnett as one of her favourite writers - before joking that she herself, is not Victorian. Report by Matthew Covell.

What a lovely event - Queen Camilla chooses them well. As an avid reader, I agree with her choice I read The Secret Garden when I was a child. Reading is a form of escapism as well as learning and should be encouraged.
In a beautiful natural green blue palette her majesty shows a great love of literature and good spirit.

Still feels kinda odd & out of place thinking of Camilla as "queen" though I know she is, and have always been in AWE of her & Charles' love story! Love conquers all! Still odd because when I hear references to "the queen," I still think of her late majesty, Queen Elizabeth, as her image is still on my stamps, currency, etc. ❤

@@johnforsbergbarrett923 It wasn't, but her style was what ppl have been used to for 70 years. She meant the title and the identity of the person. After Queen being attached to one person for so long, it can be difficult for some ppl to learn to associate the title with someone new.

I also enjoyed reading the books she mentioned as well . Especially loved when she made the children happy when mentioned wanting to jump on the Express go to Hogwarts , To sit in the Wonderful Hall and wait for the Hat to come around and pick a house . Queen Camilla has aged so very well like a fine wine but more than that she has shown us what resilience is all about and is as i'd imagine a tower of strength for King Charles, he must be so very proud of her. I also love her answer to the young lady of a place she would love to visit from a book. A definite thumbs up :)

Oh I absolutely LOVED "The Secret Garden", and "The Little Princess", particularly the latter, though I didn't (dear me) recognise the Authoress's name. I still have a very battered, tatty copy of "The Little Princess", and am going to haul it off the shelf and reread it now. For old time's sake. At age 61. It'll do me good! The Queen is a lovely person, so real.

To this day I love The Secret Garden - but at 77 years old my most favourite book from childhood is Heidi by Johanna Spyri and I reread it about every 3 years or so; and still cry when Heidi leaves her grandfather!!! There are so many books I read as a child that helped me escape into a world of fantasy and wonder!!

Isn't she lovely! Wow, so without poshness even though she's well off. Can definately see why Charles as a man chased her and reuinited later. My grandchildren love reading and they always have a reading book to bring home from school, I know they play on iPads/ laptops too but they still enjoy a good story and actually Harry Potter is a firm favourite and with me too.

The fact that her son served as a page in the coronation and Rose remains a friend of Catherine would indicate to any mentally-sound person that the rumors CANNOT be true.
You can tell by Camilla’s voice that she is still a heavy smoker. Ppl do get cancer from second hand smoke. Just a thought.

It has ALWAYS been the case that the wife of a King, though technically a Consort, is ALWAYS referred to as Queen. Look at Queen Elizabeth's Mother, she married King George VI and was called Queen. King George V wife was Queen (Mary), King Edward VII wife was Queen (Alexandra) and so on, the way it has always been; King and Queen. Camilla doesn't have the power of a reigning Monarch of course; not a born Queen but by marriage to a King, she is indeed Queen. It is the same with other European Monarchy's too
