Lyrics:
A man stands hiding a large machine
His hand is stuck, you can see it in the way he tries to fight his own pose
The verge is close
The body's in vacancy, The last part of his decency struggles to regain control
It's taking its toll
The next few seconds will
Determine the nature and colour of his legacy
The Last Straw to break the
Back of the camel is being clutched and tucked away
Taking the blow once more creating an itch - you're withering
(Wet rug - accumulating grit in on your record spiraling out of touch)
Scratching, infecting, the rash on your skin - it's creeping
(Blank stare - concealing within all the recent you feel inside)
Talk to me please! Tell me about all of the burns you always hide
Is it hard to keep lying?
How many times? Have you barely been able to keep your wrath at bay?
Lost your way without saying
A slip of a nerve was all it took for our Circumstances to be turning upside down, her face disfigured in the carpet
Regret swells up and your desperation reveals itself, for the first seconds in a while you spoke your mind
Now you're scared of the marks you made - do you think that there are those
Who can look at you once and shake your hand and see what you've been doing?
The sweat runs down your side
You're open wide
The moment's passed and the blow is dealt
You crossed a threshold steep enough separate the world from your burdens
It'll never return
The stains on the living room floor
Speaks of a mind lost once and for all
Pushing far beyond the limit and speeding away past the point of no return
Taking the blow once more - scratching the plates that covers the
(Wet rug - accumulating grit in on your record spiraling out of touch)
Basement in which it lurks - does she deserve it?
(Blank stare - concealing within all the recent you feel inside)
How do you feel? Lost and disposed as your rage converts to fear
Is your eyesight clearer?
When did you turn?
Deranged to the point where your mother won't meet your gaze?
Don't say it's just a phase

    Is this about domestic violence?

Yes it is. This is what singer Anton has to say about the song. Lyrically, it deals with domestic violence, and focuses on your typical "too nice" guy who bottles up on his emotions and then snaps - releasing his fury on his partner/child (I'm leaving it up to your interpretation). Once I learned that statistically, we all know someone who is - or will be - like that, I started thinking about whether or not you, as their friend/family member, could see it coming or prevent it. The lyric is basically what I imagined I'd tell him before (verse 1), and after (verse 2) he "snapped" (interlude). Metaphorically, I describe his rage as a machine that he himself loses control over and gets stuck in. Hence the first line, "A man stands hiding a large machine". It's a rather strange thing to say - it's basically a contradiction - and I like it, because it really gets you thinking and asking questions. It's probably my favourite "first line" on this record.
