Quake 4: An Underrated Gem
Ойындар
Here's a mostly forgotten relic of Id Software's lineup of shooters, and was one that tried to mimic the success of Doom 3 with mixed results.
It's a good game, but one that a lot of Quake fans didn't ask for. And yet I would recommend to give it a chance.

Quake 4 is one of my favourite games. Yes Doom 3 was slower than Doom and Doom 2, but I’ve kill counted the entire campaign and only the first few levels have the horror vibe, later on you just get overwhelmed with enemies and it’s awesome with the tools the game gives you to deal with then all. Quake 4 off the back of Doom 3 was such a fresh insight into the Strogg War, and having also played them not too long ago for kill counts, can say it still hits all the right notes for me. Definitely needs another entry!!! Great video, and well presented, I’ve subscribed :) 👍

Q4 looks like a pure garbage from the gameplay angle. Yeah, “the graphics”, but Q1 and Q3 are the actual gameplayish games.
Honestly really enjoy this one. I love the way Raven expanded on the designs and gameplay roles of the already-established enemies from Quake 2 in order to make the combat "dance" even more intricate, and I really love what they did with the creature design. The evil monster Strogg look a lot more like they could be a version of *us,* from some warped alternate timeline. It's been a while but I also remember the level design getting very creative and interesting without falling into the same traps that Quake 2's did. Only negative point I have is it coulda used a few more guitars :D
Quake 4 is awesome
Dude, when i was a child, Quake 4 was a dream that came true. It had everything - spaceships jumping out of hyperspace, dropships landing under fire, high-tech weapons and enemies, friendly soldiers fighting with you, dark corridors with jumpscares just like in the movies. Every few years i return back and play the story again, that's how much i like it. The only disadvantage is the lack of cooperative multiplayer, which imho really should have been there, and some story non-senses like the survival of the Macron and the planetary gun defence. But i can't understand how would anyone hate this game.
@RegalRoyalWasTaken

Fun fact, the Makron didn't survive! Another one took his place. That, plus the ground assault going to shit at every turn, has me convinced the Big Gun, and by extension Quake 2's mission, was a trap designed to lure us into launching a full scale assault we couldn't win. Like they were *ready* for us.

The game design and overall SP campaign are incredible. Love this game, perhaps my fav FPS campaign. But Q3 was a lovecraftian FPS that nailed the MP gameplay of arena shooters. It's still unmatched. Yeah most Q2 fans didn't like Q4 much either. Most of that was technical, and related to choices Raven made with regards to the "feel" of the game, the combat, etc. The story was predictable, but decent, level design was good too. The rest was a mixed bag at best. Even trying to mod the game was a chore compared to previous titles. And that's where all these games survived. Great video! I didn't really understand the purpose with Quake 4, but I really appreciate that they went for single-player only, because I loved the strogg world, it's one of the few games that can actually scare me, and they did a really great job with it. I think it's a shame that we don't get to witness the strogg world more often, machines mixed with human parts is scary and cool as shit, I can only imagine a game like that today.
A good remix. Played Quake since the first entry of the series. Q4 had the large detriment to have a limited multiplayer mode in Germany, my home country. If you bought the German verison, you could play exclusively with other Germans - and with no one else. Was a real show stopper when me and my international gaming friends found out. Haven't touched it since finishing the single player for that reason. Played Q1 to 3 over and over again extensively, though

@@yurkoflisk Sure, it wouldn't have been impossible to still make it work between versions, but I guess the German publisher thought it wasn't worth the cost since the indexing of Quake 4 meant that it would sell next to no copies in Germany. In fact barely anyone in my circles knows of Quake 4's existence much like other indexed games which is no wonder since once indexed the press and media wasn't even allowed to name those titles or at least the didn't fearing legal consequences. So when a gaming magazine couldn't avoid mentioning such a game for example to provide context for an article they'd use replacement names such as "Beben", which is the German word for Quake. When indexed games were played in Germany in 99,9% it was a pirated copy.

It's definitely a franchise with an identity crisis. Doom has always been doom, even with the drastic changes with Doom 3. Quake needs a reboot.
Over the course of a year and a half, i had around 1200 hours in the quake 4 multiplayer (the server i ran and the others i played on used a mod called Q4Max). It was the first online multiplayer game i got into. The engine quake 4 used is the predecessor to the Source engine, the amazing (if somewhat dated) engine running Team Fortress 2 (my all time favorite multiplayer game).
Loved it back then. Played it shortly after Doom 3 and Prey. Love it still. Would love to see it back on steam with achievements .
Nice work
Completely forgot i played this game, but good memories came!
I really like Quake 4, and my only wish is they'd feature more biomes than just the desert. if the laboratory section was set in swamps, and the final act was set in the polar regions of the planet, that would help break up the monotony imo
I still play Q3A to this day. Yes, it's entirely with bots, but there are hundreds of add-on maps for Q3A that look gorgeous and are really diverse and some of them really atmospheric.
The first game I installed to test my geforce fanless 6200. So good memories.

because of the engine this game just always LOOKED like an alternate reality doom 3
Quake 4 the type of game I keep coming back to every year or so. I just love the moment you get turned into a Strogg.
Never finished q4 but I played it alot years ago. Fantastic game.
Played it many years ago, don't remember much from it other than the cyber spider boss and the nail gun. My favorite gun lol
Just recently delved into this again for the first time in about 10 years. Great! I'd forgotten about 80% of it, making like a new game experience with deja-vu! Lol! I agree with most of this narrative also. So why the lack of Quake 5!?? Maybe that phone call at the end was from a result of a search through Cain's record collection!?
Stroggified. It is a great game. Speaking of Doom 3 I loved the horror elements. Especially the audio tapes that you found, it was a great creepy build up.
Quake 2 is my all time favourite of all ID Software games. I very like the idea of Stroggs and futuristic space shooting so I was looking forward to play Quake 4 back in the day. I liked the game but for me it lacked that feel of Quake 2. It's hard to explain but I love that 90s feel of Quake 2 and the way people imagine future back then. I loved that Guards looked like Judge Dredd, I loved that bulky blaster, cosmic looking shotgun and so on. That what I was missing in the Quake 2 - the enemies were too clean, "rounded", futuristic in the way we see it today, not in the 90s and so with the weapons. I would love to see Stroggs, Bitterman, Joker, Stepchild and Kane beeing remake whit that 90s look :)
I've been playing for a few weeks now. I even had an unpleasant situation when an update appeared on GoG, and my saves stopped loading. I ended up reinstalling and rolling back a few saves. It had its good sides, until now I played with unofficial Polish translation, now I found full dubbing, because in the past, when I had it on CD, it was in Polish distribution. I managed to get it and install it. Game on! 💪
My second favorite game, love it!
I love quake 4, one of my favourite early 360 surprises
Just hope we get more games in this setting of devastated earth fighting the strogg. Cool setting to me at least. Enemy territory was good too.
From all Quake games I liked Quake IV the most. And yes, I played all of them back in the days when they were new and popular releases. I wish they continued in this direction and gave us Quake V.
I need a Quake 4 remake soo bad🔥
Let me tell you something, Q2 and Q4 are my favorite Quake games, and Doom 3 my favorite Doom game, 3 of some of the best FPS ever made, don't let anybody make you think otherwise.

Sick game, massove guns, huge bosses, non stop action
Wouldn't you absolutely LOVE a remake or a remaster of this legendary game? I always see people throwing nothing but shit at it. Bro this game was one hell of a ride. It even gets better after Operation Last Hope where you get to *experience* the sheer scale of the attack, the execution of a massive plan against an alien race on their own freaking planet. It was so good, I think I lost count of all the times I beat Quake 4. It'll forever hold the most special place in my heart, maybe even my all time most favorite game.
For me, having played and speedrun the game, my favorite aspect of the game is the OpenAL surround sound. On my first playthrough, I looked into enabling surround sound. Once I went through the (lengthy and annoying) process, the game took a direction I've never experienced. I could literally hear enemies in full 3D space with just stereo headphones. Above me, below me, behind me, it didn't matter. I felt like I could close my eyes and still fight enemies. That's something that needs to be brought back to gaming. Graphics are great, but sound unfortunately has been left to the scrapyard.
