    With larger numbers it is harder to maintain humane conditions. To imagine there is a lot of room for growth. I expect they are developing their systems for a much larger operation, since at its current size they could treat these birds much better then they are. Or they have a lot of other things to do that requires them to not spend too much time on the quail. I’m just getting started on my own quail operation, and we are being much more gentle so far. For starters we are only selling eggs, so very little dispatching going on.

    c02 humane euthanasia. they basically fall asleep

  • @brockn7878

    @brockn7878

    10 ай бұрын

    He said he "puts them to sleep" which means they use an anesthetic gas. So they literally just fall asleep and never wake up. Could be any number of certain types of gas common in the industry. I used to work ate a shelter where we had to put down certain animals and I bear witness that it is quick and painless. Sad but humane, so to speak..

  • @brockn7878

    @brockn7878

    10 ай бұрын

    From Wikipedia... Gas anesthetics such as isoflurane and sevoflurane can be used for euthanasia of very small animals. The animals are placed in sealed chambers where high levels of anesthetic gas are introduced. Death may also be caused using carbon dioxide once unconsciousness has been achieved by inhaled anaesthetic.[9] Carbon dioxide is often used on its own for euthanasia of wild animals.[10] There are mixed opinions on whether it causes distress when used on its own, with human experiments lending support to the evidence that it can cause distress and equivocal results in non-humans.[11] In 2013, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) issued new guidelines for carbon dioxide induction, stating that a flow rate of 10% to 30% volume/min is optimal for the humane euthanasia of small rodents.[12] Carbon monoxide is often used, but some states in the US have banned its use in animal shelters: although carbon monoxide poisoning is not particularly painful, the conditions in the gas chamber are often not humane.[13] Nitrogen has been shown to be effective, although some young animals are more resistant to the effects,[14] and it currently is not widely used.

    @chrisblanc663 all animals deserve quality. If u choose to bring animals into your care then YOU have the responsibility to ensure u are providing them a safe and decent quality of life. Otherwise don't bother and continue to live in your selfish ways without hurting animals

  • @chrisblanc663

    @chrisblanc663

    7 ай бұрын

    @@kirstysmith2903 but what constitutes a “good life” is what I am getting at. Quail are burrowing breeds meaning they don’t like to have a LOT of space, it makes them nervous and unhappy. They obviously need to have enough space but “enough” depends on their view, not yours. You need to know what the animal you are caring for needs, and not anthropomorphize them into what you would want in their place. For example if you have their cage a little too tall, the quail will fly upward and break their neck. They either need to be 1 foot tall, or 6 feet tall. The 6feet tall is for human comfort in going into the cage, usually for colony living birds while their preference is 1 foot tall for reasons I just mentioned.
