Great bit of information! Very helpful for those looking for a new JGC. But IMO the best part was how you got your missus to go out and film in the freezing cold and has she comes back into the warm car, you say..."Did it look cool?" She replies "yep" sounds more like "I don't give a shit". Then you can hear saying "fuck!" Then you casually continue the rest of the video. Hahaha love it. Nice work.

I've had some time to play with my 2014 Limited with ORA2 and QD2. Selecting Mud mode without being in 4x4 low locks the rear diff and it does not ever unlock unless I switch selec terrain modes. Nice to almost have it selectable on command

I always keep my gas tank full in winter , it prevents moisture in the tank. I also love quarda drive 2 on my 2007 GC.

That is why I think I'm going to try and find trail hawk In budget plus it has more suitable tyres for the beach driving we do thanks for as all your help it is a must have option

your partly correct.... the 2014 (wk2) does use a brake traction system for the front axle. But the rear axle does have an electric locking rear diff.... if you have quadra drive 2 not quadra trac 2. Alot of people mistakenly believe they have quadra drive 2 when in fact they have quadra trac 2. For example my jeep in the video is a summit with the hemi and I still had to option in quadra drive 2.... it came stock with quadra trac 2 even though it's a summit. When you opt for quadra drive 2 you get the 230mm rear end as opposed to the 195mm rear end that comes standard. I called jeep with a number provided me by the local dealer and asked why the would have steered away from the front locking diff that came on the wk1 when it seems to be a superior system. There explanation was that with the new software the reaction time on the btc (brake traction control) system means that the new system is just as effective. However I agree with you and I think having fully locking diffs FRONT and rear would be better. Maybe the cheaper option for you is to find a wk1 that was in an accident or in the junkyard and see if you can just by the front diff... if it would line up to a wk2. In any event the rear end on the wk2 with qd2 does have a locking diff in the rear ... not a btc system.

Its the Breaks/ABS system that pass's power from the spinning wheel to the non spinning wheel. WK1 has it front and rear. The WH is the foreign version of the WK1. Has a 12 bolt rear instead of the 10bolt rear on the WK1. They have actual electric lockers in the front 8.0 and the rear 8.25(12bolt). I been trying to figure out how to import or purchase a WH 8.0 front 3rd member to have a full lock option. Dont get me wrong, the Break locking system is extremely badass and capable and should NOT be considered limited slip as 100% of motor power can move to the traction tire same as a locker. Low or higher-ish tire speed they work amazing. Upgrade your breaks and have a V8 to make the most use of QD2. I have seen a hard flexed V6 not manage the motor power to turn the traction tire.

quadra trac uses brakes quadra drive 1 99-04 uses limited slip front and rear quadra drive 2 05-10 uses e lockers front and rear (awesome) quadra drive 2 11 and up uses e locker rear, open diff front

Is there numbers vin anything 2018 models say it but I'm looking at 2015 on carsales and it's hard to find if it has quadro drive or not my 2000 model has quadro drive 1 and wouldn't be with out but seriously cant find any information when looking at online cars for sale

The jeep in this video is a 2014... and ya it's hard to know without driving it... you can take the vin number to any dodge dealership and get the build sheet.. it'll tell you specifically what that jeep has

The btc system is not as good as the locking diff because in order for the system to work it applies the brake to a spinning wheel which can cut out any momentum you may have had. it often cuts power at a crucial moment which sucks too

Make sure you have traction control off while off road.

Count the bolts on the rear differential. QDII will have 12, and anything else 10.

2010 and earlier quadra-drive also had limited slip FRONT differential, for one of the FEW true 4wd systems. Only other car off top of my head i know has that is Subaru WRX STI. even most subarus dont have front limited slips except sti. Quadra Drive is great, but 2011 killed the front limited slip

My 96 had the first iteration of Quadra Drive. Permanent 4x4 hi or lo, no electronic LSD. 13-15mpg with a 5.2L lol

I had WJ (2001) 4.0 QT2 for 8 years. And it was an animal. Especially in the mud and swamp. I miss it. So, can't believe that QD2 is better. Anyone have experienced both QT2 and QD2? which one is better?

QD2 I have and it has limited slip front and limited slip rear. Since you loved QT2, you would love QD2 even more.

I know. I have a sticker Quadra Drive II next to my gearbox lever .

It's not uncommon for people to swap out the standard wheels for steel wheels during winter in North America where heavy snowfall and ice are common because many cities/states use salt on the roads to melt the snow/ice, and salt will cause damage to the finish on the wheels and create rust on the body if you don't make sure to run your vehicle through a car wash frequently throughout the Winter 👍

there definantly making it harder to modify these jeeps if you wanted to put a full locker in theres so many electronics now its crazy

My friend ordered WK2 without an air suspension because he wanted to lift it. He put 2.5 inch lift, bigger tires, hidden winch and now that Jeep looks amazing! I'll make a video...

Quadra trac 1 is basically an all wheel drive system with no low range... similar to toyota rav4 or honda crv... you have no mode selection and the computer automatically decides how to disperse power. Quadra trac 2 is the same system but adds a low range option... again this system has no locking differentials and no mode selection. Quadra drive 2 has a locking rear differential and a locking center differential... along with low range and mode selection. Quadra drive also gives the ability to transfer power between front and rear axles but also side to side. Its considered one of the best systems on the market... only vehicle with a locking front diff as a stock feature ( like jeep Rubicon or ram powerwagon or few others ) would be better

One guy at jeep said overland have quadro drive and the trailhawk has quadro drive 2 then I really hot lost after that because my old 2000 is quadro drive I thought the only other one was quadro drive 2 now being the new models Haaaaa I've got 50 grand ready to buy one no one can help I'm nearly just going to buy a landcruser seriously I love my jeep but it is now confusing as hell

So I can help a little... grand cherokees come in several different trim levels. The one in the video for example is the summit which is the top trim level. Now you would think that being a fully loaded summit that it would've automatically come with there best 4x4 system (quadra drive 2) but not so... it would've come with quadra trac had I not special ordered quadra drive 2. The trims start with Laredo, then limited, overland, summit. The trailhawk is the off road package and automatically comes with quadra drive 2. You cannot get a trailhawk without quadra drive 2 but the trailhawk isn't as nicely equipped as an overland or summit. The whole wording system is a little confusing because there is quadra trac 1.... quadra trac 2... and then quadra drive 2. There is no quadra drive 1 so people get confused. You can only get quadra trac 1 on the base model grand cherokees as it doesn't have a transfer case. So most limited models and all overland/summits have quadra trac 2 at a minimum. This is easy to tell as you just look for the low range or 4x4 low button located near the gearshift. Overland/summit models will also automatically have the air lift suspension called quadra lift. Limited models vary depending on what options the person ordered they may or may not come with air suspension. If you find an overland you like ask for the build sheet and check to make sure it has quadra drive 2.

Quadra drive 2 is the more advanced system with the ability to transfer power not only from the front axles to the rear but also from left to right on either axle. This means that essentially the system can give any wheel any amount of power. It also has a ELSD (electronic limited slip differential) on the rear axle meaning both rear wheels turn in unison. It's one of the best systems on the market rivaling Audi.. .range rover...bmw... ect.

Mateo Esparza Your system is actually better than the new ones. In your year jeep used elsd's on both the front and rear axles. In 2011 jeep dropped the front elsd for a BTC (brake traction control) which senses when a wheel slips and applies the brakes to it. Many people were upset to see the change as many people (myself included) think the old system is better

jon douglas I was wondering why they dropped it. I have both and the 07 is a bit better in snow.. as for the annoying sound , just turn the traction control off

I've tried the dealership in here in Australia they are fucking useless she said its quadro lift I said I'm not talking about that I know it has quadro lift that is the manager for jeep here then she said is this for a vehicle of ours so basically didn't want to know Australia is fuucked when it comes to people and good old genuine help

Lol... it's not just Australia... I've had dealers here tell me that quadra trac is the better system... I've had dealers tell me there is no such thing as 4x2 grand cherokee (they are available in the US though rare)... I've had dealers tell me you cant get the summit trim with quadra drive 2 (which is what the jeep in the video is) so ya dealers dont tend to know alot.

Actually, that is a quadra trac II w/ a rear elsd. They stopped making quadra drive II in 2010.

Not quite.... they still make/sell quadra drive 2 which is what mine is. In 2010 jeep changed from using an ELSD (electronic limited slip differential) on both the FRONT and rear to just using one on the rear. Many people myself included were disappointed to see that change as having the ability to fully lock all 4 wheels had great advantages. After 2010 jeep started using a BTC ( brake traction controller) for the front diff which is common in other systems like land rover, toyota. Alot of people like me think the BTC is an inferior system because in order for it to work it applies the brakes to a spinning wheel in order to get power to transfer to the opposite wheel. This has obvious disadvantages if your right in the middle of a steep climb losing momentum (even for a moment) sucks. Jeep claims that with their quick responding software and new programming the BTC system is just as good but those of us in the 4x4/jeep world know better. So quadra trac 2 has no ELSD front or back, while quadra drive 2 has the locking rear diff and the front diff can lock under the right conditions...

jon douglas you are correct sir. I have a 04 with original qudradrive... I really do like the wk2.... but I don’t know about the new qd2 as this traction control system there using also limits wheel spin a lot... and there has been numerous times where engine rpms have gotten me out of some tricky situations. Plus the brake traction setup I would imagine is harder on brakes

@@jdouglas7516 Thanks for this info - that's really too bad 2011 and newer Grand Cherokees no longer have the option of a ELSD on the front. Any suggestions for alternatives? (either aftermarket solution for grand cherokee, or a different but similar vehicle entirely)

Pointless video! Then you freeze your girlfriend to show us you driving up a little ass hill with a quarter inch of snow! You could’ve showed the last 30 seconds on the locking diff and kept it pushing!

I guess my question about that would be why do they continue to have ELSD in the rear still? Why not change the rear out for BTC also if it's "superior" in Jeep's eyes?
