QST Wattmeter - Part 2 Installing and Checking AD8307

Ғылым және технология

In this video I install the AD8307 logarithmic amplifier. If you want to skip the Hot Air gun work go to approx 09:10.
The board I made is on github at
github.com/thaaraak/QST-Watt-...
I have an Eagle schematic and board and also a PDF of the board. Dont forget to print out mirrored.

Hi there! I’m interested in this project. Do you this could be used (ie accurate within +/- .5 db) the check the calibration of my used buy Marconi 2022E sig gen? Cause what I’m trying to achieve is get a reference to start with for checking various instruments like my sig gen, and a couple of rf millivolmeters. I’m also buying just now a fairly accurate new dmm. Thanks for sharing!

Perhaps - but it would be tough to calibrate without a separate wattmeter to validate. A cheap oscilloscope would be better IMO. One of those USB based ones perhaps. Terminate the sig gen output into 50 ohms and measure across the output

@@na5y hey thanks for the quick answer! I bought some used equipment and I realized that calibration is something interesting to do and all the metrology is also very interesting to me too. I can tell you measuring the output of the sig gen with a racal millivoltmeter (1MOhm input) has given me encouraging results. My thinking behind is that even if they are both used and because they “agree” enough( within .5db or so) it cant be just by chance, they must be close to be calibrated. Nonetheless i wish to revise those instruments to put them in the best shape possible. Hence looking for something as a reference. I thought about an oscilloscope too but i thought that wouldn’t be accurate enough. Let’s see cause I’ll have to buy one anyway. Im starting playing with electronics just now so it’s nice to get some advice from more experienced people. 73s!

You should not use a pencil to point on things on a pcb. graphene dust really may ruin your day !!!

Believe or not I have thought about my pencil pointer causing a short!
