QR codes to ease Johor Causeway jam

A QR Code Immigration Clearance System will soon be used at the Johor-Singapore border to help reduce congestion.
The Causeway- the world’s busiest land crossing- connecting Malaysia and Singapore in the south, sees around 400,000 travellers passing through the border checkpoints daily.
The system, once implemented in stages starting this June, is expected to cut immigration clearance time by half.
NST sources say that the QR code system will be put in place at both land checkpoints in Johor, namely the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar in Johor Baru and the Second Link Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar in Gelang Patah.
This will make Johor the first state in Malaysia to implement the system at its international checkpoints.
It follows in the footsteps of countries such as China, Canada, Brazil, the UK, Vietnam, Germany and Singapore which are already using the system.
