I would assume it to be cognate with Scandinavian hallå. I saw somewhere that hallå also has a cognate in Spanish hola through the Visigoths. Also Mr burns "Ahoy-hoy!" Is the greatest sound bite from the entirety of the Simpsons

The thing about dumping waste on the platform with trains is interesting, there's a story that train tracks tend to suffer maintenance issues because people pass tomato seeds through, and then they get dumped onto the tracks with a natural fertilizer to boot

I think; as much as I enjoy all the panelists who have their own niches, Rich Hall is one that I love the most. Humorous enough to always be able to be funny, but also capable of being interesting and serious. That and if you’re the inspiration for Moe Szyslac you must be doing something right

Our Oz Prime Minister was there recently and he also referred to it as Canadia - in Canada! This is understandable though, because he has a tiny brain ... I'm not sure that that is the case with our Stevie ... naughty Stephen ... stand in the corner!

What they missed talking about the age of consent in the Holy See is that it is also illegal to have sex unless you are legally married. I imagine it would be uncomfortable for them to declare the union of Mary and Joseph illegal to consummate in this age and hence would be VERY unlikely to change this law, as Mary is thought to have been 12 or 13 at the time of Jesus' birth. Notably though, ages of consent at 14 are associated with lower rates of teen pregnancy and sex than higher ages of consent, which really just seem to be turning people into criminals for no apparent reason. Lower ages of consent are almost universally accompanied by laws criminalising any form of sexual relationship with somebody whom you have any form of guardianship, power or supervisory role over, and by laws prohibiting the exploitation in any form of young people, which would seem to do a lot more to protect young people and in my opinion should be extended to at least 21, whatever age of consent is kept. It is well past time we stopped putting children and teenagers on the sex offender registry for consensual acts. I also cannot help but question the wisdom of 'jail bait' being legislated, why a person who is actively targeted (and even repeatedly, no matter ho strongly) for seduction by a person of biological 'sexual maturity' will receive lifelong criminal sanction, even regardless of whether they knew the other person was under age. I really dont know who this helps - clearly the young person would likely be (and generally is) utterly devastated by their actions effectively destroying the life of somebody they likely cared a great deal about. Legislating morality is in general a bad idea and always has unseen and terrible consequences. Clearly sexual involvement with pre-adolescent children is terribly harmful and something that they will not desire or understand yet and should be treated as the heinous and potentially lethal crime it is, but I think our attitude to adolescents is, like the drug war, doing a lot more harm than good.

I think that is a given. TO say there is no contemporary documentation seems erroneous as there are the letters of the his followers at least very soon after his death. Still no doubt they had an agenda.

Mijc Osis The earliest letters were written at least thirty years after his death. They were collected and edited, with spin, over the next three hundred years. They have been translated and edited ever since. Nobody really knows (except the christians of course, lol).

Part of it being that your country has to be recognised as a country for example the republic of north macedonia has been independent since 1991 but has only been a country (internationally recognised as one) since 2019. Is Wales a country? Is Scotland a country?
