    And we can neither confirm nor deny that in etymolygy that project's where "The Glomar Response" comes from! From Wikipedia: "The USNS Hughes Glomar Explorer was a large salvage vessel built by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for its covert "Project Azorian"-an attempted salvaging of a sunken Soviet submarine. "Glomar" is the syllabic abbreviation of Global Marine Development, the company commissioned by the CIA to build the Glomar Explorer. In February 1975, the CIA became aware of a story awaiting publication in the Los Angeles Times. Journalist Harriet Ann Phillippi requested that the CIA provide disclosure of both the Glomar project and its attempts to censor the story. In response, the CIA chose to "neither confirm nor deny" both the project's existence and its attempts to keep the story unpublished."

    I love this show but so many of the "facts" are absolute bullshit... They give this number of 100-400 million stars in the milky way at 27:10, which is WAY off, like, completely and indisputably wrong. The round number any random astronomer can give you is 100-400 BILLION. They were off by a factor of 1000. And actually, if you take recent discoveries into account it's potentially 2-3 times more with brown dwarf stars factored in. It's like, at least 4-5 times an episode I do a double-take and go, hey wait a minute, that is completely wrong! And yeah, what can you do. QI is fun to watch, but don't trust it as a source of facts.

  • @floveslondon

    @floveslondon

  • @Aethercell

    @Aethercell

    @@floveslondon No, I mean, they were extremely wrong when this episode first aired. We've known that the number of stars in the Milky Way is in the hundreds of billions since at least as early as the 1970's. I never want to be too hard on anyone for getting a fact wrong here or there, but this show presents itself as being smarter than you, and it's very often totally misleading. It's tough for me because I love the show, I love Sandi and most of the guests, it's very funny and I think it inspires people think deeper about stuff, but it's frustrating to me when they just fly really wide of the mark, because that's their whole concept. They've done the research, they know better. So when they don't, it makes me kind of sad, because I know people are just going to believe them on the basis of authority.

    I think it was a typo rather than a research error. They immediately say “That’s ten times fewer than the number of trees,” which they’d just a minute ago cited as 3 trillion-so clearly the script was written with the right number in mind, and then it got changed.

    These older shows really were better, before they went all woke and started putting female non-comedians in, in greater numbers to hit some magical quotient picked at random by some DEI HR Peron at the BBC Of course i have no objection to women being on the show, as long as they are funny, like Claudia was in this show But the more modern QIs where Alan is the only male among a coterie of Presenters from various cooking shows, news shows and antique shows or whatever, the show really is usually a bit of a let down That being said, maybe its improved recently, i gave up on "proper tv" in Jan 2020, just a month or two before lockdown I wont use the iPlayer so i got behind with QI shows, which is practically all i miss from pre 2020, but it was already going downhill by then, and the older repeats are definitely better Im sorry to say its not been the same since Stephen left, Sandi is actually a great replacement, and i dont think its her fault, but the guests have changed so much is what ruined it for me

    @@muddydog6605 I did not say or imply YOUR existence is not woke, or that all women are woke But i see you wanted to be offended over something that had nothing to do with you, okay then Unfunny women replacing funny men for the sake of Inclusion, Diversity and Equality is woke There have been many funny women on QI over the years Sue Perkins, Victoria Coran-Mitchell, Josie Lawrence, Sarah Millican, Sandi herself, Aisling Bea, Helen Atikinson-Wood, Emma Thompson, Nina Conti, Linda Smith, Shappi Khorsandi, Holly Walsh, Lisa Tarbuck, Katy Brand, Jo Brand, Zoe Lyons, Sarah Pascoe, and im sure at least 3 times this number all worthy of mention, but lists are BORING The problem is, is when you dont invite someone like Bill Bailey because Pru Leith was invited in hi place, and the show ends up with a flat spot, or a low laugh count And im sorry to pick on Pru here, its nothing personal to her, but she isnt a comedian, and shes one of the few non-comedians i know has been on QI To be honest, many of these women they have on, i have no idea who they are I have no problem with women, nor do i feel their _"presence literally anywhere"_ is woke (I know you didnt say "literally", its annoying when someone takes you out of context or exaggerates what you said isnt it?) What is woke is the ridiculous ideas by BBC management that one day decide - _"There have been far too many men on this show, lets get some women in here, i dont care if they are funny or not just get them in"_ And people stop watching because the show has become more boring and less funny So dont be that special snowflake, because you saw me having a go at women you assumed the role of hurt party, as if i was somehow having a go at ALL women When you said "as a woman" YOU are the one who generalised as if somehow all women are the same Instead of trying to understand my point you basically assumed i was some sort of misogynist My problem is with "woke" not with "women" More specifically its companies who think they MUST be woke, and its not because they care, theyre trying to corner a market and turn more profits When anyone takes the job, or place of someone more competent or qualified just because someone says _"We need to hire a person of differing gender or ethnicity, we have too many of type A we need some type B"_ I dont know about you but when im rushed to hospital with a heart attack, i want a good heart surgeon there, i dont care what race or gender they are, i just want "highly skilled" over "barely qualified" Its literally the same with every other job, including the entertainment industry Theres a world famous Airline now ignoring highly qualified white male pilots because of "diversity quotas" How comfortable are you going to be on a plane flown by the 99th best qualified applicant, just because they werent a white man, 98 better pilots didnt get the job Because this is the world ee are getting by choosing diversity over skill A potentially dangerous one And before you assume it, i dont have a problem with race or LGB either, i have an issue with TQ+ because i think they are mentally unwell, and should be helped not encouraged in their delusion I WISH we lived in a world where people didnt have to feel they werent getting hired because of Race, Gender or something else But, I want my comedians funny, my heart surgeon capable and my pilot to be skilled Beyond that i dont care what race or gender anybody is
