Curious: Japan, being a right-hand-drive country and their trains are left-hand-drive. Not that it matters, though. Personally: i'd like to purchase those gloves.

This from Wikipedia: Pointing and calling is a method in occupational safety for avoiding mistakes by pointing at important indicators and calling out the status. It is common in Japan and is sometimes referred to by its Japanese terms, shisa kanko (指差喚呼), shisa kakunin kanko (指差確認喚呼) or yubisashi koshō (指差呼称). Making large gestures and speaking out the status helps keeping focus and attention. The method was first used by train drivers and is now commonly used in Japanese industry. It is not common in other countries, though it is used in the New York City Subway system. It is recommended by the Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association (JISHA, 中央労働災害防止協会).

JR East should consider taking this train to service soon. It squeaks a lot. It could also use a change of windscreen wipers, use Rain-X on the windscreen, and consider the use of HID headlights. I like the 'point and execute' system the conductors use to keep their motions and operations 'in-check'. But, what they really need to change (in my opinion) is the 'robot-like' announcements. They sound so mechanical and alien. On the plus side: i like the use of pocket watches by the conductors and, the most pleasant surprise: a lady conductor. If the translation is wrong, please understand that I used Google Translate.

Anibal The robot like announcements don’t sound robotic if you actually speak Japanese. Altering the tone will take a lot away from The professionalism. You made good points, but I disagree with the announcements.

Well, this model train being used (the 251 Series) may be retired in the next few years. JR East plans to put the E257 Series train set (now running the _Azusa_ service between Shinjuku Station in Tokyo and (mostly) Matsumoto) on the _Odoriko_ service in addition the new E261 Series train sets that will replace the 251 Series.
