IR genius with bass was apparent even in his very early songs - devan thiruchabai malargale.... wow I was speechless when I heard the song first in mid 80s (even though it came out in 70s)... Outstanding.

Kudos to the team. Pls do more episodes like this to bring out more of Raja sir's instrumental magics. The genius will standout for ages. I was expecting 'Puthiya poovidhu' from Thendrale ennai thodu where he extensively used bass guitar...how could you miss that...? 😢...probably the first song to impress me with his magical bass influence wayback

This is one of the finest shows on QFR. As a singer, guitarist and organiser of many concerts I have had the experience of witnessing many world class musicians at practice and on stage. Have also shared the stage with Bassist Sasi Sir. Maestro's bass lines are a study by itself. Playing it is like doing a PhD. Sasi Sir's playing stands out because of the feel, the emotions created by the tones, sustain and modulations. Reading a speech is simple. Reciting a poetry with emotions is excellence. That is Bass playing by Sasi Sir and Viji Sir. Thank you QFR Team 🙏🙏

A song on which the Bass Guitar has been played very nicely is "Oru Iniya Manadhu"from the 1980 film "Jhonny". Since the actual recording of this song from the film was probably done sometime in late 1979 it is very likely that late "Viji Manuel" Sir had played on this recording. Appreciate some confirmation on this matter

Great playing mani sir. IRs high octave bass lines from the 70s and 80s are so unique to his comps ; to my limited knowledge I haven’t seen that style of bass used in any genre of music. I wonder why he changed his bass style in the 90s and later. Nevertheless his songs are a lifetime of lessons for any aspiring bassist.

Only music aficionados or musicians had the interest to understand & appreciate it. Good that this episode details the layering and intricacies of Raaja’s composition and orchestration
