Pythons are large constrictors and became very popular reptiles in the US pet trade during the late eighties but the mass importation has led to serious ecological problem in South Florida. The small python hatchlings out grow fast their initial setup cage and reaching eight foot in length within three years. Many pet owners no longer wish to care for their snake(s) and some people even decided to release their pythons back into the wild. During Hurricane Andrew, a mass escape of reptiles, including thousands of burmese pythons, from their exotic importers took place in 1992.
Many pythons escaped into the swamps of the Everglades with its perfect subtropical climate and vast food sources. These snakes began to thrive, resulting in a permanent breeding population of Burmese Pythons in South Florida. But also the African Rock Python has established a breeding population in Florida and many other species of pythons, such as the Reticulated Python can be found occasionally. Pythons spend the majority of their time hidden in the underbrush. They are nocturnal, ambush predators, feeding meanly on mammals, birds and other reptiles, including alligators and crocodiles. It has been observed that these constrictors turn into opportunistic feeders as well and do not hesitate to devour road kill or other dead animals they come across. In fact, some pythons have learned that road are not just a place to warm their body during the night but a perfect location for catching an easy meal.
A hungry adult python stalks its prey with fast forward movements, its head slightly elevated and tongue flickering, picking up the sent particles of possible prey near by. When a possible prey animal is detected the attack is swift with a strike and a bite to the neck, coiling around the prey’s body, tighter and tighter until it eventually dies of asphyxiation. The python starts mostly feeding on the dead animal head first mostly but it has been observed that very often pythons will swallow their prey alive. The feeding can take up to an hour depending on the size of the prey. Python eats goat was filmed by Heiko Kiera aka Ojatro in South Florida in 2015.

Every creature has its own importance in this world to maintain ecosystem.....
I record my two snakes eating inside their terrarium. One time I had an outside terrarium in a greenhouse and there was one or two flies outside buzzing around. Somebody had to leave a comment on my feeding video that there was a fly making noise taking away from the snake eating its prey. If only they had seen this one! Lol great footage! Quite a mouthful!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video! Time wise I would bet you spent many days, hours and several pints of blood to several species of blood suckers that is in that area! One question? The rattlesnakes at the end were not the one that ate the little gator? I do have to say that one rattlesnake at the end was one big dude! If you were to have gotten bitten by it, you probably would have taken ten steps and fell over dead! Did you see any of the rattlesnakes bite any of the gators before they were caught and ate? I hope you will continue to make these videos. I love to sit with the grandkids and watch them. May Almighty GOD watch over you and all who go with you on these video trips and keep you all safe from any bites or injuries! May Almighty GOD uplift you everyday and bless you greatly!

Python’s next question: What’s for desert?
Can someone please tell me how long it takes for this or any snake to completely digest its prey or does it depend on the size of its prey? Oh,and how long does it go between its meals? I agree with everyone else’s comments-,those flies are indeed very annoying.

Pythons (snakes in general) have strong digestive juices, able to brake down and fully digest such large prey within one week if the weather remains warm enough. Most snakes will retreat to for a week or two before hunting again. Younger pythons need more energy to grow fast and therefore they will feed more frequently, depending on the availability of prey. Snakes can survive without food for many months...

It is so simple to understand the bigger what the snake swallows , the longer it takes for complete digestion . And, since their cold- blooded the impact of the the environmental temperature affects many of vital functions including food digestion.

I would've lost my appetite after seeing all of the flies congregating on the Goat. But I guess the Python didn't care about all of that. Lol.

Pythons have highly digestive juices that will brake down bones, horns, hoofs and even teeth of its prey within a week...
