    I think she put it down as it is the short o sound....not the spelling, but the sound....in the inquiry process you write down all things students say....

    I'm a kindergarten teacher teaching ESL abroad. Given what I understand of children, especially in the k1tok2 age group, their attention span and ability to think this critically is not as high as the children in this video show. I'm quite confused how such a boring model of how to understand spelling in phonics is conducive to their learning. Openly brainstorming words that they don't really know how to spell to begin with. Once they start reaching the K3 level, you start to see them retain some spellings of words. I noticed in your video you asked a question to elicit answers, however, the video would cut, and then take an answer from a student. To me it seems like a long period of time passed before any student was able to produce an answer. This waste of time loses attention and their interest. I know that in my classroom, these sit down and ask open ended questions lead to super drawn out and boring lessons. Where is your transdisciplinary approach? Inquiry is one thing, but you should make it more interesting by incorporating some other discipline so that the kids aren't just sitting and waiting for some random kid to say something. Maybe there is some element of your class that is not present in this video, like some previous word study or reading comprehension classes that equip them with a robust enough reading vocabulary that they can effectively take part in this type of inquiry based lesson you're giving in this video. But as it is, displayed in your video, I can't see a very inclusive and holistic learning approach. It seems like you might just be heavily leaning on some kids with enough courage and knowledge to carry the conversations. I've seen it many times before where the most knowledgeable kids blurt out all the answers first.

    I think because the cameramen were there and the students were probably put under a bit more pressure to sit nicely and participate fully, as well as having the camera angles barely put into frame children so as to not give us the full context of their engagement just makes it seem more like this implementation of inquiry based learning and allowing students to take control over their agency while learning may not be as effective as this video is letting on.
